ThanX for putting up with me! Abductions of the Heart xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Dulles International Airport Wednesday, May 5, 1999 6:25pm xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Scully walked slowly from the terminal gate. She dreaded this final step of her adventure in Vegas with the Lone Gunmen. The mere thought of trying to hail a cab in rush hour made her wince. Walking with her head down from sheer exhaustion, Scully ran square into the solid wall of a mans chest. "Oh--I'm so sorry, I've really got to look where I'm . . ." she looked up, "Mulder?" "You still sorry Scully?" He asked with his famous grin as he picked up her travel case. "What are you doing here?" She asked clearly surprised "You want me to leave?" He asked, still smiling. "No--you'd better not even think about it," returning his smile. "Especially after what those "friends" of yours put me through." "Yeah, I'm sorry about that Scully. Me and the guys are gonna have to have a little talk." He rifled through the outer pocket of her case and found her ticket envelope. "Let's go get your bags." XxXxXXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXx Helping Scully into the passenger side, Mulder ran around and planted himself behind the wheel. "Where to lady?" he asked in a terrible impression of what she assumed was supposed to be a NY city cab driver. Scully looked directly into Mulder's eyes and smiled softly. She leaned forward and their lips met in a gentle--familiar kiss. "Thank you so much Mulder. I didn't feel up to doing the cab routine." "Hey, it's no problem Scully, I was just kinda waiting around for the three stooges plane. Like I said, we gotta talk." "Mulder, don't be angry with them. They really did need my help, I just wish they would've been straight with me." "Tell me something Scully. Would you have gone to Vegas if you'd known it was them asking for help that night and not me?" She went blank for a second, then with a halfsmile replied, "Probably not." Mulder chuckled his understanding. "So--Scully--you feel like disappearing for a few days?" He asked with that mischievous look. "Mulder--there is no one else in this whole world I would rather "disappear" with, but I'm just so exhausted. My head is pounding. That drug and or antidote I was given left me with one hellofa hangover. I do want a raincheck though," she smiled sympathetically. "Anytime--you know the code," he said pulling out of the busy parking garage. "The code you were referring to Mulder, is it 911?" She giggled. "Not yet--but you keep standing me up like this . . .," he grinned ear to ear. "Next time--I promise Mulder." "Pinky swear Scully?" "Sure--pinky swear." The rest of the drive to Georgetown, Scully explained in detail the events of the past few days with the Gunmen. Mulder was happy Scully was able to help them, but he was also a little pissed at Byers for putting Scully's life on the line. Why not them, he inwardly cursed himself. I do it all the time. He slowly pulled up to the door to her building. "Want to come in for a nightcap Mulder?" "No--you need some sleep, besides alcohol and temptation don't go together," he smiled then cradled her face in his hands as he kissed her tenderly. "Night partner." "Night Mulder, see you in the morning." He watched her go in and then drove off for home. XxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx J. Edgar Hoover Office Building FBI Headquarters xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Scully was running late all morning, having forgotten to set her alarm. When Mulder dropped her off the night before, she changed into PJ's, had a glass of milk and was out the minute her head hit the pillow. Missing her alarm was not usually a problem, as Scully was up before it went off. Not today, however. The bell rang as the elevator doors opened in the basement, Scully expected Mulder to be standing ready to give her a hard time. She grasped the doorknob to their office--still locked. I must not be the only one having a rough morning she thought to herself. At least she was off the hook and could turn the tables on Mulder. Scully quickly made coffee and spread out her work to make it look like she had been there the forty-five minutes she'd missed. Three hours passed and Scully who had anticipated Mulder's late arrival now wondered if he would make it at all. "Where is he?" she found herself saying aloud. She tried his home and cell numbers hours ago, both with no answer. Not wanting to get Skinner on his case for being late, she saved her call to him as a last resort. Scully thought back to the previous night's conversation and the "disappearing" topic. She quickly dismissed the idea that he would "disappear" without her. This was just not like him, not that he didn't still ditch her occasionally. At least lately, he didn't keep her worrying and would call her as soon as he could. Scully was getting very worried as this fifth hour Mulder free, was now upon her. As she reached for the phone to covertly see if Skinner knew where he was, it rang. "Mulder?----where are you?" XxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXx "Agent Scully?" "Oh--Sir I'm sorry. I was just picking up the phone to call you. Did you . . . is Mulder on some assignment? "Scully, I need to see you in my office ASAP." "I'll be right there Sir." Great! she thought to herself, now my ass is in the wringer for covering for him. Wait till I get my hands on Mulder. Minutes later Scully appeared in the office of Assistant Director Walter Skinner. "Agent Scully--please come in, have a seat." He didn't or couldn't look her in the eye. "Sir--something's wrong isn't it, have you seen or heard from Mulder? I'm getting a little worried." "Actually Scully--Mulder is the reason I called you in . . . " "Sir--I'm sorry I covered for him, but he wouldn't do this without good reason or unless something were wrong . . . " "Your instinct to worry was right Agent--we have information as to Agent Mulder's abduction." "Excuse me Sir?" she was shocked. "What information? Abduction?" "We have witnesses to an event wherein several well known UFO enthusiasts, Mulder included, were----how shall I put this? Taken." "By who?----When? Oh My God!" she panicked. "The witnesses say it was a craft similar in description to those Mulder and yourself have seen. They said the abductees were "floated up to the ship and then it just took off" word for word Agent Scully." "I need to talk with these witnesses Sir. I'll lead the investigation. Just give me a team and we'll find him. We've got to find him." "No--Scully. You're too close to this. I'm sorry. The case has been assigned." Again he gave her no eye contact. Scully blinked back the tears she tried to hide. This was all almost too much for her. Just remembering her own abduction made her shudder and now they had gotten to Mulder, her best friend, partner and so much more than anyone knew. "Need I remind you Sir, that just recently we saved your ass! I have to be involved in this----you can't cut me out! HE'S MY PARTNER!!!! I've been where he is now! I . . . " "Agent Scully! I realize you are very distraught and therefore I will ignore your insubordination. However, as I've said--this case has been assigned and every effort is being made to find Agent Mulder as well as the other missing persons." Skinner walked around his desk and put his hand on Scully's shoulder. "I'm sorry," he almost whispered. "I really feel that being in your state of mind, you would only hinder this investigation. I do care, Agent Scully. I've assigned our best agents to this case." "I know--Sir," not being able to hold back the tears any longer. "I'm sorry for what I said--you've helped us countless times--I just . . . " Skinner hugged her. "He'll be OK. You know better than anyone, Mulder has nine lives." "I just hope he hasn't used the last of them up," she stated as she pulled back from his fatherly embrace. "Can I drive you home?" he asked concerned. "No, I'm fine," she whispered. "I'm OK Sir--really." She walked to the door and looked back once more. "Please find him----" her eyes pleaded and were filled with tears once again. "We will," she heard as she shut the door behind her. XxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXx Scully felt like she was in another dimension as she drove. She couldn't just stand by and do nothing. Changing lanes without looking and cutting off the car in the next lane, she quickly turned right. In a daze and not quite knowing how she arrived in one piece, she found herself parked outside the Lone Gunmen's mobile headquarters. She pounded on the door. "Come on guys, open up!" She heard Frohicke's voice through the door. "Is Mulder with you? We don't want any!" "Dammit!----open the door Frohicke!" her voice cracked. "NOW" "What's wrong?" He ushered her in placing his hand on her shaking arm. "Mulder's gone," she cried. "They took him----" "Who?" "The same people--the ones who took me, those responsible for everything," she sobbed as she sat where Frohicke lead her. Scully looked up and saw Byers crouched down at her side, only sympathy in his eyes as his hand soothed her back. "The FBI won't let me in on the case." She wiped her nose on her sleeve. "They say I'm too close to be of any help." She was telling Byers and Frohicke the rest of what she knew when Langly walked in. "Who died?" He meant it as a joke, not knowing the reaction it would cause. Scully burst out in a fresh wave of tears. "Jesus--Woodstock! Could you be anymore insensitive?" Frohicke barked. "Sorry--what's up?" He realized the size of the foot in his mouth as Scully regained her composure and started into the details again. "I'll hack into the FBI mainframe and pull up the file and see what they're thinking." He went to his PC terminal hoping to make up for his big mouth. "Thanks Langly----all of you," the tears started again. "I know how close you two are," Frohicke stated, "but you gotta be strong for him now, or you really won't be any good to him." "Maybe she just needs some rest?" Byers added. Frohicke nodded. "Why don't you just stay here for a while and get some rest. We'll start digging." Catching him completely off guard, Scully stood, grabbed Frohicke and hugged him crying softly into his chest. "You have no idea how close Mulder and I are," she sniffed. "We're married----have been for three years." Breaking the awkward silence, Frohicke announced, "Boy--did we miss that one!" "And we're trained to sniff out secrets like that," Langly shouted to the others from his terminal. They all smiled to lighten the mood as Frohicke let Scully to Byers' room. It was the cleanest. He helped her onto the bed, took off her shoes, and turned off the light and glanced once more at her quivering form as her shut the door. He'd never seen such a strong woman crack under pressure like had. She must really love that punk-ass. "I sure hope we find him, or he turns up soon. I have to tell him what a lucky man he is." XxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXx Scully woke the next morning having not idea where she was at first. Then she remembered the whole situation. Waves of emotion intermingled with nausea washed over her. Determined to find the strength she had always taken pride in, Scully walked to the mirror to see if there was any hop for her puffy face. When she looked, she wished she hadn't. Her eyes were swollen and red with dark circles. All of her makeup was gone in a days worth of saline wash. Freckles popped up through red blotches on her small nose, and her clothes, well, she had just slept in them. "OK--I'm a mess," she said aloud realizing there was nothing to be done. As she walked out of the room, all three Gunmen looked at her, yet this is all the acknowledgment she received. They were deeply involved with their computers. Still wearing the same clothes they wore the night before, Scully summized they hadn't been to bed and were working all night. "Thank you guys for all your hard work to help him----us. I owe you all so much." She felt tears threatening again but choked them back. She would be strong--for Mulder. "We're the ones that owe you Agent Scully," Byers spoke softly, not taking his eyes from the screen, "both of you." Scully walked up behind Byers at his terminal. "I'd ask if I could help but . . . this," she said waving her hand toward the foreign mass of microchips in front of her, "I wouldn't know where to start?" Frohicke silently came up behind her as she spoke her feelings of uselessness. He leaned in past her and spoke to Byers in some sort of hacker jargon, on her best day she couldn't have understood. "Good news Agent Scully," Byers spoke. "Well, as good as it can be in these circumstances," Langly corrected as he walked up. "Have you found him!?" Scully's eyes brightened. "Where is he?" "No Scully, we haven't found him--yet, and we aren't quite sure who took him," Byers said regretfully. "We did however, find records, medical test results for Mulder and the other abductees," Frohicke added. "The records were in military files I hacked from the pentagon," Langly said proudly. "And the tests were performed there according to the log entries----so we know at least he must be close by." "And alive," Byers added. "That's where you come in Scully--we're not that good with this medical lingo," Langly gestured to his terminal screen. "They look like the findings in a typical abductee case file, complete with implants. Nothing-unusual, nothing we haven't seen before . . . except! This! This DNA mapping . . . My God!" "What?" The Gunmen almost said in unison. "I've seen these results only once before . . . it can't be?" Scully whispered, a look of wonder on her face. XxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXx On her way home, new hope in her heart, Scully decided to poke around Mulder's apartment and see what she could find. She only hoped Skinner's team was finished. If he knew she was there investigating on her own---well, he wouldn't be happy. Standing outside Mulder's apartment building, Scully couldn't help but feel like a stalker. She decided the investigation of apartment 42 must have been wrapped up--no one was around. She took her chance to go up hoping to find some clue they might have missed. Scully stood at his door wishing all this was a bad dream and that somehow she could just knock and Mulder would be there. She thought about how careful they had been maintaining their professional relationship at work, yet it was so hard keeping the secret when in each other's apartments. They knew their personal lives were surveilled even in their own homes. This was the reason for their short, unnoticed disappearances on the occasional weekend. If only she had disappeared with him when he'd asked, none of this would've happened. Tears clouded her eyes as she unlocked the door. Walking around his apartment, Scully was disgusted with the mess left behind by the FBI. Mulder was never neat or even very sanitary, but this was beyond belief. Just then she heard a noise come from the bedroom. Scully grabbed her purse and pulled her weapon. As she proceeded with extreme caution, a hand and then an arm reached out and grabbed her from behind. Scully was able to manage a stifled scream before a hand found it's way to her mouth. "Shhhh-----Scully it's me!" she heard the familiar voice in her ear. She quickly relaxed and spun around in his arms. "Mulder! Shit--you scared me to death!" Scully grabbed him in a firm embrace, as she silently vowed never to let him go again. On tiptoes, she initiated a deep kiss that took their breath away--both of them. XxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXx "Mulder? Are you OK? Where were you? They said you were "taken"? Why are you here alone--in the dark? Why didn't you call . . . " "I'm fine Scully---I missed you too!" he smiled as his hazel eyes sparkled in the dark. Thump . . . "Mulder?" Scully whispered. "Am I hearing things, or did that sound come from your bedroom? "It's nothing . . . don't worry Scully." "Don't worry! Mulder--is someone in there?" "I guess you could say "someone"?" he scratched his head, "I'll just let you see it first, then I'll do the explaining." "IT?" "Let's put it this way Scully, we're gonna have a lot to talk about tonight, hope you're not tired." He grabbed her hand and led her to the bedroom. It was dark as he opened the door. "Wait till you see it Scully," he absolutely looked like a little boy. "Light bothers him---don't make any sudden moves." Scully looked at Mulder skeptically, perhaps for the last time as she saw movement in the shaded room. "Come on Scully, he won't hurt you," Mulder whispered. Then she saw it. First long fingers--a thin frail hand--a hairless grey head with dark, almond shaped eyes. Her look was more than astonishment or amazement, yet it was not quite fear either. "OH--MY--GOD-----MULDER!" she managed to squeak out. "It's a "Grey" Scully. They abducted me, and I abducted him." Mulder seemed very pleased with himself and also that Scully had finally--without question--seen irrefutable evidence. "He can hear your thoughts Scully and you can hear his. Telepathy . . . " "I-hear-him." She hadn't moved and looked like a dear frozen in the headlights. Mulder put his arm around her as he drew her forward to get a better look. "He won't hurt you," he said as his fingers touched her chin and allowed her eyes to find his. "I know Mulder--he just told me. He said no more pain would come to me or those like me. We have nothing to fear from him or his kind.?" "They told me that too, and so much more." Mulder and Scully faced each other as their foreheads met. His hands were on her shoulders and hers went around his waist. Scully smiled softly. "We really do have a lot to talk about----don't we Mulder?" He gave her smile back and kissed his wife without caring who or what saw them. They were together again. Their fates were entwined as their lives had been for so long. "I love you Scully." His eyes glimmered with unshed tears that spoke the truth even if the words were never said. "You've abducted my heart. It's yours and always will be." XxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXx Scully cried openly, resting her damp cheek against Mulder's chest. "Tears Scully?" he teased as he smiled in her red tresses. "I love you too----so much. I thought I'd never see you again Mulder," she suddenly pulled out of his embrace, took a step back and eyed him suspiciously. "It is you--isn't it?" Laughing, he grabbed her and hugged her to him. "Yeah Scully, it's really me." "I made a real idiot of myself these past couple days Mulder. I've got everyone looking for you." "Our three friends too?" "I don't know what I would have done without them. They were really there for me. I was an emotional wreck . . . " she cringed. "Oh dammit Mulder! I just remembered----I told them." "What?" he asked. "The Gunmen know about us--our secret! I'm so sorry Mulder. I betrayed our promise. How could I be so . . . " He hugged her even tighter. "After I tell you what I've learned, you won't care who knows we're in love. We don't have to worry anymore Scully. Everything is about to change--forever." The End?---for now . . . Please------send feedback! I'm begging here! Lemme know if I should go on with this, or if I should just give it up. ThanX! Kerz1013@aol.com
