TITLE: No One But You AUTHOR: DenyTheTruth (aka Kelleigh Decker) EMAIL ADDRESS: kelleigh@glasscity.net ARCHIEVE: Gossamer: Yes. If anyone else thinks it's good enough for other achieves go ahead and put it there. Just keep my name on it and let me know. SPOILER WARNING: Numerous from Season 1 to Season 6 "Triangle" RATING: NC-17 (in a few parts) mostly PG-13 CONTENT WARNING: CLASSIFICATION: S; A (Mulder and Scully), MSR (straight love story, if I could write a real X-File I'd send it 1013 and try to turn it into an episode) SUMMARY: Mulder and Scully know they love each other. Now how do they overcome their doubts and the obstacles in their lives to be together? DISCLAIMER: If I really owned them I wouldn't be a junior in college. I'd be in LA relaxing and Mulder and Scully would have CSM tied up and hidden with Jimmy Hoffa. Mulder and Scully and everyone from the X-Files are the intellectual property of Chris Carter and also the property of FOX, 1013, and the fabulous actors that portray them each week. I'm just borrowing them for a time to appease my own imagination and will return them back to the genius that is CC. So please don't sue me, all you'll get is my student loans (but if you want those you can have them) and my slow as molasses computer. FEEDBACK: Would be greatly appreciated. Let me know if I should stick to just reading everyone elses' work and sending feedback to them or if it is ok for me to continue showing my thanks by contributing to fanfic. The songs "Wasn't it Good" and "Show Me Heaven" are from Tina Arena's album "Don't Ask" and are also borrowed without permission from Sony music. I would also like to thank all those fanfic writers out there who have kept me entertained and inspired me to write my own. I only hope that this does some justice to all your guys' genius and I do apologize if some part resembles another story. There have been so many I have read that they are all just jumbled in my brain. Please keep in mind that I am writing this story with the following thoughts in mind: Mulder was born in 1961, Scully was born in 1964. They have been partners since March 1992. Scully was abducted in October of 1994. Nothing after "Triangle" from Season 6 has happened and the story takes place in December 1998. Also, in this story Mulder and Scully have the X-Files back (can't wait till that really happens) No One But You 1/13 By DenyTheTruth kelleigh@glasscity.net ------------------------- Personal Journal of Dana Katherine Scully Saturday, December 20th Sometimes I really don't get people today. I mean, is it such a far off concept that a man and a woman can be friends and not have sex? God that sounds like that movie When Harry Met Sally. Is it such a foreign concept that we don't need to have sex to show that we love each other? Yes that is right, love. It isn't anything earth shattering or mind boggling that I admit that I love Mulder, and I know that he loves me. We may not have told each other or made great declarations of it (but there was that time in his hallway and when he awoke full of drugs from his little jaunt to the Bermuda Triangle). Anyway, we both know that we have deep feelings for the other, but there is so much that we have to do. The X-Files hold the answers to all the questions we have: What really happened to Sam, how many others have experienced the same thing Mulder did at Ellens Air Force Base, how long has the plan for this game with Mulder as a key player been planned, how many other projects are our there, etc. We know that the X-Files and all that they contain is the place to find the answers and the truth. We also know that there isn't anyone else that we want to look for them except him and me. Our trust and strength is what gets us through and helps us continue with the search. So, why would we want to ruin what works? That is what people can't understand. Mulder and I are happy with the way things are. We can call the other one anytime whether to discuss a case, a nightmare, or just to pass the time. If we were to cross that line (as everyone believes we already have) things would change. And I believe in the philosophy "If it ain't broken don't try to fix it". Don't get me wrong, of course I have thought about Mulder and me becoming lovers. I mean, who wouldn't? He does have a great body, but I don't want it. Now before someone comes around to take me off to the loony bin for not wanting to sleep with Mulder, let me just say this: It isn't that I wouldn't want a physical relationship with him, I just don't want what comes along with it to diminish our working relationship. As Mulder's partner for the past almost seven years I have seen and learned many things, but the biggest one that I have learned is his obsession. When Mulder finds something that he wants, he latches onto it like a dying man does his last breath of air. I love that about him, his dedication. I have already been on the receiving end of that dedication many times before and he has received mine, but we both just know that if we were to ever further our relationship things would change. Our dedication would get refocused on each other personally and privately and not on our work. Right now that is what is important. I refuse to let "Them" win and if that means that Mulder and I have to keep things the way they are, so be it. So that is how it goes. Mulder and me working together to find the truth and hopefully when we do, then we can focus our energy on each other. Until then we will just do what we have done and relieve stress in our own ways. If that means that once in a while one of us seeks the comfort of another, oh well. Man can not live by water alone. Now, I know most people will think, "How can you say you love him and then say that you don't have any troubles when he goes out with another?" There is a simple answer to that question: I didn't say that. I love him and if given the chance I would probably jump his bones right there in the office, but I don't because I don't want the physical to ruin what we have emotionally and spiritually. Believe me, if there was a way for me and Mulder to be together and still work like we do, I would do it. But there isn't and it is wrong for me to assume that he will just live on somedays. Mulder has had one of the world's worst childhoods. He was a genius and didn't have many friends, lost his sister (the only person who really knew and loved him), and lost the love and trust of his family. Mulder is a fabulous man with a great mind, but a heart that has been ruined by lies and deceit. I swear if I ever come across Phoebe Green again they won't be able to identify her with dental records. Mulder deserves to find love. Even though I love him and he knows it, that isn't enough. For him to start healing, he needs to also know love physically. Someone has to tell and show him that he is great and worthy of happiness if he is to ever get his battered ego and heart back to peace. I wish that I could be the one to do it, but our work is too important for us to complicate it with a deeper relationship. Or at least that's what I thought until last night. Personal Journal of Fox William Mulder Saturday, December 20th All right that is it, I just do not understand society and people at all what so ever. I have a degree in psychology from Oxford and I still draw a blank in regards to people's perceptions of men and women. Yes, I know that it is common sense that men are attracted to beautiful women, but they don't have to act on it all the time. People who think like that are wasting up good oxygen. I mean, is it such a "spooky" idea for a man and woman to spend a lot of time together and not have sex? Apparently so seeing that all I hear is how Scully and me have to be doing it. I swear if I hear that there is one more office pool about when we are going to finally admit that we have been together I am going to take whoever is in charge of that pool and turn them into an X-File. (One that I will conveniently forget about for a few years) People act like all there is to men and women is sex, if that was true than me and Frohike should be very content with our videos and celebrity skin. But that isn't it. Don't people realize that there is more than just the physical out there? There is love, compassion, and trust. Those are the things that really matter, not sex (although it's a good thing to have also). So why can't people just get on with their lives and leave Scully's and mine alone? You know if this is what people think about me when they have no idea what I think or feel, I would hate to know what their minds would come up with if they knew that I admit that I am in love with Scully. Yeah shocking isn't it?? Although I don't know why, I mean I do believe that the truth is out there. Well, my love for Scully is one of the best truths that I know of. It is almost up there with the truth of knowing that she loves me back just as much. Yeah who would have guessed it, the FBI's most unwanted, old "Spooky" Mulder was able to fall in love with someone and by some miracle that person feel in love with him also. Wonders never cease. Although whenever Scully is concerned it is a wonder. That little (never call her that to her face or you'll find yourself with a new one) fireball can pack a punch and knows how to throw me for a loop or turn me on my ass. And I love her for it. Her determination and dedication, that is what has gotten me through all these years. Like I told her in my hallway, she makes me a whole person. I guess that is why I'm here right now venting out my frustrations. I know that what Scully and I have is special and that it runs deep, but apparently others can't seem to see that. Sure they believe they see how much we mean to each other, but they can't even get past the first layer of what is Scully and I. That's why they can't understand that despite the fact that we love each other, we can't be together that way. (But we came close before that bee decided to make its presence known) Scully and I have so much work to do. We have only seen a fraction of the truth and we won't rest until we have it all and it is out in the open. "They" are going to lose this game and we are going to continue to play, even if it reaches sudden death. The X-Files hold the key to our questions and is where we need to be. I don't want anyone else near them except myself and Scully. We know each other, there is no one else we trust more, we know the X-Files, and we have been in this game long enough to the rules. Rule #1: Apart Mulder and Scully are no match, but together they are a deadly combination. You must do what ever you need to make sure they aren't together. Rule #2: Mulder and Scully can't be torn apart. (Flukemen, liver eating mutants, three-month abductions, cancer, alien implantation, etc.) Nothing has worked so far and nothing will. And finally Rule #3: Crossing the line will get in the way. Now, I am not going to sit here and say that I have never thought about that line that lies between me and Scully and thought about just running past it and into her part of the playing field. I have thought of it, frequently the truth be told. But we both know that we can never take that final step while there is so much to do. We work best together and if we were to change things there would be no way that they would let us continue to work together. And for both of us the truth is what matters. Like what all did they do to Scully while she was gone, what exactly was Emily and are there anymore of her out there, what really was Scully's cancer and what did that chip really do, etc. We have a lot of work ahead of us and know what we have to do to get it done. If that means that we have to keep things the way they are, so be it. But believe me, if there were a way around it I would be the first one taking it. Scully is such a wonderful person and woman. Not only is she the best agent that I have ever worked with, but she is the most beautiful, caring, and loving person I know. Which is just another reason why we can't change things. For all the talk to the evolution of males, the FBI is still a "boy's club" and Scully is a threat to them. Her strength and intelligence scares men shitless. (There has been many a time where I have been speechless while she works) She doesn't need the rumors and comments about sleeping with her "boss" (although she is my equal if not my superior at times) added to the rest of the crap that is thrown her way. I just wish that she could find someone who wasn't afraid of her. Beneath that tough, no non-sense, take care of business attitude, there is the most beautiful creature that God ever put on this planet. I hope that one day some guy finally wakes up enough to realize that she is a true marvel and grabs her before she can get away. Scully deserves happiness and peace, seeing that she gets is the exact opposite at work. I wish that I could be the one to give it to her, but right now there are more important things that we have to do that take precedence over hormones. Or at least that's what I thought until last night. Federal Bureau of Investigation Conference Hall Holiday Dinner Friday, December 19th 7:00 p.m. Mulder was bored out of his mind. Here he was once again at another mind numbing FBI function or as he liked to call them "butt kissing sessions". Unfortunately, this year he had to come and make the token appraisal to his superiors. After being put in a psychiatric hospital, having your office burned to the ground and then repaired, trekking across Antarctica, his other run of the mill escapades during his cases, and the fact that he and Scully had just got the X-Files back from Spender and Fowley, Mulder knew that he had to put a good foot forward. For both his and Scully's sakes. 'Where is she anyway?' he thought, as he looked at his watch for the fifth time within the last half an hour. If he had to go through this long night in an uncomfortable tuxedo, at least he could have her as company, but she wasn't there. She had told Mulder while he was leaving that she was going to wait for some test results to come from the lab before she left to get ready, so she might be late. She was now over an hour late and Mulder was ready to shoot himself in his foot to get out of there. Luckily he was saved from having to inflict that particular pain on himself when he heard a familiar voice from his side. "Such a waste that a good looking G-man like yourself is stuck here all alone with no one to keep you company," Scully said as she sat in the seat next to him. Mulder smiled at her as she took her place next to him. "Well, at least it's better than spending the evening listening to Frohike speak of his undying affection for a beautiful redhead." "Hey don't rain on my parade. Compliments from Frohike are the only things that brighten my days," Scully said as she sipped her glass of champagne. "But if you ever tell him I said that, I will shoot you again and aim lower this time," she smiled. "Well, go ahead and do your worst I have my own personal physician on call who will take care of what ever damage you try to do to me. I love to play doctor with her." He wriggled his eyebrows at her and she smiled. "So, have I missed anything exciting? No let me guess, people have been coming up to you this evening asking where Mrs. Spooky is. Asking if there was only enough sanity and normalcy between the two of us for only one to be able to venture out to this thing?" she said with a little venom in her voice. "No nothing like that, but if they were talking of sanity or normalcy Scully, neither of us would ever walk out into the day again." "Hey I'm perfectly sane and normal, it's just that my version of it disagrees with everyone else's. So how long have you been here?" "About an hour. I figured that if I got here when it began I could leave early. What did the results from the lab say?" "Nothing just the basics, been dead two weeks. Death occurred due to strangulation and the drugs in the system were put in there postmortem. Basic day at the office stuff." She took another drink and looked around at all the agents talking and dancing. "Listen, you've done your fair share of this thing. If you want to head out and go home, go ahead. I'll stay the rest of evening and make the small talk for the division. I'll even be good and play nice with Spender." "Spender's here?" Mulder looked around for his least favorite agent and then returned his gaze to Scully who was smiling. "Don't say things like that woman or I may just leave you here to fend for yourself. All I need this evening is Spender. That would just top the evening off. Between that and those stupid 'Where's the little Mrs. Spooky out chasing little green men?' comments I'm ready to go postal." Scully smiled at him in understanding. "Tell me about it. I had just made it into the hall and then Agent Davis comes up and asks me if we are finally investigating some real cases or are we still using governmental money and the bureau as a playground for our love affair. He is lucky I couldn't wear my gun in this dress. You would think that people would have better things to do than talk about me and you." "Yes you would, but then again look at the people we are talking about here, government employees." "Hey, I'm a government employee?" "Yes you are, but you've worked with me for seven years. I have been able to rid you of the standard bullshit and taught you how to be a true FBI agent." Scully turned around and bowed her head and hands to Mulder. "Oh yes I have learned much from you ol' great one." "Watch it Scully or I'll give Frohike a copy of the key to your apartment." "Sorry Mulder didn't mean to go there. It's just that I am getting fed up with this stupid office gossip about you and me. There has got to be other things to talk about or at least other agents to annoy. Although you know, this whole thing could be avoided if you would just go out and get a life. Then they wouldn't talk about me and you." "Hey I don't need a life. I am quite happy living in my little world that consists of the basement and my apartment. Anyway, why do I have to get the life? You are an equal part of this team you can easily go get one and then the gossip will stop," Mulder told her as he took a sip of his champagne. "I don't think so Mulder. Remember I had a life for the first year of our partnership, then it just got in the way of our work. And in case that perfect photographic memory of your's has forgotten, the last few times that I have tried to get a life it has completely backfired. I've gotten attacked by a guy because of a psychotic tattoo and my own version of Chucky. No thank you Mulder I am quite happy living in my own little world spending my time investigating the X-Files. Besides, of the both of us, you are the one who can get a life easiest. I mean you really don't even have to get a new life." Scully stated as she pointed in the direction where Diana Fowley was talking with some other agents. "All you have to do is go say hello and talk with her and I am sure you two can pick up where you left off. Despite all that's happened professionally, I'm sure she'd forget about it all if it meant something happening between you two personally. That would get everyone to shut up about you and me." "Ooohhh no I do not think so Scully," Mulder said as he grabbed another glass from the waiter passing by. "I do not need or want to bring up anything that pertains to my ex-wife or the short time we were together. That time was not the greatest in my life and I have no wishes to replay it again. That whole Gibson Praise incident reflects how we are together. We get so wrapped up in each other that we forget everything around us." He grabbed Scully's hand, "and I have no intentions of having a repeat performance of 'our' relationship like it was when we didn't have the X-Files. Besides I'm quite happy with the way things are right now. I see no need to change it." "Here here I agree." Scully picked up her glass and they toasted. "To the way things are and too bad no one else can realize that it's just the way we want it." "To the way things are." Mulder agreed. Dinner was served shortly after. As usual, the table conversation only complimented the rubber chicken and undercooked steak. The other agents at the table were involved in their own little worlds, once or twice looking at Mulder and Scully. Mulder leaned over to Scully and whispered in her ear, "You're the doctor. Can't you think of something to get out of here? What about the stomach flu or salmonella?" Scully just looked at him. He pouted his lower lip, "Come on Scully, help me out here. This is worse than that road trip to that partner communication skills seminar. And I only wanted you to kill me then. Just imagine what I'm thinking now." Scully smiled at that. "Well, sorry to disappoint you Mulder, but remember the kind of doctor that I am. I only deal with dead patients. If you want my help you'll have to die." "Hey I'm up for it. Anything to get out of here. What do I need, a heart attack, struck by lightning, flesh eating bacteria?" "Mulder, you do realize that you just made me lose my appetite?' "That's okay, find us a way to get out of here and we can stop and get cheese steaks and have some real food." Scully looked at him. "No way Mulder, isn't happening. Whenever cheese steaks are involved the Lone Gunmen follow. "Come on Scully, I'm sure Frohike would get a kick out of your dress. And besides, you have to admit, they are much better company than what we presently have." He waved his hand around the room for emphasize. "All right, let's wait till the end of dinner. I'll grab one dance with Skinner just to make sure that he knows I came and let me make the occasional 'you've done a great job this year' to our favorite big wigs and we'll get out of here. But one comment from Frohike or the guys on how I should be on top of wedding cake and I'm taking my sandwich, yours and theirs and going home to enjoy them all by myself." "No you won't woman! Try and touch my sandwich and I'll hurt you like a certain beast woman." They both laughed and continued to move their food around their plates to pass the time. After the dinner plates had been removed, the band set up and the agents started to dance. Scully turned to Mulder. "All right, I'll go find Skinner and get the dance done. You know it wouldn't hurt you to take one spin around the floor. We have had a busy year, let's at least appear to be somewhat normal and appreciative." Mulder just stared at her with a look that said 'Excuse me, where have you been the last seven years.' Scully responded to his look, "I said appear Mulder, I didn't say we were." She smiled at him. "All right, you grab Skinner and I'll grab Kimberly. That way we can switch partners after the dance without troubles." They get up and head over to Skinner's table. Skinner saw them coming over and ended his conversation with the other agents. "Agents Mulder and Scully, nice to see you two this evening." "Thank you sir," they said in unison. "Agent Scully may I escort you to the dance floor?" Skinner said as he held out his hand to her. "Thank you sir." Scully took his hand and they started to dance. Mulder turned to Kimberly. "Come on Mulder, let's go get this over with and give the gossip hounds something to talk about while they get drunk."" Kimberly said as she led him onto the floor. Scully and Skinner were on the other side of the dance floor. "Agent Scully I want to thank you for coming this evening and getting Mulder to agree to come also." He told her as they danced. "We figured we did enough damage and made enough noise this past year that we should at least attempt to appear like normal agents and seem grateful for our jobs. Plus, do the preverbal bow down to the higher ups." She said. "Then how come Mulder hasn't come around to me?" He asked with a smirk on his face. "We see you everyday, we knew it would be pointless with you. Besides, who said I'm letting Mulder do the talking? I just told him to show up, dress nice, and don't' scare the other agents off. I would do the rest. I would like to keep my job and if I let Mulder do the talking, I wouldn't be here much longer." Scully and Skinner laughed. "Just try and keep this year's excitement down to a minimum. Antarctica, Dallas, the new office, and the Bermuda Triangle were enough. I don't know who got the bigger headache this year accounting or medical. I don't even want to think about what Mulder would do to top this past year." "I'll try, but no promises." "That's all I ask." Skinner spun her around and they continued to dance. Across the room Mulder was watching Scully and Skinner and he checked his watch. 'Is it time to get out of here yet?' he thought. "You know Mulder, looking at your watch isn't going to get you out of here faster," Kimberly said. Mulder looked at her, "Huh?" "Believe me, I've been doing it for the past hour and I am still here. So if it isn't gonna get me out of here sooner, than isn't going to work for you either." "I can hope can't I?" "Yes you can, but it still isn't going to happen. So what are you planning to do to get out here? Call in a bomb threat or something?" "No I figured I'd let Scully be my diversion while dancing with Skinner and I'd just grab you to myself. That way we could run out of here and into the night." He smiled down at her. "Nice try Mulder, but I won't leave Skinner here alone with out me to back him up. Besides, my date wouldn't be too pleased if I left him. And I wouldn't want to think what Dana would do to you if you left her here alone to deal with all the agents. One minute alone with Spender or Fowley and you would have to go down to the police station to get her out for murder." They both laughed. Kim looked over at Skinner and Scully and then returned to Mulder. "I think it's time we changed partners and give you and Scully a chance to get out here. That way we can give the gossip hounds at the bar something to talk when you two leave together." Mulder looked at her, "What would I do without you Kimberly?" "Probably be the only topic of conversation around if I didn't direct the secretaries into other territory. At least with me around I can let you know what is going on with the office pools and who's saying what. Come on, let's get you guys out of here." They headed over to where Skinner and Scully were. "Took you long enough to get over here and rescue your partner Mulder. Hope you're timing isn't like this in field." Skinner said as he and Mulder exchanged partners. "No sir, I just figured I'd just let her dance with someone who knew how to before I stepped all over her feet." "I think I've changed my mind, Kim you can have Mulder back." Scully said. "No thank you. My toes hurt enough already. It's your turn have all the fun." She said as she led Skinner off. Scully turned to Mulder. "All right, almost out of here. One dance and we split. Just remember, you owe me a cheese steak and you have to protect me from any comments from the Gunmen." "You don't need me to protect you Scully. You can take perfect care of yourself. If anything I need protection from you. I have a gun shot wound to prove you are quite capable of handling yourself." She smiled at him. "Yes I know I can protect myself. But I figured that since I had to wear this dress, listen to stupid conversation, and kiss enough butt to last me a lifetime, that for the rest of the evening I am going to enjoy myself and turn off my brain for the rest of the holiday. That means you do the important stuff, like keeping Frohike at bay." Mulder saluted her, "Aye aye captain." A new song came on and they continued to dance. Wouldn't you know it I've lost my courage Isn't that funny me lost for words? Not that it really matters, 'cause I know you know And you would have told me yourself if you could Remember the first time, we met each other? You were in your world and I was in mine Breaking down the barriers, we broke all the rules But wasn't it good, wasn't it fine? While I took for granted, you took your time Longing for love oh how we tried It's over now that's understood, but wasn't it good? So long together, two would be lovers Caring for flowers that just wouldn't grow And in all of our tomorrows, we'll have yesterday And wasn't it good, wasn't it fine? While I took for granted, you took your time Longing for love, oh how we tried It's over now that's understood.. But wasn't it good Wasn't it fine? While I took for granted you took your time Longing for love, oh how we tried It's over now that understood But wasn't it good? As the song faded away, Mulder and Scully pulled apart and by unspoken agreement made their way out of the hall. They grabbed their coats and left. On their way to the Lone Gunmen Headquarters with the cheese steaks in hand for the boys, both of them kept thinking about the song and how it fit them perfectly. They both were in their own worlds till they had met each other. Then they grew to trust and love each other and all the walls between them (except for one physical one) had been pulled down. Antarctica and all that happened with it showed them that they had been taking things for granted and going at their own pace. They both longed for the same thing, but didn't want it to ruin all that they had worked for with the X-Files. But they couldn't keep living on tomorrows, because they would soon only be left with yesterdays because tomorrow would eventually no longer be an option if they took too long. But was the right moment now? End 1/13 No One But You 2/13 DenyTheTruth kelleigh@glasscity.net ----------------------- Lone Gunmen Headquarters 9:30 p.m. They pulled into the space adjacent to the Lone Gunmen Headquarters and got out. Mulder rang the buzzer. "Hey guys its us. We got cheese steaks and just for Frohike, Scully's in a nice black dress." He winked at Scully. "What's the password?" they heard Byers ask. "That I'm going to go home with your guys' sandwiches and change my mind about becoming Frohike's love slave. Now let me in, I'm cold." Scully said. The door opened and Langly let them in while he took the sandwiches from Scully. "I knew there was a reason why we liked you two so much. You know just what we like and when it need it." He said as he led them into the shop where Frohike and Byers were hunched over a computer. "Don't tell me you guys are surfing all the X rated pages on the Internet. You know there are healthier ways to spend a Friday night." Scully said as she moved between Byers and Frohike to see what they were looking at. "Who needs to search the web? All I have to do is borrow Mulder's collection and my Friday night is set." Frohike said to her. "Oh well, that's too bad Frohike. If you're happy with paper and picture, I'll have to find someone else to play with." Scully playfully said back to him. "For you Agent Scully, I would personally burn all of my tapes and magazines and Mulder's for that matter." "Hey, I'm not the one who worships the deity of Dana. Leave my belongings out of this." Mulder piped in as he came over to the computer. "Come on Mulder, you get rid of those things and you have to get that life that we were talking about earlier." Scully winked at him. "Mulder getting a life, that is about as likely as you guys actually not having any evidence disappear." Langly said as he handed the sandwiches out. "So what brings you guys by here?" "Well, we just left the lovely little FBI holiday get together and needed real food and conversation. Who else to share it with than you guys?" Mulder said. "Besides, I wanted to stop by and give you guys your Christmas gifts before I head out of town for the holidays." Scully said as she pulled out a gift for each of the Gunmen. "Merry Christmas and Happy New Years guys." "Thanks Scully," they each said in turn. Frohike left his space to put the gifts under the tree in the corner. Scully took his seat and looked at the screen. "So what has you guys so enthralled anyway?" she asked. "Frohike's just arguing with a new Internet friend over your guy's little adventure in Antarctica. This guy online swears Russian officials faked the seismograph readings so the government could send more money to their base down there. He believes it is where they are stockpiling nuclear weapons and government spies." Langly said. "While Frohike here is trying to explain that it was a UFO from aliens that are in league with the government." Byers added. "Mulder how many times have I told you not to bring your little friends into your warped little imaginative world?" Scully said. "Scully you were there. Hell you had an alien forming in you. How can you not believe what I told you?" Scully looked at him and said, "Mulder, if I believed everything you said, then we wouldn't have any of our many heated conversations on belief verses science. Then where would I get my entertainment?" Scully playfully said to him. "Besides, my need for proof has gotten us farther along than just believing hasn't it?" Mulder ignored her last comment, trying to forget how he treated her when she first said that she believed in him, but that she needed real proof to "believe." "Scully if you want fun and games, I'm sure Frohike could come up with something to help keep you occupied," Mulder answered back. Frohike was back in the conversation. "Mulder I'm sure my games just pale in comparison to the fun Scully has egging you on. That's why we love her so much. No one else can get under your skin so well and still get away with it." "And here I thought you liked it for me to come around so you could look at my body," Scully said to Frohike. "All this time you just wanted me for my mind. You sure know how to deflate a girl's ego." Byers and Langly laughed. Frohike just looked amazed at her. "Geeze Scully, can you get any worse tonight?" Mulder patted Frohike on the back to bring him into the present. " I think you might have almost given Frohike a heart attack there." "Mulder you don't want to know how much worse I can get. I just figured a little good natured holiday fun was allowed and besides Frohike is the best one to play with," Scully answered. Mulder pouted his lip, "seven years of partnership and all my comments. She finally catches on and all my hard work is wasted on Frohike. I swear I just can't win." "There there Mulder." Langly patted him on the back. "You knew one day Scully would grow up and move on to other play mates. You have to learn to share your toys." Scully and Byers burst into laughter. "Don't even make a comment about my 'toys' Scully!" Mulder told her. Scully tried to stop laughing. "I wasn't going to say a thing about your toys. I was just going to say that you never play with others and that's why you are in the basement." "Then what's your excuse Scully?" "I just love weird men who look for government conspiracies around every corner and have the knack for getting in the middle of them." "Well then Scully, you need to stop hanging around Mulder and become the first Lone Gunwoman. We have more theories than Mulder." Frohike said. "Yes, but I don't know if I could trust myself around you Frohike. At all the theories you have, I would just become enamored by you." This time Langly and Mulder laughed. Byers left the room. "So that's why you've stayed by Mulder all these years. You've finally fallen to his charms and paranoia. At least I lost you to a man after my own heart." Frohike said as he kissed her hand. Byers came back into the room and gave Scully her gift from them. "Enough Frohike or she'll become afraid of your gift. Merry Christmas Agent Scully. We hope you have a nice holiday this year." "Thank you Byers and thank you too Langly and Frohike. See Mulder, the Gunmen remember Christmas and it took you, what, almost five years to remember my birthday, maybe I should join them." She smiled at them all. "Then who would I find to call in the middle of the night and bug? Who would I send my dead bodies too?" "I get dead bodies and three in the morning phone calls. What more does a girl want?" Scully smiled at Mulder and thought she saw a little hurt in his eyes at her comment. "So when do you leave for San Diego?" Byers asked. "Tomorrow afternoon. Mom and I leave Dulles at 1. Charlie's ship isn't due to dock until Sunday night, so we'll have all Saturday night and Sunday afternoon to get settled into the hotel and ready for Monday at Bill's." "You won't be staying at your brother's this year?" Byers asked. "No after last year, I am not really in the mood to deal with Bill and his attitude. I'd stay here in D.C over the holidays if it wasn't for the fact that this will be the first time I've seen Charlie in years." Frohike turned to Mulder. "Well Mulder, since Scully's out of town you're welcome to join us. We're going to New York for the week." Mulder looked at Scully and thought he saw a little pain in her eyes knowing that she knew he was going to be alone this year. "Maybe guys, we'll see. If a case doesn't come up." "Mulder it's the holidays. Take a few days off. Besides, I don't need you getting into trouble when I'm on the other side of the country. All though if something did come up you could ask Agent Fowley for help," Scully said. Mulder choked on his bite of his sandwich and the Gunmen laughed. "Scully never say a thing like that to man about his ex. Especially when he has food in his mouth. Besides as I already told you I don't really care to open that can of worms again." "Mulder, take a chance. You act like she's a piranha. It is just a simple 'hello, how have you been?' that you have to say." Byers said to him. "Besides, Scully's right, a life would do you good and you and Diana were good together." Frohike noticed that Scully's expression changed at Byers' words and he decided to change the subject. "So Agent Scully, you're dressed in one of the most beautiful pieces of clothing I have ever seen, and spending Friday night with the four of us." He looked at the guys in the room. "Does anyone else here see a problem with this picture or is it just me?" "It's simple Frohike. You four have ruined me for other men. I'll be the old lady at the end of the street who talks about government conspiracies and to my cats. While you guys are off with your families trying to forget you ever knew me." "For that to happen we would have to get out of our hovel and venture into the world," Langly said. "Yeah won't happen. We'll just be the four weird guys that share the house with you, but I will have dogs to talk to," Frohike said. Scully smiled, "well, at least I won't be alone. To the future." She held her sandwich up in a salute and the others did the same. All three of the Gunmen were thinking the same thing. 'If Mulder and Scully continued as they were, that could possibly be where they ended up, alone. Something had to give soon or their partnership was going to bear the burden.' Mulder was thinking how sad it all sounded. He knew Scully was joking, but he realized that if he wasn't careful, he would end up like that. He needed to change things now, but in doing that, it would shift the balance he and Scully had and he was sure that she didn't want to move further while there was so much she still had to do at the bureau. Scully was thinking the same as Mulder. If things kept going as they were, she would be alone. It was time for her to change some things and get that life her and Mulder joked about. Problem was, Mulder was in that life that she wanted and she knew that he didn't want to change things while there was so much in the X-Files to do and Sam to still find. They continued for the next few hours talking and joking until Scully decided she needed to get home and get some rest before her trip. "Thank you guys for cheering me up this evening," Scully said as they left. After Mulder and Scully left, the Gunmen went back to their computers. "Did you guys notice the extra jabbing they were tossing at each other?" Byers asked. "Yeah, at every corner there they were joshing each other," Langly said. "Something's about to happen guys. Things are gonna change soon." Frohike said. "What makes you say that?" the other Gunmen asked. "Simple. Mulder finally told Scully about Diana, they've got the X-Files back on track and where they want them. They're learning more of the truth and you can tell by the playing that was going on between them that they have finally wised up and come to terms with their feelings." Frohike said. "Well that's nothing new. We've know for a while that they love each other," Byers said. "Yeah, we've know and others around them have known also. But for all the intelligence between Mulder and Scully they were blind as a bat. They finally opened their eyes and realized it. Now that they know it, there are only two ways to handle it. Acknowledge they love each other , but do nothing about it and keep things as they are," Frohike said. "Which can only lead to worse tensions between them than they already have," Langly added. "Or act on it." "Which would change things between them personally and professionally," Byers added. "A basic no win situation. 'Cause no matter which way they go trouble will follow," Langly added. "I don't think so, if they finally act on it, it will only strengthen things. Sure it will take a while to get use to it and how to balance the personal and professional aspect of it. But they can handle it. The problem is that they can't realize that each one is waiting for the other one to finally make the move. It can only stay like this for so long before they give up and move on. That will only cause even more friction between them," Frohike said. "Well then, during this time that Scully is gone, we'll have to try and steer Mulder in the right direction. Their work is too important to let this get in the way. And they both need some happiness in their lives," Byers said and then they decided to end the conversation. Mulder's car En route to Scully's Apartment 12:45 a.m. The ride to Scully's place was spent in their usual comfortable silence. Even though neither Mulder nor Scully were feeling very comfortable. Both couldn't stop thinking about what had been said during the evening. 'Am I really happy with how things are in my life right now, or am I just comfortable with it and not willing the chance to change it?' they both thought. 'Maybe it's time to shake things up a bit,' Scully thought. She looked over at Mulder and then thought back to the last time she tried to shake things ups. 'No, I don't want a repeat performance of that. Besides, this time Mulder is what I would want not a tattoo and I can't guarantee that he can handle or wants to handle it right now. But I don't want to stay like this and be alone,' She thought. Mulder looked over and saw Scully staring at him. "Everything okay Scully?" "Oh yeah fine, I just dazed out there for a few minutes," she turned and looked back out the window. Mulder alternated between looking at the road and Scully. 'Something has got to give,' he thought. 'Tonight just proves it. I want something more and we've danced around this thing for far too long. But do I want to risk losing what I do have with Scully on an off chance she would want to change things?' Mulder pulled up to Scully's apartment. "Thanks for me giving a ride Mulder. You have a good holiday and try to keep out of trouble when I'm not around." "Sure, I'll do my best. Can that count as my Christmas gift then?" he smiled at her. Scully laughed. "You not getting in trouble for 2 full weeks when I'm not around, I would not only consider that my Christmas, but also my birthday present for the next few years." She opened the door and walked around to Mulder's side of the car. Mulder rolled down the window Scully kissed him on the cheek. "Just relax and enjoy your time off. I need you refreshed when I get back so we can start the fun all over again." "You do the same. Tell your mom I said hi." "I will, I'll even tell Bill you say happy holidays too." Mulder cringed. "Just avoid me at all times around Bill." "I was joking, but Charlie is a free market when it comes to talking about you." "Hey I think I should at least be introduced to the guy before you start talking about me behind my back to him." Scully laughed, "goodnight Mulder." "Night Scully." Scully went into her apartment and Mulder drove off. Personal Journal of Fox William Mulder Continued Saturday December 20th That's what has got me here sitting on my couch writing a bunch of words down on paper. It's either this or bouncing my basketball along the floor and my neighbors got sick of that around six a.m. That's when I began writing in here. What in the hell am I going to do? I have figured it out. Despite what I said earlier, I no longer am happy with how things are. I do not want to be alone anymore, but I don't want just anyone. I want Scully. Now my only problem is, does she want me? Well I know she loves me, but I don't know if she wants to move this thing between us to the next level. (God I sound like some Buddhist monk here) I have been thinking about this since I got home. For all the reasons that there are for me and Scully not to become lovers, I have equal arguments that we should. 1) They could use it against us. But they already use our trust and faith in each other as it is. (Three of the longest months in my life come to mind) So, that wouldn't be anything new. 2) It would change the way we work with each other as partners. But we are both professionals and adults. We are already together in every other sense. What difference does the physical make? I believe that we can keep out hormones in check and not end up doing it in our office on my desk. (Although I wouldn't mind it once, hey I am a guy) 3) The bureau would separate us. They tried that already and it didn't work. Besides, the X-Files are starting to make some true head way and have actually been getting more respect. There are no other agents who would want to work with me (except for Diana, but she's my ex and if I couldn't have Scully because she's my lover, then my ex can't work with me either). 4) Scully would be thought of as a slut who is just sleeping with her boss "to get ahead" and wouldn't get any respect. Well, we know that's stupid. First off, related to the X-Files in any way sort of kills your chance for advancement and despite the times that she has had the chance to leave she has stayed of her own choice. And as for the respect, she doesn't get that much of it now since she has stepped onto the sacred ground of "The Boy's Club." As an agent, I can't think of anyone better than her. Hell she makes me look like a first year rookie half of the time. You see there is no real reason for me and Scully not to move forward. Except for the fact that maybe she doesn't want to, but I don't think that is a possibly. I at least hope not, because I have made my decision. I'm going to go over to her place (I have to give her the real Christmas gift anyway) and let her know that when she comes back after New Years, I want to finally cross that line and give myself to her heart, soul, mind, and body. Even though she already has had every one of them for the past four years. I gave her them the day she woke up from her coma and said 'Not Fox, Mulder.' It just took me this long to realize that I want to truly let her know this and move from there. So I am off to give Scully her gift and my heart. And this time I am going to make sure it ends the way I want it. Even if I have to check everywhere for bees and convince her that it isn't drugs talking. FWM Personal Journal of Dana Katherine Scully Continued Saturday December 20th So there you have it. That's what has gotten me where I am at this moment. Now I'm making sure that I have everything I need for my two weeks in San Diego with my family. Praying that Bill and I can get along and be civil to each other. Hoping that Charlie hasn't bought everything Bill has said about Mulder at face value. And worrying about how I am going to handle the fact that I am tired of playing games and want to erase that damn line we have between Mulder and me and take the next step. I have concluded that I do not care what it could mean to my career or reputation or the X-Files. Because as long as I have Mulder by my side, we can fight them and come out on the other side as winners (even if it doesn't always seem like it). We can make this work. Now all that I have to do is decide when and how to tell Mulder. Then I have to convince him that it is the right thing to do. Despite all that we said last night I am happy with my life, except for the fact that Mulder isn't in it more. That is what is going to be a challenge, making Mulder see that even though doing this will bring more complexity into our lives, nothing else will change except that the tension will be gone. He will still be the same Mulder and I will be the same Scully. Except that we can be them together. I am going to have to make Mulder see that he is all that I want and that his presence in my life has brought me nothing but happiness. Despite all that has happened, I would never change a thing, even the Flukemen. That's going to be tough, trying to erase all the bullshit, crap and hurt that he has gone through for the past 25 years. But I'll be dammed if I let that stop me from getting what I want to be happy. So there, that is my New Years resolution. To tell Mulder that it's time to change things and that I want to make sure that next New Years we spend together as a couple. Now my only question is how am I going to tell him and when? Well the when is easy, after I get back from San Diego, the how is going to be tough. I can't just go up and drop this bomb in his lap. "Hi Mulder, I thought it was time I told you that I love you and to let you know that I want to end the games."" That just doesn't seem to be the right way to handle it. But I've got two weeks to figure it all out. Well, someone just knocked on my door so I'll end this for now and get back to you after I've dealt with the Mulder situation. I need to keep all my concentration on it if I want to make sure I do it right. DKS End 2/13 No One But You 3/13 DenyTheTruth kelleigh@glasscity.net ---------------------- Scully's Apartment Saturday December 20th 11 a.m. Mulder stood outside of Scully's apartment and knocked on the door, drawing up enough courage to get everything out that he wanted to say. Scully answered the door and was surprised to see Mulder there. "Hey Mulder, what are you doing here? Checking up on me or did you find a case?" she smiled at him. "No, I wanted to make sure that you got everything you needed for your trip and to give you your real gift." He brought a box out from behind his gave it to her. "Hope you like it." She took the box and stepped aside for him to come in. "Thanks. Go sit down on the couch and I'll get you your gift." She went into her room and Mulder propped his feet up on the coffee table and tried to calm down. "I was gonna wait till I got back, but since you brought me my gift, you can have yours now." She announced as she sat down next to him and handed him his box. "We can open them now since we won't be together for Christmas." They opened their gifts at the same time and just looked at them. "Mulder" "Scully" they said at the same time. "Scully, where did you get this?" he asked as he pulled out a picture of him and Samantha. There was another one under it; it was a picture of him and Scully together at a crime scene that had been taken for a newspaper article. Both of the pictures were in antique silver frames. "I called your mother and asked her if she had any copies of that picture of you and Sam that you kept at the office before it burned down. I had to go to her home one weekend and look through boxes, but I found it and had a copy made of it so you could have it in the new office. The photographer for the newspaper sent me a copy of the picture of you and me and I figured that since the only picture you ever liked of us together was burnt in the fire, I should get you another one. Have some sort of proof that we actually worked together." She smiled at him. Mulder was brought to tears. He put down the pictures and hugged Scully. "They are perfect thank you." "You're welcome and thank you for my gifts." She answered him back as they broke from the embrace. "I wasn't sure if you would like it. I had your mom help me find them for you." Scully pulled out a leather medical journal diary with her initials and MD on it. She also pulled out the matching journal that came with it. It had her full name and the X-Files embroidered on the cover and each page had the inscription: 'The Truth is Out There' on it. "When we went through the debris after the fire, I saw that the medical journal that your father gave you when you gradated was destroyed. I thought you'd need another once since we are back in business. So you can put all the strange medical mysteries we came across down. I also figured you could use one just for the experiences we come across that aren't medical marvels, or at least have a place to vent your frustrations out in," he explained with a smile. "They're perfect Mulder. Thank you." She hugged him and then kissed him on the cheek. He held her against his cheek a while longer. "Scully," he said as he pulled away and looked into her eyes. "The gift isn't the only reason that I stopped by today." He took a deep breath. "I wanted to speak with you before you left for San Diego because there is something that has been on my mind for awhile now and I have to let you know about it." Scully was looking at him very intently. Worrying if it was something bad that he wanted to talk to her about. She was getting worried. Mulder got up from the couch and walked around the room. He stopped in front of her window and looked out into the neighborhood. "What is it Mulder?" Scully asked with a hint of fear in her voice. "Scully," he started. "You remember back at my apartment before you were taken to Antarctica?" She nodded to his back. Mulder sighed and slumped his shoulders down. He turned around and looked at her, trying to keep his tears at bay. 'You can do this' he thought. 'Just a few sentences and then you can let her decide. But what if she doesn't want it?' "Mulder what is it, you're making me a little nervous. Whatever it is you just tell me and let me handle it. Don't worry about trying to protect me." Scully said. Mulder walked over to her and sat on the coffee table in front of her so he was at eye level. "Scully," he paused again and closed his eyes. Scully rested her hand on his knee and squeezed it to let him know that he could go at his own pace. "Scully that night at my apartment. When you told me that you had given Skinner your letter of resignation, I thought my heart was going to stop beating right then and there. You have no idea what was going through my mind. I was worrying that if you quit, then I couldn't be there to protect you." He shushed her response with a finger to her lips. "Just let me say this and then you can respond. I know you don't need me to protect you, but I have still taken that on as my responsibility. But that wasn't all that I was thinking about. I was also thinking that if you weren't there, then it would only be a matter of time before I was gone." "As I told you that night, you are the one who keeps me honest. You've help make the X-Files respectable. I couldn't have done any of this if you hadn't been there with me. But despite that, it wasn't even the most important thing that I was thinking at the time. The most important thought going through my mind was that you were leaving me. Not just the X-Files or the bureau, but me too. Since we no longer would be working together, you would have no reason to stay in contact with me." Scully tried to speak again, but Mulder stopped her. "No let me get through this while I can. All my mind could flash to was all that you have gone through the last six years: Tooms, EBE's, Krycek, your abduction, Donnie Pfaster, New Mexico, Melissa, Modell, your time in jail when you went up against Congress, Gerry Schnauz, your cancer, Emily, the control they inflict on you through your chip. All of that you have gone through because of your work with the X-Files and me. I was worried that you would see all the pain that you've gone through because of your acquaintance with me. I was afraid that you had finally decided to say the hell with it and be rid of me for good. That just about killed me right then and there. I couldn't think of anything except you were leaving me. Not the bureau or the X-Files, but me forever. Scully, for the past six and a half years you have been my life. You keep me from crawling further into the dark and never being able to get back out. You showed me that there was good in the world and happiness was possible for me. Every minute that I got to spend with you, whether we were arguing over a case, working on an expense report, driving to a crime scene, or just sitting around in silence. Every single moment of it I have cherished and loved. For awhile now, you have been the one constant in my life. You've stood by my side no matter what stupid things I've done or said, and I've done a lot of them." Scully smiled at that comment, her eyes full of tears just waiting to be shed. "All of this that has happened and all that was said last night made me realize that without you in my life, I have no life. I wake up each morning knowing that I'm going to walk into the basement office and see you there for another day. Your smile, your eyes, your voice, your mind, every single thing that makes you who you are. I love to see them each day. That is what has kept me going through all the hard times. Not the X-Files, not my search for Sam, not the search for the truth. Those are all that I wanted to find, but it is you that keeps me going and looking for them." He pulled her hands into his and held them. "Scully, somewhere in the middle of all of the this madness that has become our lives, I fell in love with you. I can't tell you when or where it happened. All that I know is that you are a part of my heart and that without you I wouldn't make it. Since the day you were abducted four years ago, I have lived with that knowledge and tried to keep it from interfering with our work and partnership. I didn't want to do anything to jeopardize it or make you want to leave. But what has happened in the last few months has made me really think and realize that my love for you isn't going to hurt you or me. It just makes us stronger and more determined. I tried to keep it at bay, but when I thought I was going to lose you, I had to tell you and let you know." "Last night, when we were talking about how we were happy with how things were and then at the Lone Gunmen when we joked about ending up old and alone. I realized that isn't what I want and I'm not happy with how my life is right now. I'm glad that the X-Files are back and that we are partners again and that we've made it to another year. But I'm not happy with the fact that despite all the good things, I don't have someone to share them with. I don't have someone to tell everything I'm feeling to. I don't have someone to love and come home to just to hold and know that I am loved back and depended on just as much as I depend on them." "I'm 37 years old and just tired of being alone. The movies and magazines, they release the stress for a while, but they don't do anything for me here." He took her hand and put it over his heart. "Not a single one of them or all of them put together can do for my heart what just one look at you can do to it." Scully couldn't help herself; the tears started to flow from her eyes and her body started to shake. "Oh Mulder," she wrapped her arms around him and held onto him as she cried. Soon she realized that he was crying too. She pulled away from him and tried to wipe her eyes. She looked at him and tried to speak but Mulder stopped her again. "Before you say anything else, there is just one more thing that I have to say to you and then you can speak your piece. I love you with all of my heart and all of my soul. I know that there isn't anything that can compare with what I have with you. You are my soul mate and since the moment that you entered into my office almost seven years ago, you have been a permanent fixture in my life and there is nothing I wouldn't do for you." He got off of the table and searched his coat pocket for something. He pulled out a box and then pushed the coffee table back so he could sit on his knees in front of Scully. "Scully... Dana," he smiled. "For the past few years you've been by my side, listened to all my crazy theories, patched me up and made sure I was okay. You've put up with gossip; smart-ass comments from other agents, reprimands, a not so official end to any further advancement in your career, and still stood by me even when my trust in you faltered and was misplaced to another. You've done so much and gotten so little in return. I'm hoping this," he opened up the box and she looked inside to find a gold band with a beautiful diamond in the center with two amethysts on each side. "I hope that this can only start to express all that you have done for me and all that I want to say to you." Scully was crying again and shaking her head. Mulder was worried for a moment until he saw her smile at him. He reached up and cupped her face and kissed her. It was soft; passion filled kiss that spoke of so many promises. Scully was so shocked that she just sat there. When he pulled away, Scully was about to speak when there was a knock at the door. "Dana honey, you in there?" her mom asked. "Just...just a second mom," Scully answered back. She looked at Mulder to see him putting on his jacket and gathering his gifts. She got up to stop him, but he continued. When he was ready to leave he walked over to her and looked her straight in the eye. "You don't have to say anything right now. I just came here to finally tell you the truth and to let you have the chance to digest it all over the next two weeks. Enjoy your time with your family." He kissed her on the forehead and whispered in her ear. "I love you and no matter what this changes, I always will and will never stop." He walked over to the door and let Mrs. Scully in. "Hi Mrs. Scully, she's all yours," he said as he walked out the door. "Hello Fox, I didn't think that I'd get to see you and wish you a Merry Christmas." "You too. I just stopped to give Scully her gift and to wish you two a good trip. Now get her out of here and make sure she gets some color on her skin." He kissed Mrs. Scully on the cheek and then looked over at Scully who had composed herself. "See you in two weeks." He said and left. Mrs. Scully walked over to her daughter and sensed that she had come along at an important moment. "Dana, is everything alright?" Scully nodded at her mom. "Yes everything's fine, I'm just a little emotional over the gifts from Mulder." "I thought they would be perfect for you. Did he like his gifts?" "Yes he did." Scully looked at her watch, "oh we better get going or we'll miss our flight." She went and grabbed her coat and bags. "You got your gifts for everyone?" Her mom asked as they left he apartment. "Yeah I got everything," she said as she fingered Mulder's ring that she had in her pocket. "I can't wait to see Charlie again." They put Scully's things in the car and left for the airport. End 3/13 No One But You 4/13 DenyTheTruth kelleigh@glasscity.net ---------------------- William Scully's residence Monday December 22nd 12:30 p.m. Pacific Standard Time 'Well this is just how I wanted to spend my holiday!' Scully thought as she sat next to her mother on the couch in her brother Bill's living room. The whole family was sitting around listening to the news of Charlie's engagement to the daughter of his captain. The moment the news came that the youngest of the Scully children was finally settling down, Bill had to open his mouth and start in on the last of the single Scully children. "You know Dana, that just leaves you now. If Charlie can find the time to find someone, you can too. You at least are around more than Charlie is since he is out to sea so much," he said. "Bill, not everyone has to be married off. What are you trying to do? Get rid of your kid sister and give her to someone else to handle." She tried to tease him to ease the tension. "I know that, but I think it's time for you to move on and settle down. You went to medical school and graduated, joined the FBI and have a career there. Now I think that it is time that you worry about your personal life and start thinking about Dana Scully the person, not Dana Scully the professional. Work with the bureau can only do so much for you, especially working with Mulder. You need to take all the chances you can get to find a normal life." Mrs. Scully and Charles noticed the look of hurt and anger that Scully gave her brother. "Look Bill," Charlie said trying to maintain the peace. "Dana doesn't need to go out get married and have 2.5 children and a house in the suburbs. She's doing what makes her happy and that is all that matters. I just wanted to find someone to be with so I don't have to be alone. Dana's always been the loner of us all and can take care of herself. Besides, even though she is my older sister, I don't really feel in the mood to share her with another man." Charlie winked at his sister and she said a silent prayer for having at least one family member who understood. "I know she can take care of herself, it's just that so many things have happened in the past few years and I think that it is time that she moves on." Bill said. "Excuse me," Scully interrupted. "But what do you mean move on and since when have my personal and private life become your responsibility? I'm almost 35 years old, I can take care of myself." "Dana I know you are perfectly capable of looking out for yourself, but you have to admit over the past seven years, ever since you've been assigned to Mulder and those damn X-Files your life has been turned upside down. I just think that you need to move on now and think about yourself instead of that paranoid, Martian chasing idiot." Bill said. "Bill!!" Charles, Margaret and Tara all said at the same time. "Listen Bill, it is the holidays. This is the first time that I have seen Charlie in years." "And whose fault is that? All the times that Charlie is around, you're off on a case, " He said. "Well yes. But I just want to enjoy my time with him and I don't need you going off on some tantrum in regards to my job or personal life." "But that's just it Dana, you have no personal life. You've had nothing of your own life since the day Mulder was put into your life. You have been kidnapped, shot, given cancer, somehow had a child that none of us knew of and to top it off we also lost Melissa. I just think you now need to take this chance and get away from him." "Bill that is enough," Margaret said. Charlie got up and grabbed his sister's and his own coat. "Listen, mom, Tara. I know I said that I would help with dinner tonight, but I want to get out and get some fresh air. Dana you want to come along?" He handed his sister her coat before she could answer and they left the house. The moment the door was closed Tara turned to her husband. "Bill I can not believe you just did that. What in the hell were you thinking?" "What do you mean? I was just saying what we were all thinking. It's time for her to grow up and move on. Stop playing this little FBI game and get a family for herself. I don't want her alone with Mulder as her only company." "William Scully Jr. I have never been so ashamed of you in all my life," Margaret said to him. "What do you mean? Mom, just last year at this time Dana had just barely survived cancer and she found out about a daughter that she had that she had no idea about. She was so alone and depressed I could see her pain. She closed herself off to all of us. She wouldn't talk to me or you or anyone, except for Mulder and he's the cause for all of this. She tells us so little about what she really does, but from what she does tell us I know that it is dangerous and stupid and that she needs to get away from it all if she wants to have chance at a normal life." "Bill, not everyone wants that normal life. I have known your sister as long as I have known you. From the day I met her I have known that she is different from all other women. She can take care of herself. Yes she has had some troubles in the last few years, but she has survived. Last year was rough on her and we did not help things at all." She shushed his response. "None of us helped her, she needed support even if she didn't ask for it. Now things are better for her this year and she is happy, or she was until you started in on Mulder and her work. This is the first time that we have all been together and it could be the last time for awhile. I want to have a nice family holiday with no arguments." "Yes Bill, and that means that you will stop acting like the over protective brother. If push comes to shove your sister can take better care of herself better than you can. You will no longer speak ill of her life and any aspects of it. Including Fox, we are her family by blood but for the past few years he has become her family also. All that you have to say about staying close and being together doesn't have much of a past to back up. I know that you have your own family and career to worry about and so does Dana. That is why she joined the bureau and works with Mulder. It is the life that she wants and as long as she is happy, that is all that there is to it." Mrs. Scully said to her son as she went to get a drink from the kitchen. "But that's the point mom," Bill said as her followed her. "She isn't happy. She needs to move one with her life. The farther from Mulder the better." "Bill did you ever stop and think that Dana chooses to stay with Mulder?" Tara asked. "They have been through so much and know each other so well. He has not only been there to back her up at work but he was also there to help support mom when she was missing and when she came back in the coma." "Which never would have happened if she never worked with him?" Bill said. "You can't blame Fox for that. Dana chose a dangerous job and that is what comes along with it, risks," Margaret said as she sat down on the couch. "This is the end of this conversation. Charlie just got back and is getting married, Dana's health is fine, you and Tara and Mathew are well. I have a lot to be very grateful for this year and I want to enjoy my time with you all. I can not do this if you continue to harp on Dana. She has been through so much." "I'm not harping on her, I am just trying to get her to open her eyes." "Yes, just like you tried to open Fox's eyes outside the hospital before she went into remission." His mother spat out. Bill's eyes widened at her words. "Yes Bill that is right, I heard all you said to him. He is not a sorry sonovabitch. He has been there for your sister whenever she needed him. They are each other's support and you had better get use to it because as long as Dana feels that she can make a difference she will work him. When her and Charlie get back I do not want to hear one word out of you in regards to Fox. Let it alone. We all have our feeling on the matter with Fox, but we are not going to bring them up. Charles hasn't even meet him once and I am already afraid of what he thinks. I don't need to you telling him your opinion of Fox and making things any worse. So just let it lie." She got up and went to her room. Tara turned to her husband. "I'm going to check on Mathew, when I get back I hope to God you have changed your attitude. This is not how I want to spend the holidays and I am sure if Dana wanted to spend it with assholes she would have stayed in D.C. and worked." Tara left and Bill went to make a drink for himself. 'What in the hell just happened here?' he thought as he took a drink of his Scotch. 'The man puts one of my sisters' lives in danger and gets the other one killed and everyone wants to defend him. This is bull shit and I am not going to stand for it.' Bill grabbed the bottle and went out into the backyard. A Park a few streets away from the Scully Residence Scully sat on a swing along side her brother and tried to loose some of the tension that had built up over the past few hours. "You know Dana, I love you and Bill to death, but this is exactly why I don't come around that much," Charlie said. "Don't start Charlie. I am sorry that my life doesn't meet your and Bill's approval." "I don't mean anything like that. I don't come around because Bill has it stuck in his head that it is his place to be dad now and you don't need him to do that. Bill just can't stand not being in charge and you are the lucky one who gets to deal with it." He smiled at his sister trying to lighten the mood. "So, am I finally going to get the whole story of what has been going on in your life for the past seven years?" Scully looks at him with a question on her face. "I know what you have written to me, what mom has told me, and what Bill has told me. Now, would you like to tell me what has really been going on? I know that you have to be careful with National Security and everything, but I am tired of this shit I get with Bill and this Mulder. I mean all I know about this guy is that he wants to be called by his last name, is dedicated to his work and together you two have a knack for finding trouble." Scully smiled at that comment. "Now I want to know what it is that makes this man such a fixture in our lives?" "He's my partner Charlie. In our job it gets dangerous and we have become the best of friends. That's why he's in my life and why he is a fixture in it as you say. Things happen and he has been the one who has been there to help me." "Don't even try it kiddo. I know that tone and speech. It is the same one Melissa gave when she was hiding something and didn't want anyone to know. So spill it, what is it that's going on? I've known you my whole life, I know how you are and how you act. Something has changed about you. I saw the way you looked at Bill when he mentions Mulder. You usually keep a cool head and try to talk things out, but from what I saw that was the last thing you wanted to do. So what's going on? Have you finally realized that you love the guy and now you just want to beat the shit out of Bill?" Scully gapped at her brother. "What did you just say?" "Come on Dana, all that you have gone through and all that he has gone through, you two have been together to survive it all. You are there to back each other up and support one another. I've read your letters, talked to mom and Melissa and Bill. I may be a guy and I may not have been around that often, but I can tell from what I've heard and read, that you two have more than "friend" feelings for each other. That is why Bill hates him so much. It isn't just that Mulder is your partner in a dangerous job, but because you two love each other. You are no longer that small, scrawny little red headed girl that use to follow us around. You are a mature woman who can take care of herself and somewhere along the line found a man who understands you and loves you for it. From all that I know, this Mulder is a good man. He has done whatever he could to help you and loves you. I just want you to be happy, if he does it than all the more better." "How in the world did you get so wise?" "Simple, I've had you as a role model. I love you sis and I know that life isn't perfect, no matter what Bill wants to think. I just want you to be happy, and I would also like to enjoy a nice holiday with my family. So do you think we could get out of here and try to not kill Bill tonight? I would like Ann to meet all of my family when she comes here for New Years." Scully laughed. "I will try but I am not making any promises." They got up and started walking back to the house. "Listen Charlie, thank you for listening and not judging too much." "Hey I am in no position to judge. Remember that I'm the one who had to choose between jail time and the Navy. I have no right to sit on a moral high ground." He hugged Scully. "I just want you to enjoy yourself and be safe. Well, as safe as you can be. Let's go and see what is left of Bill now that Mom and Tara have had some time alone with him." They started back to Bill's home. Mulder's Apartment Monday December 22nd 8 p.m. Eastern Standard Time Mulder laid down on his couch and tried to concentrate on the movie that was in his VCR. 'God why on earth do I watch these things again?' he asked himself. He had spent the day cleaning up his apartment, no small feat. 'I can't believe what I found in my fridge. Scully would have loved some of that stuff, she probably could have written a paper on it' he smiled at that thought. Now that his apartment was clean and he had nothing else to do he was bored and alone. The Gunmen had called him and tried to get him to join them on their trip to New York tomorrow, but he had declined. Skinner had told him in no such terms that he was not to set foot into the Hoover Building until after the New Year. "I don't want you anywhere near this building or me until you have Scully around. It is easier on my sanity and that of the whole bureau when you aren't left alone to your own devices," Skinner had said to him. 'Great, so now I'm alone, bored, and I can't even go to work and bury myself in the basement.' His mother had decided to spend the holidays at a resort in Switzerland to relax and the only other person that he wanted to be with was on the other side of the country. He thought of calling her, but decide that he didn't want to risk the chance of having to talk to Bill. 'Let's see, it's three days till Christmas, 9 till the New Year and I am stuck here going slowly out of my mind. I should have thought about getting this life sooner. At least then I would already have Scully's answer and I wouldn't be going nuts. I miss her. Why didn't I just ask her for an answer then and there? This wait is going to kill me, if I don't die from boredom I am going to have a heart attack due to stress and anxiety.' His thoughts were interrupted by a knock on the door. He got up and didn't bother to look at the peephole. When he opened the door he was surprised to see Diana Fowley standing on the other side. "Hi Fox," she said as she let herself into his apartment. She looked around the place and then turned to him. "Nice to see some things don't change. It's the holidays and you couldn't tell it from the looks at this place, unless you looked at a calendar." She sat down on his couch and patted it for him to sit by her. Mulder continued to stand. "What brings you by Diana?" Mulder asked. "I just wanted to make sure that you were okay. I know that the holidays aren't the best time of year for you and I wanted to see how you were holding up, especially since your partner's gone for the holidays." "I'm doing fine, just waiting for it to get over with so I can get back to work." "Yeah I heard that Skinner basically said you can't step foot in the building till Agent Scully is back to keep you in check," she smiled up at him. "Yeah that's what he said. I am in no way to go near Hoover until Scully is back. I just think that he wants to avoid me as much as possible because he knows once the New Year starts the game starts all over again." "And it is just killing you because you have nothing to do," she replied. She got up and handed him a small box from her coat. "I just wanted to stop by and give you this and wish you happy holidays. Try and relax and enjoy yourself, you've been through enough. If you get lonely or bored, call me. I'm doing the solo thing this year too. If you want we can get together, it doesn't have to be anything big, but I know how it gets especially when you start to think about Sam." She hugged him and Mulder was so thrown by her comment about Sam that he didn't protest. "Just call me or stop by if it gets too much, I remember how it was and you shouldn't have to go through that alone and since your partner went AWOL, I'll be here. Besides, it's the holidays and a New Year is coming. Since I no longer work on the X-Files and you have them back, maybe we can try and move on. See what can develop." She went to hug him again but Mulder stopped her. "Thanks for the concern Diana, but as I said before I've done pretty good without you and I plan to continue to do so," Mulder told her. She was taken back by his comment, but recovered quickly. "Well, at least I know that you're okay and that you're not wasting away here pinning for your partner. It's good to see that you learned that you can't mix business with pleasure," she said with a hint of hostility. "Some mistakes you should never make again," she said as she went to the door. She stopped right before she opened it. "If you do change your mind though, I'll have no objection to trying again," then she was gone. Mulder was livid by her actions and comments. Who in the hell did she think she was giving him advise on what to do and what not to do? He wasn't the one who left the country when things got a little tough. He wasn't the one who only decided to come back after things had died down and the X-Files finally began to get some respect. She only came back after all the hard work he and Scully had done had finally begun to pay off. Now she wanted to reap the benefits. And couldn't she just get it thorough her head that he didn't want her. If he didn't go jumping at the chance when she first came back to work on the Gibson Praise case and if he didn't want her back when she had the X-Files and he was stuck doing mundane cases, did she really think he would want her now that he had things back the way he wanted them. Especially since he had Scully by his side. God the ego of that woman never ceased to amaze him. 'Why in the hell did I marry her in the first place again?' he asked himself. He didn't need this aggravation right now. He had enough on his mind and didn't need Diana adding to it. 'I wish Scully was here so I could vent this out on her,' he thought. The problem was, Scully and her absence was the main cause of his frustration. This patience is a virtue idea is really a load of crap. 'How can anyone be patient when their life is hindering on one little answer?' he thought to himself. He brought himself out of his contemplation and decided that he needs a hot shower to relax. He pulled his sweater off and went to take off his T-shirt while he headed for the bathroom when the phone rang. "Mulder," he said when he picked it up. "You know you really are a piece of work there Fox boy," Bill Scully answered into the phone. Mulder groaned silently to himself when he realized that Bill was drunk and definitely not feeling any pain. "Hello Bill. Merry Christmas early. What can I do for you?" Mulder hoped that this would be a short conversation. "Oh nothing much. Except for the fact that you can tell my sister that I do not appreciate her yelling at me in my home and ruining the family holiday and that as far as I am concerned she is no longer welcomed here and that goes for the rest of us." Mulder tensed as he listened to Bill's words. 'What in the hell happened?' he thought to himself. "Listen Bill," Mulder said. "I am sure that you can tell Scully that herself when you see her tomorrow if she decides to talk to you. Why don't you just go lie down and sleep it off. I don't know what your problem is, but I don't want to be brought in the middle of it." "But you already are in the middle of it. Hell you're the cause of it. Because of you I've lost one sister. Almost lost the other one, had a niece I never knew of killed, my mother has spent way too many nights at the hospital. All because of you and your shit. This past few years have been tough on us all, but we have gotten through it all. Except for the fact that we can't seem to get past the little problem of you. So, I'm going to tell you now. The moment that you see Dana, you tell her that if she ever wants to be considered a part of this family, she will change her mind about moving out here and getting the hell away from you. If she continues as she is, not one of us will have anything to do with her." Mulder paused at his words. 'What the hell was going on here? What happened to make Bill call him and put an ultimatum on Scully in regards to her life?' His personal revere was interrupted when someone else came on the line. "Hello, who is this?" a male voice asked. "Um, this is Fox Mulder. Who is this and what is going on with Bill?" "Oh, you're the infamous Mulder. It's about time I finally got to talk to you." The voice answered. Mulder guessed it was Scully's other brother Charles. He was not ready to deal with another bashing from the other Scully brother. "Listen, I want to apologize for whatever Bill said to you. We didn't even know that he had left the room. We thought he was still passed out." "It's no trouble." "Don't even try and lie, I know Bill and a drunk Bill is an ass. He hit the Scotch a little too early and never stopped." "I guessed that he had a little too much holiday cheer. Hey, if you don't mind me asking, what's going on?" "Bill just decided to play the overprotective big brother role too far and got the shit knocked out of him when Dana hit him" Mulder laughed at the picture that flew into his head. "Excuse me, Scully hit him?" "Yeah, he was starting his shit again and she just had enough. Which was fine by me because I was about to deck him if she hadn't beaten me to it. She hit him about seven hours ago and left. We haven't seen her since then, but I don't think she'll be coming back tonight. Not that I blame her." There was a commotion in the background and Mulder could hear Bill still cussing him out. "Listen I have to go and take care of the idiot. If Dana calls you, can you let her know that we all are glad that she knocked him out and that we understand." "Sure I will. But I don't think it will do much good. Scully isn't coming back till after the New Year so you'll see her first." "I wouldn't be to sure about that. I am going to go now. It was nice talking to Mulder. Now I at least have a voice to go with the name and all the stories. Maybe one day I'll get a face with it too. Hold on a minute. My mother wants to talk to you." "Hello Fox," Mrs. Scully's voice came over the phone. "Hi Mrs. Scully, sorry to hear things aren't going so well over there." "Don't worry about it, you know Bill, and it wouldn't be a Scully holiday without someone making an ass of themselves. I just wanted to let you know no matter what Bill said don't believe him and make sure that Dana knows that nothing said tonight means a thing." "What exactly happened tonight Mrs. Scully? I've talked to a drunk Bill, a happy Charlie because Scully knocked Bill on his ass, and now a worried you. Did something happen, is Scully okay? He asked "She's fine Fox, are at least I think she is. I haven't seen her since she left. It's nothing for you to worry about. It's just a family thing." Mulder cringed at the last thought. Scully was his only family and he wanted to make sure she was okay. "Fox are you still there?" Mrs. Scully asked. "Yes I am." "I just wanted to make sure. If you talk to Dana let her know that everything is fine here and we are expecting her here for Christmas okay." "No trouble Mrs. Scully. You take care of yourself." "You too Fox," she hung up. Mulder hung his phone and stared at it. What in the world just happened? His thoughts were interrupted by another knock on the door. 'Lord what is going on. All I want to do is take a shower and go to sleep. Don't people have anything better to do than bug me.' He thought. He got up and went to the door ready to ready to get rid of his unwanted visitor. He got as far as an angry "what" before he realized the person on the other side of the door was Scully. "Sorry to bother you Mulder, but I saw your light was on and thought you'd be up. I'll let you go." She turned around to walk to the elevator, but Mulder caught her arm and brought her into his apartment. He took one look at her tired and red eyes and he knew that she had been crying. Before he could even think about, he picked her up in his arms and carried her to the couch. He sat down with her on his lap and held her while she started to cry again. She cried for almost half an hour, but when she realized that she was cutting off Mulder's circulation she stopped and tried to get off him. "No stay," he told her. He looked at her eyes and cupped her face in his hands. "You want to tell what happened? You're supposed to be in San Diego with your family, what are you doing back here?" Scully looked up at him. "Things didn't go exactly like we hoped. Bill and I had a fight and I had to get out of there and as far away from him. I'm sorry but this was really the only place that came to mind for me to go to." "Yeah I heard about the fight when he called me" Scully looked at him. "He called you?" "Yeah about 15 minutes ago, he was a little out of it so Charlie and your mom took over the call and they let me know what happened. What did you say to each other? It had to be something good for you hit him. You shot me and I'm just your partner, so to do that to a family member something big had to happen." Scully laughed at that and looked at him. "You don't want to know, it isn't something that you can change so why bother about it." Mulder wasn't convinced so he decided to push the issue. "Come on Scully, you fly across the country away from your family because of a fight with your brother. Something big happened and I want to know right now what the hell was said that has caused you to cry and makes me want to go and beat the shit out of your brother." Scully looked at him and decided that she might as well get it over with before he finds out from her family. So she started. End 4/13 No One But You 5/13 DenyTheTruth kelleigh@glasscity.net ---------------------- William Scully Residence 8 hours ago Scully and Charlie got back from their walk to find the house free of Bill. Margaret heard them come back and met her daughter at the door. "I am so sorry about all that Bill said honey. He just doesn't know when to shut up." "It's fine mom. He just has to realize I am not a kid anymore. Where is he anyway?" She asked as she put her coat away. "I don't know. I left him after you went out and haven't seen him since. He is probably sulking around here somewhere." Tara came out from the kitchen. "Hey guys, did you enjoy your walk? I hope you don't mind but I just began dinner and I could use some help." Dana walked with her sister into the kitchen. When she got there, Bill walked in through the back door with the empty Scotch bottle in his hand. "Bill please tell me you haven't been drinking," his wife asked him. "I just had a little to drink." He throws the bottle in the garbage. He walked into the living room and sat down next to Charlie. "Were you able to talk some sense into her? She and Melissa always seemed to listen to you more. It must be that little brother thing that makes them pay attention." Charlie looked at his brother and silently prayed for him to pass out. "Sorry Bill, but I didn't spend my time with Dana lecturing her about her life. Something that I have no right to do anyhow. I had to spend my time calming her down from your little escapade." "What are you talking about?" Bill asked. "Bill, just drop it ok. You're drunk and I am not all that thrilled with you right now so a discussion on our sister's life is not a good topic of conversation right now. Why don't you just go up to your room and sleep until dinner is done and then we try and calm things down here." "I can't believe you didn't say anything. Come on Charlie you have to back me up here. Mom and Dana are just so blind to what is going on here." "And what is going on here Bill? All I see is you making a complete ass of yourself and ruining the family holiday." "What the hell is that suppose to mean? I'm just trying to make us feel like a family. You're not around anymore to see what's going on!" Bill yelled at him. "William Scully Junior what in the world is going on in here?" Margaret asked as she came into the room. "Please try and keep your voice down, Mathew is resting and we don't need your neighbors knowing that you're making an ass of yourself." Scully and Tara came into the room. "Bill would you please keep it down," Tara said. "No I will not keep it down. I am not going to be told not to speak in my own home. I am in my every right to say whatever I feel like saying." "Just because you have the right doesn't mean you have to yell it," Charlie said. "Be quiet Charlie. You are in no position to tell me what to do. You've been gone from the family so long that you don't even know what has been going on. You weren't here when dad died, you weren't here when Dana was missing for three months, you weren't here when Melissa was killed and you sure as hell wasn't here last year when Dana was struggling with cancer." "Oh, don't even go there Bill," Scully said. "As my memory serves me you weren't around either. So don't even try and put a guilt trip on him. I hold no grudge against him because he had work. I feel the same way in regards to you. You two don't have jobs where you can easily call off on emergencies." "Did I say anything to you about me worrying about you having a grudge against me Dana? No I didn't. Right now I could care less what you think about me. If we are going to talk about jobs, then you are in no position to talk. Ever since the day you decided to join the FBI you have disappointed the family." "Bill shut up," Charlie said. "No Charlie it's the truth. Dad and mom weren't happy with your decision. All that time to took to go to medical school and you just threw it away to go play with a bunch of overgrown boys with guns. And ever since you joined those stupid X-Files and started following that idiot Mulder, you've conveniently forgotten about your family. Although somehow you have managed to get us involved in them, first Melissa is killed and then last Christmas is ruined with the news of your daughter. A daughter that you conveniently didn't even know about. Hell I bet you knew about her all along and only faked ignorance because she was Mulder's. I'm right aren't I?" he spat out. "Bill that is enough out of you!" Margaret said. "You will be quiet right now or so help me I will not responsible for my actions." "Don't go defending her mom. As Dana has stated quite frequently, she can take care of herself. She doesn't need anyone to stand up for her. I mean hell, even her precious partner keeps his mouth shut." "Can we please leave Mulder out of this?" Scully asked. "No, I am sorry Dana, but poor dysfunctional Fox isn't going to be forgotten. All though I wish to God that I could forget about him. But since you seem so determined on having him in your life, we are stuck with him. Problem is none of us want him. Why can't you just get it through your head that the guy is nuts? He has caused nothing but pain to you and this family. Hell, he fucked up his family so much he had to move onto ours." Charlie ran in front of his sister before she could get to Bill. "That's enough Bill. If you say one more thing I won't be held responsible for what I do." "Charlie get out of my way. This has nothing to do with you. This is between me and Bill." Scully moved away from Charlie and stood in front of Bill. "Alright Bill, I'm right here in front of you. Speak you piece, say everything that you have to get off your chest. Let's get this stupid drunken stupor over with so we can move on with dinner." "Don't try and order me around little sis. You're FBI status doesn't do you any good here. I'll do what I damn well please. But since you want me to let you have it fine. Right now as of this moment, you have got to come to a decision: you're precious little Mulder or the family. Because I am not going to allow him and his shit to bring anymore pain to this family. If you think that he and the work that you do is so important than so be it, but if so I don't want to anywhere near me or my family or mom and Charlie ever again." "William, don't you dare go and make ultimatums to your sister. Especially ones that aren't even wanted by us!" Margaret said. "No mom, this is the end of it. I am tired of all the crap that has happened to this family. We've all been through so much pain and suffering and I am fed up with it. I want things to get back to normal." Scully laughed at that comment. "Normal, you want things to get back to normal. Bill there is no such thing as normal. With all I've seen, this right here "us" is about as normal as things get. And that is pretty pathetic.' "Don't start in on your crap about all you've seen and experienced. You've only seen it because of your involvement with Mulder. If you would just stop thinking about yourself and your neediness of Mulder, you would realize that he is nothing but trouble for you." "Neediness. I did not just hear you say that. I do not need anyone." "Oh that's right I forgot. I'm talking to Dana. Little Miss Special Agent who can do just fine on her own-thank-you-very-much. What bullshit. You want to know what I realized while you were gone? I realized that the only reason you stay with Mulder is because he is more fucked up than you are." "Now you hold on Bill, don't you even start!" Charlie interjected. "No Charlie don't you start. It's true. Dana you are such a control freak. You always have to be the one in control, the one with the power. Mulder is so messed up; he has no idea where he is going. This means that you can direct him and tell him what to do. That's why you put up with all his shit. That's why Mom puts up with it too, because she knows that it makes you happy to be needed by someone. He is like a kid and you're his mother. Which I guess is good for you seeing that you'll never really have the chance to be a mother. But then again that it his fault too." "BILL!!" all three of the other Scullys yelled at him. Dana took one step away from him, pulled her arm back, and hit Bill straight in the face. Bill fell to the ground immediately and tried to get back up but Dana pushed him back down with her foot. "Don't you ever speak to me like that ever again. You have no right to pass judgement on my life. It's my business and what I do with it or who is in it is by my choice. As far as I am concerned as of this moment, my life and my family no longer consist of you. Until you apologize and can accept things the way they are I don't care about what happens to you!" She spat out and left the room to get her coat. Charlie and Tara grabbed Bill and helped him to the couch to lay down. Margaret went to follow Scully. "Mom, I am so sorry about this. I didn't mean for any of this to happen," she said as she pulled her coat on. Margaret walked over to her and hugged her. "Don't worry about it honey. Something was bound to give. You just get out of here and relax. We'll deal with Bill." "Dana." Charlie called as he entered the room. "You ok?" "I'm fine," she said as she wiped the tears from her eyes. "Bill's out cold and from the looks of it he will probably be so for a while. You gonna be ok?" he asked as he hugged her. "Yeah, I just have to get out of here and away for a while." Tara came in. "Dana, I am so sorry. I have no idea what in the world got into him," she said. "It's okay. Listen, I'm not going to come back for dinner so don't worry about me ok." "That's no problem. I'd like to get out of here myself right now, but I have to make sure Bill doesn't go off half cocked. You take care of yourself tonight and we'll see you tomorrow." She hugged her and then Scully left. Mulder's Apartment 10:30 p.m. "So, I left the house and just drove around for a while. Then I just decided that there was no way that I was going to be able to spend the holiday with Bill after all he said. That also meant that I couldn't spend it with mom, Charlie, Tara and Mathew. Since that meant there was no one in San Diego for me to be with I decided to come home. If I was going to be miserable, at least I could be miserable in my home with my TV and whatever 'Ben and Jerry's' flavor that is in my freezer." Scully stated as she ended the tale to Mulder. Mulder looked over at Scully and suppressed his urge to get on the first flight to San Diego and beat the shit out of Bill. "You know Scully, that's going to be a little tough." She looked at him and raised an eyebrow in question. "Before you left you cleaned your refrigerator out, remember? The only thing in there is a box of baking soda and a few cans of pop. So, no ice cream is there for you." Scully smiled. "Oh well, that just goes to make this holiday complete." She went to get up. "Mulder do me a favor." He nodded his head at her request. "I'm going home and crawling into my bed, maybe if I'm lucky there will be a bottle of some sort of liquor somewhere in my apartment and it can join me there. I'm going to bury myself in the covers and not come out till after the New Year. Have a good holiday and don't get in too much trouble." She grabbed her coat and got ready to leave, but Mulder grabbed her arm and stopped her. "I can't do that for you Scully," he said. "There is no way in hell I am going to be able to enjoy myself, especially after what you just told me Bill said to you. Your brother is very lucky for the fact that you're here and that I don't want you to spend the holiday alone. If you weren't here I'd be in San Diego and he'd be dead." He pulled her to him and hugged her. "I'm sorry that everything was ruined for you this year. I know you were excited about finally spending some time with your family." "Don't worry about it. I'm still spending it with my family, just not any blood relatives." She looked up at him and smiled. He smiled back at her and she stood on her toes to give him a brief kiss. She pulled out of his embrace. "What do you say we actually try to find some of this good holiday cheer? Christmas Eve, my place at five. You bring yourself and some movies, preferably something Frohike wouldn't like. And I'll supply the food and eggnog. That sound like a deal?" "Make it Bailey's or wine and I'm there" "Deal. I'll see you Wednesday evening then." She said as she left. Mulder walked over to his phone and dialed a number. "Hello," Tara answered. "Hello, Tara?" "Yes, who's this?" "This is Fox Mulder, Scully's partner" "Oh, hi there. I'm sorry about Bill's phone call earlier." "It's okay actually is he there?" "Yes, I just finally got him to pass out in the bed. Is there something wrong? "No, I just wanted to make sure I could talk without causing a scene. You guys wanted to know if I heard from Scully." "Yes, did Dana call you? Did she make it to the hotel okay?" "No she didn't call me, she went to the airport after she left your house and came back to D.C. She just left to go to her apartment and I thought I'd call and let you know that she was safe a that she wasn't going to be with you guys for Christmas and New Years." "Oh, I guess that's for the best. I don't want the holidays ruined just because Bill can't grow up. Hold on a minute." She covered the phone, but Mulder could still hear the question from Mrs. Scully about who was on the phone. "Fox, Maggie wants to talk to you, here she is." "Hello Fox, did Dana make it back safe?" "Yes she's fine. Just a little worn out emotionally from everything. I was actually worried about you. How you are holding up Mrs. Scully?" "I'm fine Fox." "Don't try that line, it doesn't work for Scully and it won't work for you either. I'm sorry that I caused troubles for the family." "Nonsense Fox, you did no such thing. Bill just has to realize that Dana is a grown woman and doesn't need anyone to look out for her. I'm just not happy that he upset her. Last year was bad enough for her, I was hoping this Christmas could have good memories to replace last year." "I'll see what I can do to appease that." "Thank you Fox, I'm going to go and help Tara finish with the dinner plates. You have a good holiday and take care of Dana." "I will, Mrs. Scully." Mulder was about to hang the phone up when he heard Charlie. "Mulder wait a minute," he said. "Yes Charlie?" "I just wanted to make sure that Dana was fine." "She is." "Is she still there?" he asked. "No she left, why?" "I just wanted to make sure that she was gone before I spoke with you. Hold on a minute while I go in to the other room for some privacy." There was a silence and then Charles came back. "Sorry about that, but I figured what I was going to talk to you about should be just between us." "What is it that you want to talk about?" Mulder sat down on his couch. "You and my sister." Mulder groaned. "Listen Charlie, I already know how one Scully brother feels about me, so I already know your opinion of me and I'm not up for another round of bashing." "Hold on there, I wasn't going to bash you. I just wanted to know what your intentions are." "My intentions?" Mulder sat up straight. This was not something he wanted to be talking about right now. Especially to Scully's brother. He wanted to at least know what Scully's stand was in regards to them before he had to face a family member. "I'm not sure I follow." "Sure you do. I talked to Melissa before she died and I heard how you were when Dana was missing. So, I know that you have feelings for her. Plus, me and Dana had a little talk earlier tonight about it." "What did you talk about?" "Nothing much just the fact that you two have been through enough that it is only natural that you would care for one another. Also that there isn't anyone else who would put up with either of you, so you're sort of stuck with each other." He chuckled. "I just want to make sure that Dana's feelings are reciprocated. She has been through enough and I just want her to be happy. Plus, I need to make sure that you are worthy of my defense when I tell Bill tomorrow that he better lay off our future brother-in-law if he wants to have any chance of attending the wedding." "Wedding, what do you mean? What did Scully tell you?" "So I was right then. This beautiful ring that I am holding in my hand did belong to Dana. I knew there was something she was keeping from me, but I couldn't figure it out." "What are you doing with the ring?" "Dana left in such a rush that she forgot it. I found it on the floor in the hallway before anyone else. She didn't tell any of us when she got in so that can only mean one of two things. Either she was afraid to tell us, which we both know isn't Dana. Or you asked her before she left and she never got the chance to answer you. I'm right aren't' I?" Mulder laughed. "I can definitely tell your Melissa's brother, you cut straight to the point like her." "That's just a Scully family trait. So, you asked my sister to marry you before she left to come out here. That wasn't very romantic. As her brother I have to tell you that I am not very impressed. She deserves candles, music and the full nine yards. As a guy, I have to say way to go on not getting all mushy. I went out all the way when I proposed to Ann and it still didn't come out right. I stumbled over the words and dropped the ring in the grass while I was trying to put in on her finger. Anyway, I just wanted to make sure I was correct before I ventured bodily harm when I talk to Bill about laying off of Dana and you." "You don't have to do that Charlie." "I know that I don't, but I am going to anyway. As a future member of this family you have to get use to us standing up and being there for each other. I'll be damned if I am going to have Bill harping on you and making Dana feel like shit because she loves you. He already ruined the holiday, I'm not going to let him ruin her engagement." "You sure you and Bill are brothers?" He laughed. "Yeah we are. Although sometimes I wish we weren't. By the way what's your address?" "Why?" "Well, you can't exactly be engaged to someone without the ring and it isn't doing any good here with me. I was going to Fed Ex it to you tomorrow so you can give her before she thinks that she lost it." "Yeah that would be a good idea. You got a pen?" He paused as he waited for Charlie to get a pen. "It's 2630 Hegal Place Apartment #42 Alexandria, Virginia 23242." "Got it. I should be able to get it out overnight tomorrow so you can give it back to her on Christmas Eve. Listen, Bill just came down. I'm gonna go and make sure that he doesn't start anything. Talk to you later Mulder and take care of my sister. You may have already experienced Bill, but when it comes to Dana I am ten times worse." He hung up the phone and Mulder did the same. 'Well, at least I got one Scully in my corner. Now all I have to do is get my Scully to accept my proposal,' he thought to himself as he headed for his long forgotten shower. End 5/13 No One But You 6/13 DenyTheTruth kelleigh@glascity.net --------------------- Dana Scully's Apartment Wednesday, December 24th 4:30 p.m. Scully was frantically running around her apartment trying to make sure that everything was fine before Mulder got there. "No everything is not fine," she said to the empty room. "Where the hell is it?" For the hundredth time she searched all the compartments and zippers of her coat and purse. "I can't believe this." She threw her stuff to the floor and sat on her bed. "I finally get a marriage proposal and what happens? I lose the ring." She looked up at the ceiling. "You know, if this is suppose to be a sign or something I don't appreciate it. I've been through so much this year and I don't enjoy having the one thing that is making it all worth while being dangled in my face just within my grasp." She laid down on her bed. "How in the hell am I suppose to answer Mulder if I don't have the ring? This is a great start, keep this up and I'm almost afraid to think what'll happen at the wedding. Man, this has got to be a conspiracy. Mulder finally decides to quit the games, I am more than happy to do the same and what happens? I lose the ring! I can't say yes and not have the ring to wear. I am not going to make it tonight. Maybe I should call him and tell him not to come over. He'll understand with everything that happened with Bill and all." She jumped up from her bed. "Bill!!!!!! Oh please don't let me have left it there and he found it. AHHHHH." She laid back on the bed and threw her face into the pillow. "That's it, this has got to be a conspiracy that's all there is to it. All I want to have a nice dinner, celebrate Christmas, and get engaged. Oh man, how am I going to get through this. There is no way that Mulder is going to forget about it, hell it's all I've thought about and I know my answer so I can't imagine what he's been going through." She removed her face from the pillow and looked back up at the ceiling. "You know Missy, now would be a good time for you to decide to haunt me. I could some help here. What am I going to do? I can't just tell Mulder I lost the ring. That isn't exactly the best way to boost a guy's confidence, and Mulder's needs all it can get. What am I supposed to say? Hey Mulder, remember that question that you didn't officially ask me before you left and that ring that you gave me? Well, I thought it over. Actually I had an answer for you the minute I saw the ring, but you left. Anyway, the answer is yes, but I can't wear the ring because I lost it. Yeah that's just a great way to start off an engagement, as if we don't have enough to worry about as it is." The oven started to go off in the kitchen and she left her room to go to the kitchen. She removed the chicken from the oven and started slicing it. "Well at least the meal will go along without any trouble. Now all I have to do is avoid the conversation. How do you avoid a marriage proposal without making it seem like you're saying no?" she asked as she sprinkled the chicken over the Fettuccini Alfredo. She placed the finished plates on the table and got the salad out of the fridge. "Let's see. We got the salad, the soup, the main course, and ice cream for dessert. Now if I had a certain ring this would be perfect. Stop it!" she told herself. "Dwelling on this issue is not going to make the ring magically appear before your eyes." She went into the living room to turn the stereo on. 'I wonder if I can just distract Mulder from asking. There are plenty of other things to do besides talk. I mean almost seven years together and one little kiss on the mouth. Now that's an idea. I'll just tell Mulder that I can't answer him until I've really kissed him. Got to make sure that the man I am going to spend the rest of life knows how to kiss. That can keep him occupied and away from the proposal for a while.' She finished with the music and sat on her couch. "Oh man. THIS SUCKS!!!! This is suppose to be one of the most romantic moments in my life and all I want is for Mulder to call me and say he isn't coming over. Hell, right now I'll even take a ditch for a new lead as long as I don't have to face him. There is no way I am going to be able to avoid this and I can't lie about it. That's no way to start this whole thing off. Thank God this year is almost over." She looked back up at the ceiling. "You have a really weird sense of humor and I don't find it one bit funny. IS IT TOO MUCH TO ASK FOR ME TO BE ABLE TO GET ENGAGED TO FOX MULDER, IT'S NOT LIKE I'M ASKING FOR MUCH JUST THE MAN I LOVE!!!!!!!!!!" she screamed and then slumped down in her couch. Outside Scully's Apartment 4:45p.m. Mulder stood outside Scully's apartment and listened to her one sided conversation, as he had been doing for the last fifteen minutes. "IS IT TOO MUCH TO ASK FOR ME TO BE ABLE TO GET ENGAGED TO FOX MULDER, IT'S NOT LIKE I'M ASKING FOR MUCH JUST THE MAN I LOVE!!!!!!!!!!" He laughed as he heard Scully dejectedly end her tirade. 'This could be interesting,' he thought as he fingered the box in his pocket. It had barely arrived at his apartment before he left and now he was glad that he had it. 'Poor Scully,' he thought. 'Going out of her mind and afraid of what to do. Maybe I should just tell her and not wait till after dinner.' He raised his hand to knock on the door, but stopped when he thought he heard her crying. 'Don't be silly Mulder, Scully rarely cries and this isn't something that she would over,' he thought. He continued to listen and realized that she was crying. 'Oh, this is not the way I wanted my marriage proposal to go. She's suppose to cry after I ask and she says yes, not before.' Scully continued her conversation and he listened. "Stop it Dana, this is suppose to be a happy evening. It's Christmas Eve and you're spending with the most important person in your life and your future family. You'll get through this just explain it to him and move on. You can call Bill tomorrow and ask about the ring. Tonight enjoy yourself and don't ruin Mulder's holiday, he has so few good memories of them to begin with." Mulder decided it was time to end her torment and knocked on the door. "Sorry, unless you're either Steven Spielberg or my most wanted basement spook no one's home," Scully's voice said with humor on the other side of the door. She opened the door. "Well then I guess I better go because I'm the FBI's most unwanted crazy spook," he said with a smile. He held out the bag from the video store and gave it to her as he entered the apartment. "I picked up five different movies. I figured all TV would have is the same old holiday stuff so I thought I'd make sure we had enough to get us through the night." He took his coat off and put it on her couch. "Smells good." "Thanks," Scully said as she put the tapes on the table. "Come on, I just put it down so it's still hot." They went into the kitchen and sat down. 5:30 p.m. With the dishes in the dishwasher and the table cleaned, Mulder and Scully moved into the living room. "What do you want to watch first?" Scully asked as she went to retrieve the movies from the bag. " How about Godzilla?" Mulder answered. Scully pulled the tape out of the bag. "You didn't seriously get that did you? Mulder, I spend enough time chasing monsters at work, I don't need to watch a movie about one of them during my vacation. Besides, it's the holidays and you're not actually mopping around, that is enough of an X-File for me as it is." She smiled at him and put Lethal Weapon 4 into the VCR. She sat down next to him and he grabbed the video box from her and examined it. "Scully, you get on me about wanting to watch a movie about a giant lizard, but you go and put in the movie about law enforcement. I get enough of that at work and don't want to watch it on my vacation." "Then you shouldn't have rented it if you didn't want to watch it. This is my place, my VCR, and my couch. You complain, the door's over there don't let it hit you on your ass on the way out." She tried to duck and miss the pillow that was thrown at her, but she was too late. "I know I chose it Scully. I was the one at the video store, remember? The only reason I got it was because I know you love Mel Gibson and thought I would let you get a little drool fest to help bring you holiday cheer." "If you wanted to do that for me you should have just brought the real thing. That is a gift I wouldn't have minded." "Sure, I have about as much a chance to getting you Mel Gibson as Skinner has of getting his hair back. "Hey I think he looks fine bald. Besides, he has only lost most of his hair since you started reporting to him." This time she was able to duck in time. "Keep it up young lady. Remember I am your superior and as I recall you report to him also. I am sure some of the hair that falls in his sink is due to you also." "Sure, Fine, Whatever." "That's it. Three years of that line is enough." He grabbed her and began to tickle her. Scully tried to escape, but only ended up pulling them down on the floor. Mulder was on top of her still tickling at her stomach. "Stop it Mulder." She said between laughs. "Come on, uncle. I promise no more jokes about that movie collection that isn't yours." "You better stop while you're only a few feet behind Scully and not digging yourself into a ditch. You're only making things worse for yourself. Come on, I'll stop when you promise to never use that line again. Say it." "Sure, Fine, Whatever." Scully laughed at Mulder's expression but stopped when he picked her up off the floor and tossed her over his shoulder. "Mulder put me down. If you drop me I swear to God I will make that scar on your left shoulder look like a paper cut. And remember I am a doctor." "Yes, but you're a pathologist." "Exactly, just imagine what I know that can cause so much pain and kill you slowly." Mulder put her back down on the ground. "Okay I can take a hint. All you had to say was Mulder put me down." "I did say that, but some where in your he-man skull it didn't compute." "He-man skull. You have to pay for that comment." Scully ran out of his arms reach and sat back down on the couch. "Come on Mulder we're missing the movie." "So, like you haven't already seen it already. You dragged me to see it when it was at the theater." "You weren't complaining, besides I paid for it and it got you out of your apartment so don't start." "Me complain never." He sat down next to her. "You are aware Scully, that this has to be the most pathetic way of spending the holiday. Watching movies." "Excuse me, I happen to be enjoying this. I have had a good dinner, great conversation, I have Mel Gibson on my TV, and up until about a few minutes ago I thought I had good company. I'm sorry if this doesn't meet with your standards of holiday cheer." "I didn't say I wasn't enjoying myself. It's just it is the holidays and you are suppose to spend it with family." Scully laughs at that. "Well, I don't know about you, but with my family is the last place I want to be. Now, if you want to go and spend the holidays with Bill go right ahead and be my guest." "No thank you, I've had enough of my own family holidays where I am yelled at and blamed for every travesty that has happened. I don't need new memories added to it." "I'm sorry about that Mulder." Scully hugged him. "I forgot that despite all I think of my family, we're the Waltons compared to yours." Mulder hugged her more and brought her onto his lap. "Don't worry about it. Now, lets just relax enjoy the movie and watch a pair of partners who make us look normal." Scully laughs. "Mulder, I don't think anyone could make you or me look normal let alone us together." She moved to get off of him but he kept her where she was. "Stay, you're warmer than a blanket." "I'm so glad that I come in useful for you." She snuggled in closer and they watched the movie. When the movie was over Mulder got up to stretch his legs and Scully went into the kitchen to pop some popcorn. "You see Scully," Mulder said as he came in the kitchen to grab two beers from the fridge. "Compared to Riggs I'm not so bad a partner. I'm not gun crazy like him and don't have as many scars and bullet wounds." "True, but your number of hospital stays cancels out his scars and your conspiracy crazy. So if I had to choose a partner, I'd take Riggs. He has a cute butt and great sense of humor." "Hey I have a fabulous sense of humor." "Yes for a garbage dumpster." "Hey let's leave my apartment out of this." He handed her a beer and grabbed the bowl of popcorn away from her. "Come on, you got your fill of Mel Gibson, I want my monster." He walked into the living room and Scully followed him. "I still can't believe you got this." "Why? Godzilla is a true classic." "Yes, old Godzilla is. But this new version sucked. I'm sorry but when I watch Godzilla I want to see lips that are out of sync with the dialogue and puppets. Not high tech effects. It's not the same." She took a drink of her beer. "It's the same as the remakes of Hitchcock's movies. Some things are just better left not brought into the 21st century. Leave the classics alone." "My, my aren't we just the little Siskel and Ebert. Do I take it that you give Godzilla two thumbs down then?" "You can take it anyway you want to." She grabbed a handful of popcorn and settled down to watch the movie. Mulder pulled her over to lean on him, but instead she laid down and used his lap as a pillow. "If I have to watch this insult of a movie to a true classic with you, the least you can do is be my pillow," she said to him with a smile. He returned the smile. "Well it's the least I can do since you fed me and are letting me spend Christmas Eve with you." He started stroking her hair and they started to watch the movie. Halfway through Godzilla, Mulder noticed that Scully was out like a light bulb. 'She looks like an angel. So peaceful and safe, I just wish I could keep her like this while she is awake,' he thought. He leaned down and kissed her forehead. 'My sweet angel, my savor. What would I do without you? Go out of my mind or be dead by now. You don't just make me a whole person; you are my second half, my soul mate, my love. Now, all I got to do is get you to accept all that I have to offer to her and have her say the same thing to me.' He smiled at his next thought, 'Most people would be happy with the knowledge that the woman they love, loves them back and wants to marry them, but not me. I just have to push it forward and have her say it out loud to me. I want all those walls gone before I will move this thing further. Just how to do it. Poor Scully, she's been nervous all evening, worrying about the ring. I really should just let her know I have it and ease her mind.' Scully started to stir and then she buried herself more in Mulder's lap. 'A dream come true here right within my reach. I just have to make sure that it doesn't turn into a nightmare.' Mulder pulled the ring out of his pants pocket and looked at it. 'I've had this thing for four years. It has spent more time in my hands late at night then my wedding ring from Diana spent on my finger. I think it is about time that it went to its rightful place.' He looked down at Scully's sleeping form and thought the best way to do this. 'Well there's always the traditional approach of getting on one knee and asking. But then again I have never done anything normal or in the traditional way. Besides that would mean getting up and I'm quite happy with the position that Scully is in." A loud explosion came from the movie and woke Scully up. She was confused at first, but then she remembered where she was at and started to get up. Mulder stopped her. "Stay." She stayed. "How long was I out?" "You've been asleep for about an hour." "You see, there's the scientific proof that this movie sucks. I never fall asleep during a good movie." "No, but you do fall asleep during stakeouts so that doesn't prove anything." Scully smiled at that. "Listen I think there is something that we need to talk about." "What?" Mulder reached for the remote and turned the movie off and then the TV. "Your family, or more importantly your brother Bill." Scully got up from the couch and stretched her legs. "Why do we have to talk about him. I was having a perfectly fine holiday without thinking about him and his stupidity." She went into the kitchen to grab a snack. Mulder followed her into the kitchen. He got the tea from the cupboard and got the cups ready while Scully put the kettle on the stove. "I'm getting the munchies. Do you want anything Mulder? I'm going to make me a sandwich." "No, I'm fine." He sat down at her kitchen table while she set about making her sandwich at the counter. "Scully, you know we really are going to have to talk about this and deal with it." "Deal with what Mulder?" She asked keeping her back to him. "Bill and his lack of love for me." She stopped making her sandwich and hung her head down. "Listen Mulder, I've already had Bill ruin my holiday with my family. I really don't feel like having him ruin my holiday with you. So, let's just drop it." "Well, I can't just drop it Scully. I've been thinking about it since you came to my apartment from the airport. Hell, I've been thinking about it since you went into remission." He got up from the table and walked over to her and turned her around. "Your brother thinks I'm an ass. He blames me for all that has happened to you in the last six and a half years." He stopped her before she could interrupt. "And you know what, I use to believe that too. But after beating myself up enough and having you tell me over and over again that it isn't, I've realized your right. You joined the FBI and knew the risks you were taking. You've stayed with me and the X-Files despite all that has happened. It has been your choice and all that has happened has been because of "Them"." Scully smiled at his realization. "Yes Mulder can learn and move on, must be an X-File in itself." They both laughed. "But just because I understand it doesn't mean that Bill does. He either is going to have to learn this or just get over his hatred of me. Because I am not going to have him continue to make you feel like shit because of your involvement with me. Especially after he learns that we're going to be married. I plan on giving you the beautiful wedding that you deserve and that requires all your family there, but I will not allow him to ruin it with his pig headedness. So I am sorry Scully, but we are going to talk about Bill and what we are going to do about him." Scully was silent as all that Mulder said started to soak in. The kettle starts to go off and Mulder makes the tea. "Come on, let's take this back to the couch." He took the two teacups and headed into the living room. Scully was right behind him and sat beside him on the couch. He handed her the other cup. They were silent for a while until Scully finally decided to break it. "So, Mulder do I take it that all that happened back there in the kitchen was my second marriage proposal? Because you know if it is, you've done the impossible and topped yourself. I thought your first one right before my mom came here was out of the ordinary, but that one tops it. Just makes me wonder, since you've gone the nontraditional route. Does that mean that I get to also? I mean we are always on the same wavelength, well most of the time. So why change it now? But then that would mean I wouldn't give the answer of yes or no. I would have to not answer you, but then I don't think you'd stand for that." "Well, you know Scully you don't have to worry about the nontraditional aspect on your part because you've already done it." Scully looked at him, "What do you mean?" He put his cup down on the table. "Well, I'm no expert on marriage proposals, but I am guessing that it isn't very common for the girl to lose the ring." "How, how do you? What are you talking about?" He pulled the ring out of his pocket and gave it to her. She took the ring and studied it like it was a piece of evidence and then smiled at him. "I called your mom after you left Monday night, to let her and the others know that you were safe. Charlie spoke to me after everyone else was done. He wanted to have a little talk and learn of my intentions towards you before he went and defended his future brother-in-law to Bill. He found the ring on the floor near where you coat was after you left. He mailed it to me and I got it this afternoon." He took it from her and held it in front of her eyes. "Now, you know I have had this ring for four years and have never lost track of it. Now that is a first for me. I mean just ask accounting about my guns and cell phones. But you get this ring and can't even keep it for a week. You know that isn't a very good sign to start things off with." He smiled at her and got up from the couch. He moved the coffee table away from the couch and knelt down on one leg in front of Scully. He took her left hand, "Scully, will you please do me honor of becoming my wife?" Scully's hand started to shake and she tried to answer but nothing will come out. "You know, this is the only time you are going to get me to do something traditional or normal, so you better take it while you can get it. Now, you want to officially become Mrs. Spooky and have the whole bureau wonder how nuts you really are or are you going to leave me out on this limb by myself?" "Yes," she whispered out. "Yes?" he repeated. "Yes, yes I will marry you." Mulder placed the ring on her hand and Scully hugged him and started crying again. "Hey." Mulder pulled out of the hug and looked at her. "Hey sweetie, it's okay don't cry." He wiped her tears away. "Besides, when you tell your mother and Skinner there'll be enough tears. And when Frohike finds out, it will be like a monsoon." They both laughed at that. He grabbed her face in his hands. "Are you sure? I mean, are you ready for all that this is gonna involve? Your family especially Bill, the bureau, the Consortium, all the gossip that's going to go around. You sure you're ready for it all?" "Mulder, I've been dealing with all that for almost seven years. This won't be anything new. Well, except this time I can just say 'watch it or I'll have Mulder kick your ass'. This isn't gonna change anything." "But you're wrong Scully." He picked her hand up and held it in front of her face. "This changes everything Dana. No more games, no more fine line to walk. This also means no more 'I'm fine' and no more closing yourself off." She grabbed his hands. "That means the same for you. No more games, no more secrets, and no more ditching me. Because if you do, it isn't just your partner your ditching it's me your wife. I won't tolerate. We go into this same as always, equal partners. You agree?" "Yes, 50/50. Keep nothing from each other." He leaned into her and placed a soft kiss on her lips. He started to pull back but she stopped him. "Where do you think you're going? I've waited six and a half years for this. That is not going satisfy me." She went in to kiss him, but stopped. "Mulder?" "Yes." "Can I call you Fox when we aren't at work?" He smiled at her. "You can call me anything you want, within reason. Don't even think about giving me one of the stupid lovey names like 'honey cakes' or 'sugar plum'." "This from the man who just called me 'sweetie'." "I said stupid names. "Sweetie' isn't stupid, besides since the day you woke up from your coma you have been my Scully. But I didn't think you would appreciate me calling you that." "Your Scully huh? Well, I guess that is appropriate since I have thought of you as mine since New Mexico. So, I can call you Fox and get away with it now?" "Yes, you can call me Fox whenever you like at work or home, it doesn't matter." "I'll stick with Mulder at work. Old habits die-hard. Besides, calling you Fox is so weird. I'll just use it as my term of endearment for you. Mulder is who you are and who I fell in love with." "Well then, I'll call you Dana as my term of endearment." "Good because I hate that 'sweetie' stuff. It just isn't us. Now, I enough of this." She took his face in her hands. "Fox, I have known that I have loved you for three and a half years and probably loved you in some way since the first moment that we met. I have put six and a half, almost seven years of hard work into you, now I want to start getting my payback. So kiss me, and you better make sure it is good or I'll shoot you again." "Yes mame." End 6/13 No One But You 7a/13 DenyTheTruth kelleigh@glasscity.net ---------------------- Mulder slowly leaned in and placed a soft, tender kiss on Scully's lips. She opened her mouth as a silent invitation and he gladly accepted it. He traced his tongue along her bottom lip before he finally invaded her mouth. Scully's tongue met his own and all the years of built up tension and bottled up emotions came out. Scully ran her fingers through Mulder's hair to help keep him in place. Mulder placed his hands in Scully's hair and brought her down off of the couch and onto the floor with him. Scully straddled his lap and removed her lips from Mulder's. She straightened up and took the opportunity to look down at Mulder. Mulder opened his eyes, silently questioning her about why she stopped. "You are so beautiful Mulder." Her fingers started to trace along his face. "Your face is one of the most beautiful things that I have ever seen." She moved her fingers to his lips. "Do you know how many times I have just become lost in thoughts of your lips?" He raised one of his brows in response. "Yes, there have been so many times, when you're talking to a witness, when you're giving a report to other officers, or when you're spouting off about some way out there theory, or just sitting at your desk eating some sun flower seeds. I just focus on your lips and everything else just falls into the background." She cupped his face; "you are my 'Venus DeMilo'." She leaned down and brushed her lips against his forehead. "I love your mind and all those crazy thoughts that come from it." Her lips moved to place kisses on his eyelids. "Your eyes are the most gorgeous things I have ever seen. They are so expressive and fragile." Mulder opened his eyes and continued to look at her. "Like right now they are a so hazel, with just a tint of darkness. Through your eyes I can easily tell what you're thinking or how you're feeling. Right now you're wondering 'What did I do to deserve this beautiful woman who loves me so much'?" She leaned down and gave him a kiss on the lips and then started to trail kisses to his left ear and then she whispered. "I'll tell you what you did. You opened your mind and gave me your trust one stormy night in a run down motel room in Oregon." She moved back up and grabbed his hands and placed them over her heart. "That night you began to work your way into here. The trust that you placed in me that night was what kept me from running away and telling Blevins that you were a crazy spook. I love you with all my heart and all that I am. There isn't anyone else that I would want to be with. Well, if Mel Gibson left his wife and came knocking on my door you would have some competition then." Mulder smiled up at her and flipped her over so that he is on top of her. "You think so. Well then I guess I'm going to have to erase any ideas you have of getting rid of me." He leaned down and captured her lips in a passionate kiss. He ran his hands along her face and started to trail kisses to her ear. "You want to know something?" "What?" Scully asks breathlessly. "Do you know how wonderful I feel when I am with you? It doesn't matter if we're in the office writing a report or in a meeting or in a car. Whenever I am around you, I feel safe. I know that I have you there to cover my back. I know that I have your trust." He pulled away from her and looked her directly in the eye. "But all of those things pale in comparison to what you just said. Hearing you say that you love me and having you here in my arms right now, nothing could top that. I love you and you are so much a part of me. I can't even think where I stop and you begin. You've been my heart for so long. Without you I wouldn't be half of the man I am right now. You kept me grounded, brought me back when the dark threatened to engulf me; you've made me who I am today. There isn't a single thing that I wouldn't do for you, except walk away. I love you and you're my soul, there is no way I will never give you up." "Oh Mulder." Scully grabbed his head and brought it back down for a forceful kiss. Mulder opened his mouth and Scully quickly plunged her tongue into it. They both moaned at the contact of their tongues. Mulder bit her lower lip and Scully whimpered at the sensation. Then he started to suck and lick at it to ease the pain. Scully started to run her hands away from his head and traveled down his back. She moaned at the feel of his muscles as he responded to her touch. Mulder grabbed her hands and entwined their fingers together. He brought them back up to the side of her head and broke from the kiss. He started to kiss his way down her neck and started to suck at the spot where her neck meets her shoulder. Scully giggled, "Mulder what are you doing? That tickles." Mulder laughed at the sound of her giggling. "I'm trying to memorize the taste of you. Well, that and I'm trying to mark my property." "Oh, so I'm your property now am I. Well, take a look at my left hand. I think that did the job of saying back off she is someone else's." "Yes but I'm having more fun this way. So be quiet and stop talking. I'm trying to concentrate here." He went back to sucking her neck and Scully started to groan. He left her neck and made his way to her left ear. "I love that sound. I can't wait to find out what other ways I make you make that sound again." Scully groaned again in response and grabbed Mulder's lips with her own. Scully tried to free her hands from Mulder's, but he wouldn't let go. Scully wanted to touch him and feel his body. She moaned in protest against his mouth and tried to free her hands from him again. This time he let go of her hands. Scully quickly took advantage of her freedom and her hands went straight to his head and she pulled his lips even closer to hers, trying to merge with him. Mulder moaned in response to her forceful moves and ground his body into hers. Scully gasped as she felt his erection pressed into her stomach. She wanted to feel more of that. She wanted to feel all of Mulder. Her hands left his head and went down to his back. She tried to pull his shirt out from his jeans, but Mulder stopped her. She broke away from the kiss with a question in her eyes. "Not like this," was all that he said. Scully tried to tell him that right now she didn't care where they were at, but before she could say anything he was off of her. He pulled her up off the floor and kissed the top of her head. She tried to get him to kiss her again, but he evaded her lips. When she raised her hands to pull his head down to hers, he took her arms and wrapped them around his neck and then he bent down and picked her up. Scully yelped a little at the surprise change in her position. Mulder carried her into her bedroom. End 7a/13 No One But You 7b/13 NC-17 part DenyTheTruth kelleigh@glasscity.net ----------------------- Mulder entered her bedroom and carried her over to the bed. He slowly let her down onto the floor. Scully kept her body pressed close to his as she slipped down his body. When she was back on the floor, she raised her hands back up to his face and pulled him down to kiss her again. They continued to kiss like for what seemed like an eternity. Scully was the first to break the kiss. She had to feel his skin under her hands. Her hands went to where his shirt was tucked into his pants and started to pull it out. Mulder realized what she was doing and started to pull his shirt off his body, but Scully stopped his hands where they were at and put them back down to his sides. She then placed her hands under his shirt and started to massage the skin under it. She could feel his chest and stomach muscles quivering under her touch and she smiled at that realization. Mulder couldn't think of anything else that had ever felt so good as Scully's hands on his body. No matter how many injuries of his that she tended to, each time she touched him he felt like he was on fire. He had to touch her too. He moved his hands from his sides brought them up her hair. He ran his fingers through the auburn mass and closed his eyes. He listened as she moved her hands over his body and inhaled the smell of her and the room. He always loved her smell, it was one of his small guilty pleasures, but whenever he got the chance he would invade her personal space so he could inhale her fragrance. Not even the smell of Detective White in Comity could come close to the personal heaven he got when he smelled Scully. Soon, Scully was tired of just touching his chest; she wanted more. She removed her hands from under his shirt and started to move the shirt up his body. Mulder moved his hands from her head and helped her get his shirt off. Scully threw the shirt behind Mulder and then her hands were back on Mulder's body. She moved closer to him and pressed her head up against his chest. So few times she was able to do this; she loved the feel of his chest against her head. She listened to his heartbeat and ragged breath that matched her own. She started to plant small kisses all along his chest in the area near his heart. Mulder closed his eyes and his hands went back into her hair to press her closer to him. Scully started to trail kisses along his chest and stopped as she reached his right nipple. She flipped her tongue against it and Mulder's breath caught in his throat. Scully smiled at that and then her whole mouth was covering all of it. She alternated between sucking and licking at it. Mulder's hands could no longer stay idle; they traveled down her back and pressed her even closer to his body. He could feel her breast up against his chest and he pushed his lower body into his. They couldn't be close enough to each other. He wanted them to be one, he wanted it to get to the point where he couldn't tell where he ended and she started. His hands went to the small of her back and he pushed them down into her pants. Scully stopped his hands and pulled away from him. She looked up at him and she saw his hazel eyes were no longer hazel. They were dilated and dark with desire. She knew hers matched what she saw. She pushed Mulder down onto the bed and covered his body with hers. She took his hands and placed them up at the top of his head. She kept them captured in hers and turned her attention back to his chest. This time her mouth went to his left nipple and she started to give it the same attention that she had his right. Mulder tried to free his hands from her grip, but she wouldn't let him go. Scully slowly started to work her way back up his chest and neck. She ran kisses along the right side of his face to his ear. When she reached her destination she started to lick along the edges of his ear. Mulder groaned, partly out of pleasure and partly out of frustration, at the attention his ear was getting. "You know Scully, you've always said I never listen to you. So why are you paying so much attention to my ear, when you know it isn't doing any good? There are plenty of other places where you could be putting your tongue to good use." Scully laughed at his comment and stopped her manipulation of his ear. She let go of his hands and sat up. Mulder took advantage of the release of his hands pulled Scully back down to his face. "You are a cruel woman, you do know this? For the last six and a half years I have had to be happy with my hand at the small of your back and an occasional hug. Now, I finally get the chance to touch you and you hold my hands down." He quickly flips her over so that he is hovering over her. "Oh no, that will simply not do Agent Scully." Scully started to giggle at Mulder's comment. "Oh, so now you want to laugh. Well, I am sorry to disappoint you, but the only sounds that I want to hear coming from your mouth are either moans of pleasure or my name. I guess I will just have to do something to get those sounds out of you." Before Scully could respond, Mulder brought his mouth down hard on hers. As he kissed her, his hands started trailing down the side of her body. He brought them back up to the top of her blouse and started to unbutton it. He tore his mouth away from hers and started trailing kisses along the skin under her blouse as it became exposed to him. Scully's hands flew to Mulder's head and urged him to continue what he was doing. Mulder drew his head away from her hands and pulled away from her body. Scully whimpered at the loss of contact and tried to bring him back down but Mulder fended off her desperate hands. "Don't worry, I'm not going anywhere." He started moving her blouse down her arms. "But it is a little tough to remove your shirt when there is no room to operate." He pulled her blouse off of her and admired her breasts through her black lace bra. Scully's drew her arms up around Mulder's neck and brought him back down to her mouth. They both moaned at the contact of their skin against each other. Mulder moved away from her mouth and brought his lips down to surround her left breast through the bra. "Ohh, Mulldeer," Scully said. She started moving her hands up and down along his back to press him closer to her body. Mulder rocked his lower body against hers in response and Scully could feel his erection through his jeans. She moved her hands to his head and brought his head back up to hers. Mulder went to kiss her, but she shook her head no. "What?" Mulder asked. She took his preoccupation as her chance to switch positions and she flipped them over. Once she was on top of him she started to trail kisses down his chest and ran her hands all over his shoulders. "I love the smell and taste of you," she said as moved down to his stomach. Mulder continued to rub his hands up and down her back. "I have never been able to place what exactly it is, but no matter where I am at I can sense it and tell when you are in the room." She dipped her tongue into his belly button and Mulder giggled. "Are we ticklish there Mr. Mulder? Well, I will have to remember that little piece of information for future reference." She stopped talking as she reached the zipper to his jeans. Instead of taking her hands way from their exploration of his upper body, she used her teeth to undo the button and then slowly dragged the zipper down. Mulder's hands stopped their motion as he watched Scully in fascination. Scully started to pull his jeans down his legs. She made quick work of his shoes and socks and then she tossed his pants in the same direction. When she had them off she decided to sit and look at him. "What's wrong?" Mulder asked. "Nothing's wrong, I'm just admiring the view. Everytime I have you in this type of situation you're either going into shock or unconscious. It's nice to see you like this when you're fully awake and aware of your surroundings. Makes my work a whole lot easier." She said with a smile as she bent down to kiss him again. "Oh, believe me," he said as he kissed her. "I am totally aware of my surroundings, or more importantly who I am waiting to surround me." He said against her lips. "Well then, who am I to keep you waiting." She said as she slid back down his body. When she reached his boxers, she didn't take them off as Mulder was hoping she was going to do. Instead she rubbed her chest against his groin and proudly smiled at the groan that escaped Mulder's lips. Mulder closed his eyes and started to bite his lower lip. "My, my Agent Mulder. Where do I begin? So many wonderful possibilities, I just don't know where to start. Let's see here." She moved her hands down to his boxers and slowly drew them down his legs. She threw them over with the rest of their clothing. She slowly made her way back up his body, making sure that she kissed every inch of his legs that she came in contact with. When she finally returned back to her previous position, she stopped for a moment to catch her breath. He was beautiful, no not beautiful, exquisite. That was the only thing she could think of to describe what she saw. The sight of Mulder on her bed was a great one, but the sight of a naked and at full attention Mulder was a religious experience. Scully silently sent a pray up to GOD for giving them the good sense to quit the games and move on. Scully brought her left hand up to his chest and started to massage the area. Her right hand went to Mulder's shaft and started to slowly stroke him up and down. Mulder brought his hands up to her headboard so he had something to hold onto, loving the feeling of Scully's hands on his body. Scully withdrew her hand from Mulder's length and he made a grunt of discomfort from the loss of contact, but his sounds died on his mouth when he felt her drag her tongue slowly across his tip. His hips jerked at the sensation. Scully continued to lick him up and down. She watched in fascination as Mulder kept his eyes closed, but his face changed with the movement of her tongue. She gave one last lick across his tip and then he was in heaven. That was the only way he could describe it. His eyes sprang open and he lifted his head to look down at her. 'Dear God if this is a dream I don't ever want to wake up,' Mulder thought as Scully took him into her mouth. The feel of Scully's lips around him was better than anything he had ever felt. It knocked all his fantasies on their asses. 'Nothing should feel this good,' he thought to himself. Scully brought her mouth up and down Mulder slowly each time taking him in a little farther than before. When she finally had all of him in, Mulder's hips jumped up from the bed of their own accord. His eyes rolled to the back of his head and his hands flew from her headboard and grabbed the sheets of her bed. Scully increased the speed and pressure of her mouth. She could feel Mulder's muscles tensing under her tongue and she knew he was close. "Ohh...God Scully. Ummm, yeah uhhhh." Mulder was amazed he was able to get anything intelligent to come out of his mouth. His brain was clouded over with arousal and he knew that he was close. He brought his hands down to her head trying to let her know he was close, but she just shook them off and held them down at his side with her own. Scully drew her mouth away from Mulder's body and looked up at him. "Mulder open your eyes." He opened his eyes and looked at her. "Don't hold back. I want all of you. I want to feel what I do to you and I want to taste you. I want to be able to just close my eyes and remember the sight, sound and taste of you as you come in my mouth." She moved back up to his mouth and kissed him hard. "Just let go, give me everything you have." "You already have it," he said back to her hoarsely. Scully moved back down and took him into her mouth again and Mulder's eyes closed again. She released his hands and both of them went straight to her head. He tried to just relax and just feel her hair in his hands, but the way that her mouth was working him was too much. He started to pump his hips up into her mouth and his hands increased pressure on her head. "Sculllliiiieee, ohhhhh yeah like that. Right there, that's it. Oh GOD!!!!!!!" The rest of his thoughts were cut off as he came in her mouth. Scully took in every drop of him that she could get and kept him in her mouth while he came back down and relaxed. When she could tell that his breathing was under control, she released him from her mouth and she slowly licked him to make sure she got everything. Mulder opened his eyes and moved his hands from her head so he could grab her by her arms and brought her back up his body. He cradled her head against his chest and he stroked her hair. "I love you," he whispered in her hair. She smiled and kissed his chest. "I love you too," she said back to him as she moved up to give him a quick kiss on his lips, but Mulder had other ideas. He flipped her under him and smiled down at her. "You know something that I just realized Agent Scully?" he asked as his fingers traced her face. "What Agent Mulder?" she teased back at him. "For a partnership that is suppose to be 50/50, it looks to me like it's more 80/20 in my favor. This simply will not do" "Well, what are we going to do to fix it?" "We are not going to do anything about it." He ran his tongue along her lower lip until she opened her mouth and let him in. He kissed her passionately and felt himself getting aroused again. He broke away from the kiss and looked down at her. "You, seem to have too many clothes on there. This will not do at all." He moved his hands from her face and went down to her back where the clasp to her bra was. He bent down to kiss her neck and shoulders and quickly unhooked her bra. He rose up from her body and looked at her while he removed the bra. He was mesmerized by what he saw. "Scully," he said in a low whisper. "Yes Mulder?" she asked. He looked up at her and saw the anticipation and lust in her eyes. She was waiting for him. She was now letting him in control. He reached both of his hands out and massaged her breasts. Scully's breath caught in her throat and she closed her eyes as his hands continued to move over her body. "You are the most beautiful thing I have ever seen." Scully opened her eyes and looked up at his. She had been afraid that when this moment finally came that she would fall short of his expectations. In all their years of partnership, the types of women that he went out with were nothing like her. They were all tall, leggy, and never drove him up the wall asking for proof. She could feel the tears welling up in her eyes as Mulder's eyes and hands raked over her body, memorizing every little detail. Mulder moved down to place a kiss in the center of her chest and then he moved down the rest of her body. He kissed every part that he came into contact with. When he reached her pants, he tried to remove them slowly, but he could smell her arousal and it only enflamed him more. He quickly removed her shoes and socks so he could help her lose her pants. Mulder pulled her pants away from her feet and tossed them to the floor. He looked up and forgot how to breathe for a few seconds. He had his own masterpiece right in front of him. 'Michelangelo and DaVinci could never have envisioned this,' he thought to himself as he drank in the sight of Scully. His hands traced over her calves and legs. "I love your legs. They may not be as long as others are, but they are perfect. Not too long and not short." Scully snorted at that comment. "Sure, that's why for the past few years every girl that turns your head has towered over me." Mulder looked her in the eyes and spoke in his softest voice. "Since the day you walked into the office, every woman that has crossed my path has been the exact opposite of you because I loved you." He moved up and grabbed her face in both of his hands so she had to look him in the eye. "Not a single one could compare to you. I loved you so much, but was so afraid to try anything that I just occupied my time with things that didn't remind me of you. No matter where I was or whom I was with, anytime a red head or short woman came into view, I thought of you. I couldn't have you, so I went for the exact opposite to try and make me forget, but it never worked." He kissed her forehead, her eyelids, and her cheeks. "You are the most precious thing that I have ever seen in my life. There isn't a day that doesn't go by that I don't thank God you are in my life. You are perfect; there is nothing that I would change about you. Well, maybe a little more openness to extreme possibilities." He smiled down to her. "Well, I love you and am going to marry you. Isn't that extreme enough?" "That isn't just extreme, to most people that's grounds for mental counseling." She brought her hands up to his face. "I don't care what other people think. All that matters is that you love me and I love you. As long as we have that, everything else will work itself out. But I must warn you. From now on, I will not be responsible for any stares or comments that I say under my breath whenever Agent Fowley is around. You will not be able to hold that against me." Mulder laughed at her comment. "I wouldn't dream of it. That's the easy part. You're not the one who is going to have listen to Frohike mourn over the lose of you." Scully laughed with him. "There isn't a single other person in this world that I want to be with. You have my heart and my love. I am yours and you're mine." He bent down to kiss her but before their lips met he broke away and moved back down to her breasts. "And right now, I want to play with what is mine." Scully smiled down at him, but her smile turned into groan as she felt Mulder's mouth capture her right breast in his mouth. As he sucked her right breast, his left hand massaged her other breast. He squeezed her nipple between his fingers and Scully moaned. "OHHH Muldeeeerrrrrr!!!!!!!!!" Her hands flew to his head letting him know that she loved what he was doing and didn't want him to stop. Mulder took her nipple in his mouth and bit it. Scully's hips rocked up against his body in response and Mulder groaned as his erection made contact with bare thighs. He pulled his mouth away from her breast and moved to the other one, giving it the same amount of attention as he had her right one. Scully continued to move her lower body in response and Mulder could feel his control slipping away. His hands flew down to her hips to keep her in place and his lips started to trail kissed down her body. When he reached her panties, his need increased more. He hooked his thumbs on both sides of them and quickly drew them off of her legs. Scully closed her eyes as the anticipation welled up in her. Mulder slowly brought his hands up her legs and slowly parted them. He inhaled her scent and smiled to himself at the thought that he is the cause for it. His brought his fingers up and ran them through her auburn curls. Scully jumped when she felt his tongue lick at her folds. He ran his tongue all around her center and when he heard her moan at the contact; he plunged into her. "Umm, Mulder," Scully slowly moaned out. Mulder continued to suckle at her and she squeezed her thighs together at the sensations he was creating. Scully's hands grabbed at her headboard as she tried to control her body. 'Oh boy. I could almost forgive Phoebe and Diana if they are the reason he is so good at this, almost,' she thought to herself. Then she felt two of his fingers entering her body and she felt herself start to shake. "Oh, fuck it. I'll send them flowers as a thank you." She didn't realize she said that out loud until Mulder's movements stopped and he lifted his head from between her legs. "Send who flowers?" he asked. Scully looked down at him and blushed. "Um, I was just thinking of um ahh. Don't worry about it Mulder. It's a good thing." "Well, it better be a good thing. I would hate to think that at this particular point in time you were going over your thank you list while I was doing this." "Oh believe Mulder at this point there is nothing else I am thinking of, in fact..." The rest of her response was cut off as Mulder started his fingers back pumping into her. Scully pushed her body onto his hand and they rocked together. Mulder's tongue was licking her bud and her could feel her insides start to constrict on his fingers. He lifted his head up from her and looked up at her. "That's it Scully, come for me. Come on Dana. I can feel that your body is ready. Just let go. I'm here with you, don't be afraid." He grabbed her bud with his teeth and pushed another finger into her. Scully arched up off the bed as she felt her orgasm begin. "Ohhh God Fooooxxx, ohhhh...." She said as her body rocked against his hand and head. Her legs locked hard around Mulder's head and her hips rocketed off of the bed. Mulder held onto her while her body calmed down and she relaxed. He listened for her breathing to slow down. When she was able to compose herself, Scully opened her eyes and looked down at Mulder. She smiled at him and motioned with her hands for him to come up to her. Mulder crawled up the bed on her left side. Scully tried to bring him over to her, but he wouldn't let her. Instead he pulled her over to him and he held her with her head on his chest. Scully started to giggle and Mulder pulled her away from his chest to look at her. "Would you like to show with the rest of the class what you find so amusing Ms. Scully?" Scully looked up at him. "It's soon to be Mrs. Mulder and you wouldn't find it funny if I told you." "Mrs. Mulder, huh." "Yes it's Scully-Mulder for the bureau and just Dr. Mulder the rest of the time. I have put too much work and effort into you not to get the pleasure of your name. Besides," she sat up and looked him in the eye. "You are mine and I want everyone to know that, since it isn't common for the guy to take the girl's last name I'll just take yours, same difference." She leaned over to kiss him and then settled back down onto his chest. "That was a very nice sentiment, but that still doesn't get you out of answering my question. What was so funny? That makes two times you laughed. Any other time I would love to hear you do that. You don't do it enough, but it doesn't help a man's ego when the woman laughs while his in the middle of that very delicate procedure or right after it." "Delicate procedure huh? When did you become a doctor?" "You seem to forget, I've always been a doctor. I just keep my Ph.D. from Oxford as a paperweight on my desk." Scully giggled again, "nice to know that expensive education didn't go to waste." Mulder rolled her over and put his arms on both sides of her head. "As I said before, laughing does not help the matter. Now what has you so giddy young lady?" "Trust me Mulder, it's just something that I was thinking and you wouldn't think it was all that funny. In fact, I'll bet that you would think I was out of it if I told you." "Well you've told me enough times that I am crazy, so I believe I have the right to do it to you once. So spill it young lady." He said as kissed her. He started to pull away, but Scully grabbed his head and plunged her tongue into his mouth. Mulder rolled over on top of her and Scully spread her legs so that he could get comfortable. She felt his erection press up against and stomach and moaned loudly at the contact. Mulder took her tongue between his teeth and sucked on it. Scully's hands traveled up and down his back. Mulder moved his mouth away from hers and went to suck on her ear. Scully's left leg arched up around Mulder's hips and her hands traveled down to grab his ass. She rocked her hips against his body. "Mulder," he continued to nip at her ear. "Oh, Mulder. I want...it's time." His mouth left her ear and he looked at her. "What Scully?" he asked. "I want you, now. I want to feel you in me. It's been so long, please Mulder." She moved one of her hands from his ass and pressed it in between their bodies. She found his shaft and again marveled at how hard he was. She couldn't wait any longer. "Mulder." She didn't have to say another thing. Mulder positioned himself at her opening and looked up at her one last to make sure this was absolutely what she wanted. She smiled up at him and arched her hips up and urged him on. He entered her slowly, enjoying the feel of her surrounding him. Silk, soft and lush, that's all that he could feel. He was right where he was supposed to be. Where he had wanted to be for so many years. "Oh yeah, I'm home. God Scully, you feel so good." He said as he entered her to the hilt. He didn't move for a while, it had been so long for him and he didn't want it to be over quickly. He also wanted to make sure that she was ready for him. He just stayed and enjoyed the feel of Scully around him. "Mulder," Scully said and she rocked her hips against his to let him know that she was fine. Mulder bent down to capture her lips and started to move. He moved slowly out of her and pushed himself back in. They quickly learned each other's rhythm; they pulled and came back together at the same time. Scully lifted her legs around Mulder's hips and urged him on, but he continued with the slow rhythm. She tried to speed up herself, but Mulder stopped all movement. She looked up at him. "Mulder, what's wrong?" she asked. When she looked in his eyes she saw that tears were starting to come from them. Her hands left his back and went to cup his face. "Mulder, Mulder talk to me. Are you ok?" She was worried. "I'm fine Scully." He smiled as she raised her eyebrow in response. "I'm okay," he brought his right hand up, captured her left hand in his and brought it to his lips. "Just a little too much going on in here." He took her hand and placed it over his heart. "Not use to so much happening and none of it turning out bad." Scully reached up and kissed him. "Well you better get use to it. We've had enough crap to deal with these past few years. I refuse to put up with it any longer and as long as I have you by my side I fully intend on only having happiness." Mulder smiled at her and brought his mouth back down place a kiss on her forehead. "But I must warn you Mulder, if you don't continue with what we were just doing, happiness will not be going on in this room. I have a gun and am fully prepared to use it. I've waited long enough for this. Now get that ass moving G-man." "As you wish," Mulder answered back to her as he kissed her and forcefully thrust into her. Their pace quickened into a frenzy. Mulder could feel himself quickly approaching his release, but he wasn't ready for it. He wanted them to do this together, just like everything else in their lives. He felt Scully's muscles constrict around him and moaned. "Scully, don't do that." She smiled at him and did it again. "Why not?" "Because I won't be held responsible for my actions in retaliation to it." "Ohh, now that sounds interesting." Mulder drew his hand between their bodies and found her nub. He pressed his thumb up against it and Scully groaned. "Mulder, no fair." "All's fair in love and war Scully." He continued to massage her as he thrust into her. Scully soon was approaching her breaking point and tightened her legs around Mulder's hips. "Mulder, oh God. I'm gonna..." Her response was cut off as Mulder's tongue invaded her mouth and his hips pushed even harder into her. Scully's felt her muscles contracting and closed her eyes at the feeling. "FOX!!!!!!!!" She screamed as her orgasm overtook her. Mulder took one final plunge into her and he felt himself begin to empty himself in her. "DANA!!!!" He said as he collapsed onto of her. He went to get off of her so she could breath, but she held him where he was. "Stay, I don't want to lose you yet." End 7b/13 No One But You 8/13 DenyTheTruth kelleigh@glasscity.net ---------------------- He rested his forehead against hers and said, "you're never gonna lose me. I love you too much." He pulled out of her and rolled onto his back. He brought her over to him. He placed her head on his chest and her right leg over both of his. "Besides, who else would put up with me? You're sort of stuck with me by default." "Oh I'm so depressed at that prospect," she answered back to him. "Thank you." "What for? I do believe that was an equal endeavor on both our parts." "I don't mean that. Although I must say that you did just shoot all my fantasies right out the door." "And here I was going for just making those videos that aren't yours looking like child's play." He smiled into her hair and inhaled the smell of their lovemaking. "Oh believe me, you did that too. But I was saying thank you for loving me." She looked up at him. "Why? Mulder there is no way that I couldn't love you. And in all honestly I have no idea how anyone couldn't. You are the strongest, gentlest, most caring, although infuriating at times, man that I have ever known. The only fault, besides your love of ditching me, and not listening to me all the time, and extreme leaps of logic." Mulder interrupted her speech, "I think I get the point." "Anyway, the only fault with you is that you don't see yourself as I do." She brought her hands up to his face. "You are a good man Fox William Mulder. I consider myself extremely lucky at having your trust and your love. There isn't anything I wouldn't do for you and as far as anyone else is concerned, they can take a long walk off a short pier for all I care because they don't know the real you and won't take the time to get to know him. Which is fine by me. It just means I get you all to myself." "Always Scully, always." He slowly yawned and looked over at the clock. "It's almost 1 in the morning. Let's get some rest tomorrow. If I have to deal with It's A Wonderful Life and Miracle on 34th Street on all the TV channels tomorrow I am going to need some sleep." "You sleep? Well, wonders never cease." Mulder turned Scully over to her side and pulled the comforter up around them. He then spooned himself along her back. "With you around I always sleep." He kissed her hair. "Goodnight Scully, sweet dreams." She yawned, "night Mulder." They then feel into a peaceful sleep. Scully's apartment Thursday, December 25th 4 a.m. An odd feeling at her back awakened Scully. She tried to turn over to see what it was, but was stopped by a pair of hands that held her into place. She relaxed when she realized that it was Mulder's body pushed up next to her that awoke her. It was such an odd thing having Mulder in her bed, and naked no less. She carefully got out of his arms and the bed, trying not to wake him. Mulder murmured something into the pillow that he grabbed to replace the feel of Scully. Scully smiled down at him. When he slept he looked years younger. No monsters or worries to cloud over his face. Just peaceful rest. Scully realized that this was one of the few times she had seen Mulder at rest peacefully. He didn't sleep that much and those times when he did were plagued by nightmares. She went over to her closet door and grabbed her satin robe to put on. She went over to the bed, kissed Mulder lightly on the forehead and went out onto the small deck that was outside her bedroom. She closed the door quietly so not to wake Mulder and sat down on a chair. She pulled her legs up under her to help keep her warm and turned on the radio that was next to the chair. She listened to the soft music and thought back to the events of the past evening. She smiled as she looked down at her hand and saw her engagement ring. 'Merry Christmas to me,' she thought to herself. She still couldn't believe that she had gotten engaged to Fox Mulder and that they had made love. 'That's an understatement. He takes making love to a whole new level.' She continued her silent reverie until a pair of hands surrounding her waist and a nose nuzzling the back of her neck interrupted her thoughts. "What are you doing out here in the cold?" Mulder asked with a sleepy voice. "Just thinking and relaxing. What are you doing up?" "I was asleep till I turned over and you weren't next to me." He hugged her back to him and kissed her head. "Sorry, I tried not to wake you. You looked like you needed the rest." "It's not the rest, it was the person next to me." He turned her head to look at him. "Are you sure you're okay? You're not out here thinking about how what happened between us tonight was a mistake and now you want out of it?" She smiled up at him. "No nothing like that. We have been building up to what happened tonight for years. In all honesty I thought it was never going to happen. I was just thinking that I must have been a very good girl this year since I got my ultimate Christmas wish, you." "Oh sure, I'm just what everyone's wishing for; an obsessive, neurotic, paranoid, workaholic. You have weird tastes in gifts, you do know this?" "No more weirder than my taste in men." She gave him a quick kiss on the lips and went back to looking out over her deck. Mulder moved up from behind her and pulled her out of the chair. "What are you doing?" she asked. "Getting comfortable." He saw down on the chair with her in his lap and they enjoyed the view together. Mulder noticed the radio was playing and got an idea. "Hey Scully." "Yes?" "Get up for a minute." "What for? I'm quite happy with where I am at." "I'm pleased with your position also, but just get up anyway. Don't worry it will be worth it." Scully reluctantly got up from his lap and Mulder followed suit. He reached out for her and brought her into a tight embrace. "I think I'm entitled to a dance with my future wife." She smiled up at him and reached her arms around his neck. "I think that can be arranged." They started to move together slowly as they listened to the song There you go, flashing fever from your eyes Hey babe, come over here and shut them tight I'm not denying, we're flying above it all Hold my hand don't let me fall You've such amazing grace I've never felt this way Oh, show me heaven, cover me Leave me breathless Oh, show me heaven please Here I go, I'm shaking just like the breeze Hey babe, I need your head to steady me I'm not denying, I'm frightened as much as you Though I'm barely touching you I've shivers down my spine, and it feels divine Oh, show me heaven, cover me Leave me breathless Oh, show me heaven please Do you know what it's like to dream a dream? Baby hold me tight and let this be Oh, show me heaven, cover me Leave me breathless Oh, show me heaven please As the song faded into a commercial they continued to dance. Mulder brought Scully's hand up to his mouth and kissed it. "You are my heaven Scully." She looked up at him. "I'll remember you said that the next time you say I'm giving you hell." She stood on her tiptoes and kissed him on the mouth. "I love you." He raised her in his arms and she wrapped her legs around his waist. "I love you too. Merry Christmas Scully. "Merry Christmas Mulder." They stayed like that for a few minutes till Scully spoke. "Mulder, do you think we can go inside? I'm cold and there's a nice big bed waiting in there for us to get in." "I do believe I can do that." He walked back into her room and walked over to the bed to put her down. "I'll be right back," he said and went into the bathroom. Scully curled under the comforter and was fast asleep by the time Mulder came back. He looked down at her before climbing in next to her. He pulled her over to him, wrapped both his arms around her and fell asleep. William Scully Residence Thursday, December 25th 6:30 a.m. Pacific Standard Time Things were quite busy in the living room. Charlie had gotten everyone up early, just like he use to as kid and made breakfast for them. "Thanks Charlie, just for making breakfast you don't have to give me a gift now. The less work I have to do the better." Tara said as she drank her coffee. "It's the least I could do since you've been feeding me the past few days." He said as he cleared the plates. "Yeah thanks Charlie, now she's going to expect me to do it some time too." Bill said as he played with Matthew. "Hey if Dana can cook food, then we know there is no reason that you can't do it every once in a while," Charlie answered back. "Oh I forgot to call her and wish her a Merry Christmas," Mrs. Scully said as she got up. "I'll be right back, I just want to say a quick hello." "Let me know when you're done. I want to wish one also." Charlie called out. "I wish she was here with us," Tara said. "It's her own choice. She could be here but she decided to be in D.C. with that asshole." "Bill don't start, it's Christmas. At least try and be civil to her and wish her a happy holiday," Tara said as she took Matthew from him. "Why do I have to be the one to give the olive branch?" "Because you're the idiot that can't get over it," Charlie said. "You may be my big brother but at times I fell like you're the youngest. Dana's living her life the way she wants to and we just have to accept it. If you don't you're going to end up losing any kind of contact with her what so ever." "Like I have that much time with her to begin with. All her time is spent with Mulder running off on some stupid case." "Bill, drop it. You are going to get on that phone and be nice to your sister," Tara said as she went into the living room. "Think about it Bill. We don't have Melissa or dad and you and me rarely get to see each other with the ships. Aside from mom, Dana is the only family we got. Are you really willing to lose her over this? It's her decision and as long as she is happy with it, that's all that matters." Charlie said as he left the room to let Bill think. Scully's apartment Thursday, December 25th 9:30 a.m. Eastern Standard Time Mulder picked up the phone without thinking about where he was. "Lo," he said sleepily. "Fox, Fox is that you?" Margaret asked. Mulder's eyes opened wide and he jerked his head up. "Um, yeah it's me Mrs. Scully." "That's good dear, I'm glad you and Dana are spending the holiday together. I'm also glad that I caught you. I'm a little surprised that you didn't find a case to work on." Mulder laughed at her comment. "No, no case. Although I think Scully would prefer that to being stuck here with me." "No she wouldn't Fox. Is she near the phone? We'd like to wish her Merry Christmas." "Um yeah, hold on a minute." He put his hand over the receiver sat up in bed, pulling Scully with him. She buried her head in his chest and continued to speak. "Scully," he whispered in her ear. "Scully, wake up. You're moms on the phone." "Go away Mulder. I love you, but if you wake me up and make me get out of this nice position I will have to kill you." "Listen, I'm quite happy with the position you're in too, but you're mom's on the phone." Scully opened her eyes and sat up a little more. "You answered the phone? I was hoping to tell her in person about us." "Don't worry she doesn't know. She thinks I just came over, so you're safe. Here." He handed her the phone and pulled her back up against him. While she talked he nuzzled her hair. "Hello, hi mom. Merry Christmas to you too. How's everyone?" "Good, we wish you were here with us." "Me too mom, but I didn't want to ruin Christmas and if I stayed something would have happened." Mulder whispered in her ear. "You mean something worse than you knocking your brother on his ass?" Scully tried to hide her laugh and elbowed him in the stomach. "I know dear, but still." "I know mom. Hey is Matthew awake?" "Yes, you want me to put him on the phone?" "Yes." Scully waited till she heard her nephew cooing on the other line. "Merry Christmas Matthew. You be a good boy now and go open everyone's Christmas presents and make a big mess for your daddy to clean up. "I heard that Dana Katherine," Tara said into the phone. "It wouldn't be Bill who cleaned it up, I would. So, don't giving my son ideas. How are you?" "I'm fine. Mulder had dinner over here last night and we're going to just hang around and watch movies today. "That actually sounds better than what I have to do. Can we switch places?" "No way, I can barely cook for myself, let alone for the whole family." "Hey you can have Mulder cook for you." "No thanks Tara, I'd like to not spend the holiday getting my stomach pumped." Mulder bite her ear in retaliation for her comment and started to trail kisses down her neck. "Besides, he's like Bill in the kitchen." "Oh no keep him away then. Hey, Charlie wants to talk to you and I see that my son has taken your advice so I have to go stop him. Talk to you later. Tell Mulder I wish him Merry Christmas also." "Bye Tara." "Hey there 'Munchkin' what's up?" Charlie asked as he got on the phone. "Charlie quit calling me that." "I'll stop calling you that when you can reach my chin." "Listen bub, keep it up and I'll have Mulder kick you ass." "What's this, you get engaged and let Mulder defend you. Hell you should have gotten engaged long ago. Would have saved us a lot of hassle." "Charlie, don't say anything I haven't told mom yet." "Don't worry, I took the phone in the den no one's around. So I can take it that you accepted his proposal and we are going to be getting another new member to this bunch?" "Yes I did accept and thank you for sending the ring here." "No problem, but I must say that it isn't a good sign to start off your engagement." "Keep it up, just keep it up little brother. Remember you just got engaged too, so I can zing you right back." "Hey Charlie be careful, remember she carries gun and knows how to use it," Mulder said over Scully's shoulder. "Hey put Mulder on the phone for a minute." "Sure, but why you want to talk to him is beyond me." She handed Mulder the phone and kissed his lips as he pouted. "Hey Charlie, what can I do you for?" "Mulder, what the hell are you doing answering the phone. When Ann and I got engaged, we didn't answer the door or phone for 2 days. Hell we never left he bed." "That sounds like an idea." Scully got up and went into the bathroom. "Hey Charlie, I need to ask you a favor." "I suppose I can try, seeing that we're going to be family. What do you want?" "Are things smoothed over with Bill" "About as much as can be expected, why?" "Because even though Scully is happy to be here with me, I know that she misses you and your mom. You think it's safe to come out there?" "No, not right now." Mulder's face fell as he heard Charlie's answer. "But give me a day and I'll make it safe. That way we get New Years Eve together and you guys can meet Ann." "Good, I'll call the airport and book Scully a ticket for tomorrow. I should get lucky, if I have to I'll use my FBI credentials." "Better make that two tickets." "Why? I want Scully to have a nice holiday." "Me too, but do you think she's going to be happy with you back there alone. I don't think so. Besides this is going to be one bad scene when Bill learns of your engagement. The more people we have here, the better chance we can get it all over with quickly with little blood shed. Also, you're a member of the family now. That means you have to endure these holiday get togethers just like I do. Plus, as I said Ann's coming up here and I want her and Dana to meet. Now, you guys get your asses out here so we can all be together. Mom will love it." "You sure about this. Getting Bill to clam down over Scully hitting him is a lot different from getting him to accept me coming there during the holidays, let alone getting engaged to his sister." "He may now know it, but he's going to have to get over it. You make Dana happy and that's all that matters. So get off the phone with me and call the airport. I want 'Munchkin' and you here by tomorrow night. You got that?" "Yes sir. I'll call you later to let you know when the plane lands." "Deal. Tell Dana I love her." "I will, tell everyone we say bye." Mulder hung up and Scully walked back in the room. She climbed on top of his lap and hugged him. "Thank you." "For what?" "I heard what you said over the phone." She looked up at him. "Thanks for understanding how much I miss them and how much I want to be with all my family, especially you." "My pleasure. So what do you want to do today?" "Well, you call the airport and make the reservations. I'll make something to eat. And then what do you say we try Charlie's idea about not getting out of bed till we have to leave?" She asked him with a big smile on her face. "I like the way you Scullys think." He kissed her once and went to call the airport while Scully went into the kitchen. Scully's apartment Thursday, December 25th 6:00 p.m. Mulder was sitting on Scully's couch surfing through the TV channels. Scully came out of her room and gave him a kiss on his cheek. "Mulder, you know you don't have to go with me to San Diego if you don't want to." She said to him as she went into the kitchen. Mulder got up and followed her into the kitchen. "What do you mean if I don't want to? I wouldn't have made the plane and hotel reservations if I didn't want to go." "No, you would have made them if you thought it was what I wanted. I appreciate the gesture, but I know that you don't care for these family things, especially with Bill." She turned to the sink to fill her glass with water. "I'm just letting you know that you don't have to come with me. We were able to spend Christmas together, I'm quite happy with that." He came up behind her and hugged her. "Well, I'm not, besides I want to see Charlie and finally meet the one Scully brother who doesn't wish my death." He looked at Scully's sad expression and tried to cheer her up. "I was serious when I said that I want to spend the rest of my life with you. From the moment you put this ring on your finger." He held her hand out in front of them. "You became stuck with me. That just means that Bill has to get over it. Besides, I think your mom would be more mad at me than Bill if I wasn't there when you tell her about the engagement." He turned her around and kissed her. "She wouldn't be upset. The first thing she's going to say is that it took us long enough. At least now she'll stop with her not so subtle hints about how great we are for each other." "Just remember, we tell your family together, but you get to be the one to break the news to Frohike. Of course he'll be easy compared to Skinner, maybe I should tell the guys and let you tell Skinner instead." "Skinner won't be tough. Just go in there with my request for transfer and when he asks what's going on tell him we are engaged. It's that simple. The tough thing will be finding you a new partner to work with. All though, since we're now engaged, you could work with Diana," she trailed off and started kissing his neck. Mulder groaned at her kisses. "If I wasn't enjoying what you are doing right now, I would make you pay for that comment." "Later Mulder, later." She moved out of his arms and walked into the living room. "Right now we need to get these movies back to the store and go to your place to pack your clothes." She grabbed the movies and went to get her and Mulder's coats from the closet. Mulder helped her put her coat on and they left. End 8/13 No One But You 9/13 NC-17 part DenyTheTruth kelleigh@glasscity.net ---------------------- Mulder's Apartment Thursday, December 25th 8:00 p.m. Scully opened Mulder's door, but before she could walk in she found herself in his arms. "Mulder what are you doing?" "Giving you a hug, what's it feel like?" He put her feet back on the ground and entered the apartment. She shook her head and followed him in. "I don't think I will ever fully get you Mulder." "Yeah, but that's what marriage is for. To find out all the quirky details." He said as he went into his room to pack. "I know enough quirky stuff about you as it is." She said as she sat down on his couch. She looked over at his phone and saw that he had messages. "Mulder," she called out. "What Scully?" "You've got quite a few messages on your machine, you want me to play them so you can find out what it is?" "Yeah, but if any of them are for Marty just ignore them." Mulder said with a chuckle in his voice. "I'll just call them and tell them to lose your number." She reached over and hit the play button. "Hey Mulder it's Frohike, just calling to see how you're doing. The guys say hi. You should be here man. You would not believe the things here at Christmas time. Anyway just wanted to drop a quick hello and wish you Merry Christmas. Don't forget to call Scully and wish her Merry Christmas from us. Bye." Scully smiled as Frohike's message ended. "You do realize that aside from their paranoia, the Gunmen are very sweet?" He came out of the room with his packed bag. "And you do realize that if they ever heard you say that, you would never be able to get rid of them?" "So, they've helped us more times than I can remember." Mulder sat down next to her and pulled her onto his lap. "Fox are you there?" Diana Fowley's voice came over the machine. "If you're there pick up I really need to speak with you. Ok, I guess you're out. Anyway call me when you get this message." "Wonder what she wants?" Scully said. "Don't know, don't care." Mulder said as he started to suck on her neck. "Hey Mulder, its Charles Scully. I was just calling to see if you got the ring. I'm hoping that since you aren't home right now, that you got it and are at my sister's coaxing a yes out of her. Call me and let me know when you two have started acting with some common sense." "Charlie if you waited for Mulder to act with common sense, you'd die before it happened." Scully said into the room. "Hey!" Mulder stopped his attentions to her neck and turned her around so her legs straddled his lap. "I didn't hear you complaining about the way I act last night or this afternoon." "I have no complaints in regards to you, but I'm use to you." She leaned in and kissed him and ran her hands under his shirt. Mulder opened his mouth and plunged his tongue into her mouth. "Fox, Fox are you there yet? Would you please pick up the phone it's important!" Diana Fowley's voice came over the machine again. Scully broke away from the kiss and Mulder tried to bring her lips back to his. "Stop Mulder, listen to her for a minute." "I don't care what she has to say right now. There are more important things on my mind," he said to her as he tried to kiss her again. "Mulder it's not your mind that you're thinking with. Now listen to the message," Scully said. Mulder defeated, stopped his actions and sat back on the couch. "Fox, I know that you don't care that much for me, but would you please stop acting like a child. Let's just put the past behind us and move on." "That's what I've been trying to do for the last eight years." Mulder said to no one in particular. "Fox when you hear this call me. I was going through some old X-Files that I have in my study and came across something that I think you should take a look at. I think it's one of the first ones we worked on. I was going through it and realized that it sounded familiar. I think it may have something to do with an X-File you worked on last year about an Emily Simms." "WHAT!!!" Mulder and Scully said at the same time. "Call or just come over and we can go over this. Bye," Diana said and the message ended. Scully got off of Mulder's lap and started dialing Diana's phone number. Mulder came up behind her and stopped her. "What are you doing?" she asked. "I want to find out what the hell she is doing keeping X-Files. They are all supposed to be in the cabinets in our office. Only me you and Skinner can take them out." Mulder took the phone from her and sat her down on the couch. "I don't care right now about her having any X-Files. The only thing I care about is you. Are you ok?" "I'm fine. I made my peace in regards to Emily already so I'm not upset over that. I am however upset that she has X-Files. We could never prove that she was involved with Cancerman, but we know that Spender was and since she's his partner that's all the evidence I need." "We'll deal with that later. Right now we are both on vacation. The bureau, the X-Files, and Diana can just wait till after the New Year. This is time for you and me. Besides, I highly doubt that my going over there has anything to do with work. Now let's get going. Our plane leaves at 2 a.m. and I'd like to get some sleep to try and help with the three hour time difference and I'm afraid that one night in your bed has ended my nights of sleeping on this couch." He got up and pulled Scully with him. "Good, because I don't think that couch could fit the both of us and from now on I am not sleeping alone. But we will have to christen it once before it's gone." Scully went to pick his bag up and Mulder threw her on the couch. "Mulder!" He started unbuttoning her shirt and kissing her chest. "I'm just taking you up on your suggestion. I've spent enough nights on this thing fantasying about you. I think it's time that it gets to see and hear and feel the real thing." "Oh Mulder." Her hands went to his shirt and pulled it out from his jeans. "Fox," a knock came on the door. Both Mulder and Scully froze in place. "Fox, are you in? Answer the door it's important." Diana Fowley said outside his apartment. Scully started to button her shirt back up, but Mulder stopped her. "Just ignore her, she'll go away." He said as his head went back down to her breast. "Fox, come on I know you're in there. I saw your car outside. I know it's Christmas, but don't torture yourself like this." "Mulder," Scully said as she pulled his head up. "Get up and see what she wants. We'll have time for this later." Mulder reluctantly got up and ran a hand through his hair. "This had better be something important. There are other things I can think of doing instead of talking to my ex." He said to Scully as he walked over to the door. He opened up the door. "Hello Diana, what can I do for you?" he asked. "Where have you been Fox? I've been trying to get in contact with you all day yesterday and today. I told you not to torture yourself over the holiday." She tried to enter the apartment but Mulder showed no sign of letting her in. "I haven't been torturing myself Diana. Believe me, I haven't felt anything but the utmost pleasure for the past 24 hours." Scully tried to stop from giggling, but it escaped from her lips. Mulder heard her and laughed a little himself. "What did I miss?" Diana asked. She pushed her way into the apartment. "Fox I really need to speak with you. I think this warrants you taking a look at it and will help keep your mind off of Sam. So just come sit with me on your couch and read your file." She walked into the living room and Mulder followed her. Diana stopped in mid stride when she saw Scully come out from the kitchen with a glass of water and a pack of crackers. "You know Mulder, we really have to work on your eating habits. Spoiled milk, sardines, and peanut butter does not constitute in a healthy diet." Scully said as she walked over to Mulder and gave him the crackers. She smiled at Diana, "hello Agent Fowley, happy holidays." She made her way over to the couch and grabbed Mulder's bag. "I'm going to just double check to make sure that you've got everything before you leave for San Diego." She said as she headed into his bedroom. "You don't trust my packing Scully? I'm crushed, I've been doing it for years." "Yes I know that Mulder. I also know how you pack and you always seem to forget something." She said as she closed his bedroom door to give him and Diana some privacy. "You going out on a case? I thought you were on vacation till after New Years." She asked as she sat down on the couch and handed the case file to Mulder. "I am on vacation," he answered and took the file but didn't bother looking at it. "You're heading to San Diego? Isn't that where Agent Scully was suppose to be? What's she doing back here? Does this have something to do with that Emily Simms case? I remember reading in it that you had to go out to San Diego last Christmas for her." She asked the questions without waiting for a response form Mulder. Mulder looked at the file and threw it on the table. "This has nothing to do with Emily Simms or any other X-File. I'm just going out of town to relax. So, if that is all. I want to get going and make sure Scully and I get some sleep before our flight leaves." "You two are going together?" She got up from the couch and walked over to him. "Come on Fox, I may not be working on the X-Files anymore, but I can tell when you're onto something. Just admit that you're working on a case. I won't tell Skinner." Scully came out of the bedroom. "Double checked, you're all set." She looked at Diana and Mulder and could tell that there was still some tension and unfinished business between them. "I'll take your bag down to your car and grab a cab." She smiled at Mulder and let him know through their silent communication that she'd be waiting for him. "You don't have to do that Scully." He stopped her from leaving and grabbed her hand. "Diana and I are done and she was just getting ready to leave. Besides, don't you think that I'm going to let out of my sight for one minute." "Mulder," Scully warned him. They had discussed last night that they wouldn't let anyone in the bureau know about them until they told Skinner and figured out what was going to happen to their partnership. He smiled at her tome and brought her hand up to his lips. "What, you're rescuing me from holiday hell. Another minute alone and you would have been visiting me in a psycho ward." He looked over at Diana. "Listen, the plane leaves late tonight and I want to get some rest. Is there anything else you wanted to talk about?" "No, I just wanted you to take a look at the case. But, if you're going to head out of here to finally relax, I'll wait and discuss it with you when you get back from vacation. It was nice to see you again Agent Scully." She said as she left. Mulder looked at he closed door and then turned to kiss Scully. When they finally parted, Scully looked up at him with an accusing look on her face. "What?" Mulder asked innocently. "What were you thinking? She is a trained agent, she can put two and two together." "I don't care if she does. Big deal. It's bound to get out sooner or later. Besides, I want everyone to know that I'm the luckiest man in the world. Dana Katherine Scully is in love with me and is going to marry me." He looked at the face she was making. "Don't look at me like that. I'm happy, it's something new and different for me so it's going to take me a while to get use to it. So if I act like a love struck teenager leave me alone." "You are so hopeless," Scully said as she picked up his bag. "Come on Don Juan. Let's get going." She opened the apartment door, but Mulder pulled her body up to his and closed the door. He started kissing her neck. "Mulder what?" "Not so fast there young lady. I do believe that before we were so rudely interrupted, you said something about christening my couch." Scully turned in his arms with a smile on her face and brought his mouth down onto hers. "Yes I did say that didn't I? And I never leave a thing unfinished." She kissed him hard. Mulder pulled them over to the couch and sat down with Scully straddling his lap. Mulder's hands ran down Scully's back and cupped both her ass cheeks. Scully moaned into his mouth and Mulder quickly thrust his tongue into her mouth. They stayed like that sucking and nipping till they had to break for air. Scully kissed Mulder's neck while they regained oxygen for their lungs. Her hands left Mulder's head and ran down the front of his shirt. She quickly unbuttoned the shirt, trying not to get frustrated and end up ripping the shirt off of him. When she finally had all the buttons done, Mulder moved away from the couch to take it off. He quickly did the same with Scully's blouse and bra. Scully pushed Mulder back down on the couch and covered his body with hers. Mulder ran his hands up and down her back, kneading the muscles as he went along. Scully pulled her mouth away from the kiss and ran it down his neck to his chest. She licked each of his nipples and then continued down to his bellybutton. She felt his erection against her breast and moved her hands from his chest to cup him through his jeans. Mulder closed his eyes at her touch and his hips jerked up from the couch. Scully smiled at his reaction and continued to stroke him while she lapped at his stomach. Mulder grabbed the head of the couch since all of his senses were already on overload and closed his eyes. Scully moved her mouth up Mulder's stomach and kissed her way up to his mouth. Mulder opened his eyes back up and his hands left their place on the couch and went straight to her head. Scully's hands were working on the belt and zipper of his jeans while Mulder continued to devour her mouth. She was finally able to open his jeans and she snaked her hand down his boxers. Mulder whimpered at her touch and tried to control himself, but what Scully was doing just felt so good he couldn't do it. He quickly flipped Scully over so that their positions were reversed with him on top of her. He made quick work of her pants and underwear and Scully soon found herself unable to think a coherent thought as Mulder's hands started to massage all over the front of her body. He started at her breasts and twisted each nipple between his fingers. Scully arched her back to let him know that she wanted him to continue. Her hands trailed down her body and she started to stroke herself. Mulder stopped his attention to her breasts and watched as Scully's hands began to work. She noticed the lack of movement on his part and stopped her own movements. "Don't," Mulder said as moved his hands to cover her own. He bent down to kiss her. "I want you to continue. I want to feel how you like to be touched. I want to know what makes you feel best." Scully moved her hands from Mulder's and supped his face. "Mulder, as long as it's your hands, it doesn't matter." He kissed her. "I know, but still, I want to know. I want to know how you spent all those endless evenings of loneliness. I want to see how you pleasured yourself all those years that we denied ourselves this. I want to see you, just the thought of you touching yourself makes me want you even more." Scully began to blush at his words and she turned her head to try and hide it. "Don't," Mulder said as he turned her face to look up at him. "Don't be embarrassed about it, I'm not. You know I've done it myself, hell you've seen the videos." Scully smiled up at him. "Except for one time, since the day you entered my life there hasn't been anyone else. I can't count the number of times that I have laid down here and thought of you while I pleasured myself." Scully looked at him with a question in her eyes. Mulder knew what she was asking. "I've gone out, but I could never do that with them. I loved you and only wanted to be with you in that way. You've not only owned my mind and soul, but my body as well for years. The one time that I did allow myself to be with someone else, you were gone and I only did it in hopes of dying. I missed you so much and was in so much pain that I didn't even care what happened to me. All I knew was that I was alone and felt empty and just wanted to be with you." "Mulder, you don't have to explain Kristen and what happened between the two of you. I read the case file and that was way before we had anything between us. We both have had our transgressions in our past that we aren't proud of." "I know that, I just want you to know that despite everything it's been you and thoughts of you that have gotten me through all these years. That's why I want to watch you. I want to see how you handled it." Scully pulled her hands from Mulder's face and they traveled down to her center. Mulder bent his head down and watched as she slowly stroked her outside folds and then inserted two fingers into herself. She closed her eyes at the sensation. "That's it, just let go. Your hands are mine. Show me where you want to be touched and how you like it." He whispered in her ear. Scully's hips moved up to meet her fingers and Mulder lead his hands down to hers. "Yes, just like that. It's just you and me Scully, like always." He inserted one of his fingers into her and surrounded it with her wetness. He smiled as he heard Scully moan in disappointment when he took his finger away. Scully opened her eyes and looked to find Mulder spreading her juices along his cock and started to stroke himself at the same rhythm she was. Scully's eyes darkened more with desire while she watched Mulder and his eyes did the same. They continued this way, watching each other pleasuring themselves until they were to the brink. Mulder was the first to stop when he saw Scully close her eyes and bite down on her lip. He knew she was close and so was he. He took his hands and used them to pull Scully's hands away from her body. She looked up at him with questioning eyes. "I said that I wanted to see and know what you like. I didn't say anything about me not finishing it off." He said to her as he quickly pushed himself into her. They groaned in unison and began to move. They were so sensitive and close from their own actions that it didn't take long for them to reach their climaxes. Scully felt her walls closing in and her muscles contracting and drew her legs around Mulder's hips to get the full effect. Mulder felt her body's response and increased his speed even more. "Oh God Scully," he said in a horse voice and came. Scully felt his release and that set off her own. "Mulder," she said as she dug her nails into his back. After their breathing had returned back to normal. Mulder turned them over so that Scully was lying on his chest. He pulled the blanket off of the back of the couch and covered them up. They stayed like that for a while till Mulder noted the time. "Hey Scully. Don't fall asleep, we got a plane to catch and you still need to pack." "Mulder," she mumbled in his chest. "My bags are still in California with mom's at the hotel. What do I need to pack for?" He lifted her up and stood next to her. "Well, considering the fact that we're surprising your mom and everyone else tomorrow morning, I would think you would at least need one pair of clothes to wear over to Bill's. Well, that and something to sleep in when we get to the hotel after we leave the airport." Scully handed him his clothes and started to dress herself. "Why bother with clothes? If I get cold during the night, I'll just wrap myself around you and soak up your body heat." "If you do that to me with no clothes on, I can guarantee you won't be getting any sleep." He said to her as he kissed her on the cheek and grabbed his bag. "Now let's get going. I don't want anymore visitors tonight." He said as they left his apartment. End 9/13 No One But You 10/13 DenyTheTruth kelleigh@glasscity.net ---------------------- San Diego International Airport Friday, December 26th 2:45 a.m. Pacific Standard Time Charles Scully was sitting impatiently on a bench waiting for Scully and Mulder's flight to de-board. The flight had spent the last half an hour circling around due to fog and had finally landed. He looked at his watch. "Charlie calm down, they'll be getting off in any moment. It was only a slight delay because of the fog. You're acting like it's something major." His fiancee Ann said while she grabbed his hand. "Ann, I've told you some of the stories my sister has written me about. With these two there is nothing little. If something bad can happen, they will find it." "You're such an optimist. I'll have to make sure that your sister doesn't ask you to make a toast at their wedding." "I'm not that bad, it's just we've been her for over two hours. I know that you have got to be tired. You flew all the way from Florida and then had to stay here on this uncomfortable bench." "Am I complaining? No. Sure my butt is a little sore, but looking at your watch isn't going to get your sister off of the plane any faster." "Yeah I know. I'm just a little nervous." "Nervous why?" she asked as she kissed his hand. "Dana and I have always been the closest of the family. Even though we don't see each other much, we write and talk and never let anything get in way of communication. I just want her to like you. It's really important to me." She smiled up at him. "Yeah right. And if you believe that, I have a really nice bridge in Brooklyn that I want to sell to you." "What do you mean?" "Charlie, you aren't worried about your sister meeting me, you're worried about meeting this Mulder." He took his hand from hers and got defensive. "No I'm not. I have no need to worry about meeting him." "Oh don't you. Let's see. You're about to meet the most important man in your sister's life. A position that aside from your father, you use to be the one who held it. You're worried that he won't like you. That he's going to think you're like Bill. You're also worried that you won't like him. You know that Dana is happy with him, but if there is something about him that you don't like, you're going to tell her and you don't want that to happen. That about right?" "I can tell that marriage with you is going to be fun. I can't keep anything from you." "In marriage you're not suppose to. And this isn't anything drastic here. I was the same way when my younger sister got married. I was so afraid that I wouldn't like her husband, but I did. So, don't worry about it. You yourself said that from the few minutes you've spoken with him on the phone he seems like a nice guy. Just relax and let it happen naturally ok." "Ok." He looked up and saw Dana coming out of the passenger runway. He went up to her and hugged her. "Bought time you decided to show up. For a minute I thought you were going to make me go through New Years with Bill alone." "No I did that last year and I remember it as not a pretty experience. Of course I'll be here to back you up." "There's no one else I would want to be there to back me up but her either." A voice from behind Scully said. Charlie's eyes were drawn away from his sister up to the owner of the voice. He saw a man about four inches shorter than him, but he could tell that if it came to it the guy could easily beat him. 'This is Mulder. Mom and Melissa were right. He looks less like a FBI agent and more like an actor,' he thought to himself. He saw his sister's smile as she grabbed Mulder's hand. 'It's about time I saw one of those on your face.' "And if she isn't any where to be found. You can just call on me. The moment I'm around, Bill loses all interest on everything except me and how terrible I have been to your family." Mulder smiled at Charlie. Charlie extended his hand to Mulder's and they shook. "Charles Scully, it's nice to finally meet you Mulder." He looked at Mulder and then down to his sister. "Geeze Munchkin. This poor guy must gets lots of neck aches looking down at you." Scully hit him lightly in the arm. "Watch it there. You may be taller, but I'm the older one and I carry a gun." "And believe me she knows how to use it and isn't afraid to," Mulder said. "Good then. I'll have to remember that whenever Charlie gets out of line." Ann said as she came up behind Charlie. "Since it seems your brother here has lost his manners, I guess I'll have to do the introductions." She held her hand out to Dana and they shook. "Hi, I'm Ann Reynolds." "Dana Scully." Scully let go of her hand and turned to Mulder. "This is Fox Mulder my partner." Charlie laughed at what she said. "Dana I believe the term you were looking for was fiancee. It's ok. You are engaged now you can say it. One time with my fiancee." "Leave her alone Charlie," Ann said. Her and Mulder shook hands. "It's nice to meet you also. I don't know much about you, but as long as you make Dana happy that will make Charlie happy and so I'll be happy." She turned to Charlie. "And you should be one to talk. It took you a month to finally be able to call me your girlfriend." Charlie groaned at the jabbing he was taking from his fiancee, Scully laughed. "I like her already Charlie. She isn't afraid to tell you off." Charlie looked over at Mulder. "You see what I have to deal with? And I'm related to her by blood. Are you sure you want to become part of this? I'm getting this from both my sister and future wife. I can tell you right now, as long as Dana doesn't object you'll be getting it from Ann also." Scully put her arm around Mulder. "He doesn't have a choice anymore." Scully said. "The minute I got this ring on my finger he became stuck to the deal. The only way he is getting out of it is death and that will happen if I don't do my job and I don't plan on that happening." She looked at her watch. "It's almost 3 in the morning, Charlie what are you doing here? You two should be at the hotel sleeping, not waiting for our plane. We could have caught a cab." They started walking to pick up their luggage. "It was no trouble Dana," Ann said. "My plane only landed two hours ago and since we're staying at the same hotel we can just go there together. Besides, the sooner I get to meet you the sooner I have an ally when I meet the rest of your family." "You don't have to worry about anything Ann." Mulder said as he and Ann began to walk faster than Scully and her brother. "Mrs. Scully will like you no matter what and since I'm also here that means you win by default on which of the soon to be in-laws Bill will like." "I wouldn't count on it. From what Charlie has told me and from what I have heard from guys who have sailed with Bill. We won't really be getting along all that well also. At least you'll be in the same boat with me so I won't get lonely." She looked back at Dana and Charlie who were following behind them and talking amongst themselves. "You know you two have great taste in your love lives." Charlie and Scully both looked at her with an eyebrow raised. Mulder laughed when he saw the similar expression from the siblings. He and Ann slowed down their pace for Charlie and Scully to catch up. "I knew it was genetic. There was no way that look came just from working with me." "Watch it Mulder, aside from facial expressions, me and my sister share other qualities. One of which is taking care of anyone who messes with the other." He looked over at Ann. "And what did you mean about the choices in our love lives?" "I just mean that you two both seemed to decide to fall in love with people that don't like your brother and that your brother doesn't like." "Do you really think that I chose to fall in love with this?" Scully asked while she pointed to Mulder. They arrived at the baggage claim and waited for their bags. Scully turned to Ann, "no, when I first met him in the X-Files office all those years ago my thoughts were not that I want to fall in love with him." "No they were 'who in the hell did I piss off to get stuck with this psycho and how soon can I get out?' That was her first thought," Mulder said. "No my first thought was that I've been banished down to the basement to watch after the burnt out golden boy. I wasn't far off." "Hey," Mulder said as he picked up his and Scully's bag. "If I didn't know anybody I would say that I should take offense to that comment." "Don't bother Mulder. Move on and get over it. That's the quickest and best way. Believe me, I have more years of experience than you do in this department." They all started walking to the exit. Scully looked at her brother and then back to Mulder. She turned her head to Ann. "Do you think we could just leave them here and head to the hotel on our own?" Ann laughed. "Will never happen. We'd get there and they would have found some way to beat us and then we'd have to deal with them. Best to just stay with them." "I suppose, but let me state for the record that if this continues or you two decide to gang up on me anytime during this trip, I will not be held responsible for my actions," Scully said to Mulder and her brother. "Don't worry Munchkin," Mulder said. "We won't mess with you." "Mulder don't even start in on that name. It's bad enough I need a foot stool to be at eye level with you, I don't need reminded that I need a ladder with Charlie." Scully turned to Ann again. "Now Ann, what was that about Bill not liking you? He hasn't even meet you yet, don't jump to any conclusions," Scully said. "Believe me Dana she isn't. Ann is the exact opposite of Tara and a lot like you, so just from that Bill won't like her. Plus there's also the fact that she'll tell him straight out where to get off." "Good, that means I won't have to do it so often." Scully said as she grabbed the keys from Charlie and unlocked the car. "Now let's get going. I'm tired and my back hurts from that uncomfortable airplane seat. I want to get to the hotel and collapse into my bed." "That sounds like a great idea." Charlie said as he slid into the driver's seat. "Besides we all need our rest. Tomorrow is going to be a very busy day." "Here here," Scully said as she took the front seat. Mulder and Ann took the back. "Let's go Geeves and make it snappy." Charlie made a face at her. "Yes mame, we need to make sure you get a few hours of beauty sleep. Although I personally think you need a few days of it. Ouch!" Charlie said as Ann hit him. "Play nice you two. I'm not in the mood to play referee between the two of you." "Yeah there's going to be enough need for that tomorrow," Mulder said. "Nag, nag, nag." Charlie and Scully said in unison. William Scully Residence Friday, December 26th 9:00 a.m. Bill Scully was quietly sitting on his couch with Mathew in his arms while he looked for something to watch on the television. Mrs. Scully was in the kitchen finishing up the breakfast dishes while Tara was going around the living room making sure that everything was in order. "Tara, honey. Would you just sit down and relax. You're acting like we're getting a visit from the President. It's just Charlie's fiancee. You don't have to go to all this trouble. She's just a normal person like the rest of us." "Sure Bill, of course you would think like that. This is important. The first meeting is very crucial. I just want to make sure that nothing goes wrong. I want Ann to feel welcomed and a part of the family." Bill got up and handed Mathew over to her. "Don't worry about that. I am sure that mom will make sure that she feels anything but uncomfortable or uneasy. Right mom." Bill called out over his shoulders. "What was that Bill?" Margaret Scully asked while she walked into the living room. "I was just telling Tara to relax and not get herself worked up so much. It's not like this Ann is some diplomat or something, just another girl that Charlie's bringing home." Margaret smacked Bill over the head. "Ouch, mom what did you do that for?" "William Scully Jr., you will not talk that way about your brother's future wife. I seem to remember that you acted the same way when we first met Tara and so did your father. It is important that the moment Ann walks through the door that she feels like a member of the family." "And we mean a member of the family that you respect. So don't go and start acting with her like you did with Dana. This girl is very important to Charlie." Tara said as she sat Mathew down on the floor to play. "Let's not start in on Dana right now. I just want to have a nice holiday with my family." "Well, we would be having that with all the family here if you would ever get your head out from your ass." Tara said to him as she went into the kitchen. "Enough of this. I do not want Charlie and Ann to arrive with you two in the middle of a fight. We will deal with Bill and Dana later. Right now let's just concentrate on meeting the new member of our family." Just as Margaret finished speaking the doorbell rang. "Mom, Bill, Tara." Charlie said as he opened the door. "You guys awake yet?" "We've been awake for hours little brother. Just waiting for you to get your butt out of bed and over here." Bill said as he and Margaret greeted Charlie and Ann in the hallway. "Yeah well, some of us actually wanted to sleep in on their shore leave. Seeing that I don't get to that often." Charlie said as he brought Ann's bags in. Tara came up behind Bill with Mathew in her arms. Charlie put his arm around Ann and introduced her to his family. "Mom, Bill, Tara. This is my fiancee Ann Reynolds. Ann this is my mom Margaret, my brother Bill,= his wife Tara, and their son Mathew." "Nice to meet you all." Ann said as she held her hand out to Margaret. "None of that dear." Margaret said as she enveloped Ann in a hug. "You're going to be a Scully now." "Yeah poor thing." Charlie said behind her. "Charles" Margaret and Ann both warned him. "Great, not even married yet and already she and mom are starting on me. I changed my mind. I'm staying single." "Don't even try it bro." Bill said as he hugged Ann. "I like her already, so you're automatically stuck with her. Anyone who can get to you with just one word is perfect." "Yeah, says the man who cringes every time I call him William." Tara says as she hugged Ann. "Mathew," she said as she held him up to Ann. "This isAnn. She's going to be your aunt." "Hello Mathew, you're a handsome little man." Ann said. "Yeah, thank God he didn't take after his dad." Charlie said as he took the bags upstairs to his and Ann's room. "Can I hold him?" Ann asked Tara. "Sure," she gave Mathew over to Ann. "Come on into the living room and sit down. That way when Charlie gets down you will at least be comfortable when the inquisition starts." "Tara be nice. You make it sound like the girl's going on trial." Margaret said as she sat down next to Ann on the couch. "I don't mind. My brother's did the same thing to Charlie at thanksgiving and that was before we were even engaged. As long as you don't take me out an try to get me totally wasted it will be fine." "You're brothers got Charlie drunk?" Tara asked. "Well, they tried, but you know Charlie's low alcohol tolerance." Ann said as she made faces at Mathew. "Hey let's not start in on me quite this early." Charlie said as he came into the room and sat in a chair across from Ann and his mom. "I was hoping to at least be here half an hour before the embarrassing stories started." "Not a chance Charlie. You didn't help matters with me when you first met Tara. Payback time." Bill said as he got up. "I'm going to grab a cup of coffee, you guys want anything?" "I already have the cups ready. The pot should be done so just bring the whole thing in." Margaret said as Bill went into the kitchen. "So Ann," the rest of Margaret's statement was cut off by a knock on the door. "Ah, that must be my surprise." Charlie said as he got up. "What surprise?" Tara asked. "Charles Scully what are you up to?" she asked as she stood to go to the door. "Oh no. You stay here." Charlie sat her back down. "I said this was a surprise. You just have to wait like everyone else." Another knock came on the door. Bill walked in with the coffee and cups. "Is anyone going to get that?" "I was just going to go get it. You sit down and wait lie everyone else." Charlie put Bill down next to Tara. "You guys are going to love this," he said as he walked to the door. Margaret turned to Ann and saw the smile on her face. "You know what he's up to don't you?" "Maybe, but I won't spoil it for you all." Ann said she gave Mathew to Bill. "I think you should hold him. It will make things a little easier when you see Charlie's surprise." "What?" Bill asked as he took Mathew. "You guys ready?" Charlie asked from the hallway. "Yes they are waiting with anticipation Charlie. Bring them in already." Ann answered. "Bring who in?" Margaret asked. "Look who I found just wandering around the airport last night with no place to go." Charlie said as he brought Dana into the living room. "Dana!!" the other three Scullys said in unison. "What a surprise." Margaret said as she got up and hugged her. "I'm so glad you came back." She turned to Ann. "You knew about her coming?" she asked. "That, among with other things." Ann answered cryptically. "Do I even want to know what is lying behind that statement?" Tara asked as she hugged Dana. She saw a shadow standing in the doorway. She looked and recognized it as Mulder. Tara turned to the rest of the group. "I see what you meant about Bill holding Mathew." "What do you mean?" Bill asked. "Might as well get it over with." Charlie said as he walked over to Bill. "Come on in Mulder." "Mulder!!" Bill said with venom in his voice. Mulder slowly walked out from the hallway and into the living room. "Fox, it's so nice to see you." Mrs. Scully said as she hugged him. "I wasn't too thrilled about the idea of you being alone during the holidays." "Thanks, Mrs. Scully." Mulder said as he hugged her back. He made the mistake of looking in Bill's direction and saw the hate in his eyes. Tara came up to him. "Nice to see you again Mr. Mulder." She took his and Scully's coats. Bill stood up. "What the hell is he doing here?" "Drop it Bill." Charlie told him. "I'm not in the mood for a repeat performance of earlier this week, so just keep all comments to yourself." "No I won't this is my home and I won't be told what to and to not say. And as of right now I am saying I don't want him here." Bill said as he put Mathew on the floor. Tara came back into the room. "Your house. Excuse me, but if I am not mistaken I'm in this marriage too so this house is also mine. So be quite." She picks Mathew up and sits down with him in her lap. "I will be told what to do in my own home." Bill said as he started to walk over to Mulder. Charlie stepped in front of him. "Don't start anything Bill. I want to have a nice evening with the whole family. Ann just met you and I was hoping it would be a good first impression but, as of right now I don't think you're doing a very good job." Bill turned to Ann. "I apologize Ann for how I am acting. Unfortunately your visit has been interrupted by this nuisance to the family. But since you're about to become a member of the family you might as well learn of him fast so you know to avoid him." Scully stiffened and started walking to Bill; Mulder grabbed her and stopped her. "Bill," Mulder warned him. "I'm going to say this once and if after that you're still acting the same way I will not do anything to stop your sister or her actions." "Of course you won't. No one can stop Dana. Once she sets her mind to something there's no stopping. I just wish she would set her mind to getting you out of her life." Bill said as he pushed back his brother. Mrs. Scully stepped in front of Scully and Mulder. "William will you grow up and act like an adult. This temper tantrum is getting old really fast." Mulder put his arm on Mrs. Scully. "You don't have to do this Mrs. Scully. This is something between me and Bill and it's going to end right here one way or the other." He stepped up to Bill. "You've had your say on what you think of me and my presence in your sister and your family's lives. Everyone knows it and has no desire to hear you voice it again." Bill tried to say something but Mulder stopped him. "Don't say anything. I'm only going to say this once and you can make your decision then. Now, I am sorry for all that has happened to your family the last few years. None of it is anything that I would wish for someone to go through, but it happened." "Yeah because Dana became your partner," Bill said. "Bill shut up and listen," everyone turned to see Ann's face full of anger. "I've just gotten here, but it sure looks to me like this nuisance," she pointed to Mulder. "As you so put it, is only looked upon that way by you. So be quiet and let Mulder say what he wants." "I can't believe this, she's just met him and already he's got her defending her." Bill said as he looked back at Mulder. "I swear you have some sort of gift, you get my mother, both my sisters, my wife, and now Charlie's fiancee standing up for you. At least that makes up for your lost sister." "That's it." Scully said as she walked between Mulder and her brother. "Bill you will shut the hell up and listen for once or so help me God I will never speak to you ever again. Now shut up and if I hear one more comment out of your mouth you won't be speaking for awhile." She pushed her brother down in the chair. "Now sit there, listen, and try to stay calm. Mathew doesn't need to see you like this and hear the anger in your voice." She moved away from Bill and stepped next to her mother. "Fine," Bill said. "I'm quite, the floor's all yours 'Fox'," Bill said with sarcasm. "First off, I'm sorry everyone that my presence seems to have ruined the happy mood that you all were in." He turned to face Bill. "Now, as I said earlier I am sorry for all your family has gone through. Do you think I wanted any of it? No, your sister and mother are the only real family that I have." "I wonder why," Bill said. Six sets of eyes looked at him and he shut up. "Anyway, I will admit that things didn't start happening until after Scully joined the X-Files. But that is all I am going to admit. Your sister chose this path. She joined the FBI, she accepted the assignment to work with me, and she continued to work with me despite the numerous times she has been able to leave. Her choice, she didn't stay because I forced her or begged her to. She wanted to stay and continue the work. No matter what department or whom she would work with, it would be dangerous. Law enforcement is not a safe line of work. Unfortunately, your sister just happens to be great of her job and does all that she can bring justice. That is why the past events have happened. Sure the exact things that happened came as a result of her work with the X-Files, but it isn't her fault or mine for that matter that the people who have done all this went after us." Bill went to say smoothing but Mulder stopped him again. "Yes Bill us, your sister hasn't been the only one almost killed and don't you sit there and think that through all those times that her life was in danger that I wasn't scared shitless and afraid I'd lose her. Because contrary to popular belief, I am not a sorry sonovabitch. So it is now time for you to get over this whole thing and move on. Things happens, it's part of life you take it and move on." "Easy words to say from a man with no life of his own except when he latches onto my family." Bill said as he got up and walked over in front of Mulder. "I don't care what you say or even if Dana believes it. But it is because of you that I have lost one sister and almost lost the other." Scully stepped away from her mom and went next to Mulder and grabbed his hand. "Bill if you don't shut up right now there is going to be no almost about it. You will lose me and my love forever." "Dana why can't you open your eyes and see that this guy is nothing but trouble for you?" Bill asked. Bill went to grab Scully and Mulder's hands shot straight to his chest to push him away. "Don't try and order her around Bill, she's her own person." "Well, you'd never be able to tell when she's around you. All she does is follow you around and defend you, like her life revolves around you." "Well maybe that's because as far as I am concerned Mulder is my life. My work as his partner in the bureau and our relationship has been the greatest gift I have been given. So, why wouldn't I defend it and do all that I can to keep it? You ever think about that Bill? Maybe Mulder makes me happy." "How can you say that? Because of him we lost Melissa, you were kidnapped, given cancer, and are unable to have children. He ruined all chances for you to have a happy life." "This is the end of this conversation. I am sorry Bill that you feel this way, but you are just going to have to deal with the fact that Mulder is in my life and here to stay." "Not if I have anything to say about it," Bill said. "Well you don't, so you better just get use to the idea because once we're married he becomes a permanent member of the family. Even though he's already been one for years." "What?!" Bill, Tara, and Margaret all asked at the same time. Charlie sat down next to Ann. "Yeah, that was my Christmas surprise to you all. You get to celebrate two engagements for the price of one," he said smiling. Mulder held up Scully's hand to show them all and Mrs. Scully hugged them both. "I'm so happy for you two. It's about time you came to your senses." She let them go and looked over at Mulder. "It took you long enough Fox. I was getting worried that you would never do it and Dana's to stubborn to make the first move." Mulder laughed. "Thanks Mrs. Scully." "Enough of this Mrs. Scully stuff. I only humored you and let you do this past few years, but now it's mom." She hugged him again. "Hey, mom. Quit hogging up the hugs and congratulations." Tara said as she came over. She handed Mathew over to Margaret and hugged Mulder and Scully. "Congratulations you two. I'm very happy for you." She pulled away and looked at Charlie. "You knew about all of this? Charles Scully I will never forgive you for keeping this from me." Charlie looked at her. "Hey the look on all your guys' faces was priceless. I couldn't pass up the opportunity for it." "Excuse me, is everyone done with the congratulations?" Everyone looked around at the sound of Bill's voice. "So, you're going to do it? You're going to make the biggest mistake of your life and make him part of this family forever?" Bill asked as he walked over to Scully. "Bill," Tara warned him. "What? Do you all look at me like that. What did you expect Dana? You know how I feel about Mulder." He got down into her face. "Did you think that by announcing you're going to marry him that I would miraculously change my mind and welcome him with open arms?" Mulder stepped in between Bill and Scully. "No Bill your sister did not think that. In fact she wasn't the one that wanted to tell you in person. I did. This is very important to me and I plan on it being just as special for Scully. So if you're smart, you'll shut up now and at least fake a smile. Also, I don't want you to ever get in your sister's face like you just did. You're not 10 years old anymore and she isn't the little girl you use to bully around." "Don't you presume to try and tell me how to act in my own home with my family. You have no rights here." "You're right. I have no business telling you what to do in your home. But I do have the right to when it involves Scully, who happens to be my family. So I'll tell you again, don't try and over run her ever again." Mulder said to Bill. "All right I think that's enough. The testosterone is making it a bit stuffy in here." Ann said as she walked over to Tara. "Don't you think so Tara?" "Yes I do. I think Mathew needs some fresh air. Come on Mulder. If you're going to be his uncle you might as well be the one who gets to chase him around the yard." Tara said as she and Ann led Mulder out to the back door. End 10/13 No One But You 11/13 DenyTheTruth kelleigh@glasscity.net --------------------- Charlie turned around when he heard the back door shut. "All right, I do believe a family meeting has just been declared. Who's going to go first?" he asked as he sat down on the couch. "Well," Bill began, but Mrs. Scully cut him off. "No Bill you will not be the one to speak. Sit down," she ordered him. She turned to Scully. "You sit down also Dana. All three of you are going to sit there and listen to what I have to say." Mrs. Scully said as she walked over to the mantle. She picked up a picture of the whole family that was taken during their first family vacation. "I remember this trip." She showed them the picture. "Your father was so happy. We were both afraid he would get called to duty and the vacation would be canceled. We had fun that summer." "Mom," Bill interrupted her. "I'm sure this little trip down memory lane is nice. But there are more important things that we need to talk about." "I know that Bill. And don't you dare take that condescending tone with me. You will listen to everything that I have to say and not say a word till I say you can. You understand me? All of you." "Yes mom," all the Scully children said. "Good, now before I was interrupted. This trip was very important to us. Do you all know that this trip is the only reason your father and I stayed married?" "What?" Dana asked. "Yes, we were heading for divorce." She sat the photo back down. "It was tough. Your father gone months on end. Raising the four of you. If it wasn't one thing it was another. I was just so overwhelmed. When your father did finally come home, he was so tired and worn out that all he wanted to do was relax. So there I was the one taking care of everyone. It was just getting to be too much." She sat down next to Charlie. "I told you father that I wanted some time away. I needed to get out of my head for awhile and relax for myself. I wanted to go alone by myself, but your father saw what that would have meant. So he made the vacation for the whole family. It was that down time with all of us together as a family that kept us together. It had been so long since it had really felt like we were a family. That was what I missed and needed. I've always told you that family is the most important thing that you can have and you should cherish it." "When your father died, it like to kill me also. But I was lucky, I knew I had all of you to help me through it. Then when Dana was missing, Melissa's death and everything that snowballed from there. It hasn't really felt like a family between us for years. I know that you all have your lives, Bill you had your own family to worry about. But somehow this family took a back seat. That is why we are here today." "What are you talking about mom?" Bill asked. "We've always been there for you, all you had to do was ask. If it couldn't be me, Charlie or Dana would be there." "But that's it. I shouldn't have to ask. A family is suppose to stay close and be able to realize when another member needs them. We got off that path somewhere. That is why Fox has become so much of a fixture in our lives." "What does Mulder have to do with our family? Aside from killing it." Bill said. "Hush Bill. I told you to let me talk first. Since the moment that Dana was missing, Fox has been there for either her or me. We didn't have to ask him, he just knew when we needed him. I know that it was good therapy for himself, but he did it because he knew what it meant to us. I know that things have happened in the past few years that we wish didn't, but I have to believe that God did them for a reason. That's why I have no ill feelings towards Fox. Nothing was in his control; he's gone through just as much as we have. If not more, because aside from his own troubles, every time something has happened to Dana it affected him too." She turned to Bill. "This engagement isn't just bringing him into our family. He's been a member for years. And it seems that by looking at the behavior of you all. Yes you all, Dana and Charles you two aren't exempt from this either. It seems that Fox is the one that understands the importance of family. Now, I'm going to go out and spend some time with the other half of my family. The half that seems to have their heads on straight. I want you three to stay here and discuss what I've told you and get your acts together." She said as she left the room. All three of the Scully children looked at each other after their mother left the room. Bill got up and walked over to the fireplace. "Well, that was a total waste of time. I think mom may be losing it a little." "Bill," Scully said to him. "Just because Mom spoke the truth doesn't mean that she is 'losing it' as you put it." "Come on Dana. What was all that crap that she was talking about? Us not being there and us not really being a family and that Mulder is more family than we are. What complete bullshit." "Well, you know she does have a point." Charlie said as he stepped up to Bill and looked at the pictures. "I mean, look at this mantle. You have a picture of us all together when we were kids. One of me, one of Dana, one of Melissa, one of mom and dad together, and a picture of you and Tara and Matthew. When was the last time we were all together as a family? Work has kept all three of us away or something else comes up. The only time we get together is if tragedy strikes and then not all of us come. We haven't exactly been a family these last past few years." "Maybe that's how you see it but I don't. We all have our own lives. Families move and grow apart. It doesn't mean that they stop being a family. And it doesn't mean that someone else comes along and takes the place of them. Were the same as we have always been." Bill said as he looked at the photos. "How can you say that Bill?" Scully said as she joined them looking at the pictures. "I mean last time we were all together was my graduation from the academy, and the only reason that happened was that dad basically forced you two into coming and it was miracle that Melissa came. We haven't really been all that close. It's no wonder mom feels closer to Mulder than she does to any of us. Where have we been? I mean hell. I live in the same state as her and Mulder's there for her more than I am. All of us seem to have forgotten the family." Bill turned to look at her with disgust in his eyes. "Well maybe you have, running off to play FBI. But I have been there the best that I could. So I'm not going to stand here and listen to the two of you talk about how some lunatic is a better member of this family than I am." "Careful Bill, that lunatic is going to be marrying our sister." Charlie said with a warning in his voice. "How can I forget that Dana's about to make the biggest mistake in her life and bring the family more trouble?" Bill said as he left the room and went upstairs. Scully and Charlie looked at each other. "She is right you know?" Dana said to him. "Yeah, I do." He said as he sat back down. "We haven't exactly been the poster children for family unity." He looked down at his hands and then ups at Dana. "I swear though I thought I was doing the right thing. Followed in dad's footsteps, worked hard and worked my way up in the ranks to make him and mom proud. I worried so much about making something out of myself for them to talk about, that I forgot that it was just as important for me to be there as it was for me to do good. God, it's a miracle Ann agreed to marry me. If I'm like this with blood, I'm afraid to know how I'll be with her." Scully sat down next to him. "Don't say that about yourself. She said yes because she sees your faults. She knows that you need work in the family department and she's ready to take on the job. I mean look at how she handled Bill. She isn't here a day and already she can shut him up with a few words. She's ready to take us and all our dysfunction on." She gave him a hug. "I mean if anyone should be worried it should be me. You live on the other side of the country. I live right near mom and don't spend much time with her. If that's how I am with her, how am I going to be with Mulder? He has enough of family troubles with his own. He doesn't really need mine added to his plate." "You'll be fine. Mulder knows what he is in for. Besides, he has the added bonus of mom. I'm sure in all that time that they have spent together, that she has prepared him for us. Had to make sure he was good husband material and ready to take everything on." He smiled up at her. They heard Bill slam a door upstairs. "Man, how did we get so far off track? We use to be so close. I know that families grow apart, but we're ridiculous. I mean this is the first family holiday we have all been together in over eight years. And it took Mulder and Ann for it to happen. I wouldn't have come if Ann hadn't told me that she would kick my butt if I announced our engagement in a letter. And the only reason you came back was because of Mulder and to tell us of your engagement." Scully and Charlie sat in silence and looked at the pictures on the mantle. Each thinking about how they were lucky that Mulder and Ann were in their lives. Each thinking that they were taking more in the relationships than they were giving. Backyard of William Scully Residence Same time Maggie walked out onto the back porch and joined Ann and Tara while they watched Mulder play with Mathew in the sandbox. "How'd it go in there?" Tara asked as Maggie sat down. "About as good as could be expected. At least Dana didn't draw out her gun on Bill," Maggie answered her. "She has no need to do that. From what Charlie said, her left hook does enough damage," Ann added to the conversation. Mulder came up to them and handed Mathew over to Tara. "Here you go. He's all yours and you can keep him." He saw down next to Maggie. "That kid has more energy than I ever had. He'd be perfect for getting some of the agents back in D.C. back in shape." Tara laughed. "Yeah he is a little monster. But he's my little monster." She hands Mathew over to Maggie. "So, in all honesty how did it go? Should I be worried about going in and finding blood all over my furniture?" "I hope not, but I can't promise you anything." Maggie answered honestly. "My children are so stubborn and pig headed. Of all the things they could have gotten from their father, it would have to be the one thing that I hated the most." "Maybe we should go in and check on them." Ann said. "No, let them be for a while. They'll come out here looking for all of us after they have soaked up what I have said and come to their senses," Maggie said as she played with Mathew. "Well, we'll be waiting for hell to freeze over before Bill comes to his senses." Tara said. "I love my husband, but once his mind is set in such a way there is no stopping it." She looked over at Mulder. "And unfortunately, you are the one who gets the brute of it all. I'd apologize for him but I know it won't do any good." "Don't worry about it. I know it comes with the territory of being the big brother," Mulder told her. "No this goes beyond a big brother's ego. Bill just sees things in a certain way and you can't change his mind once its set. Believe me I tried." Maggie told them all as she handed Mathew over to Ann. "Well, he'll just have to get over it and move on or he's going to miss the happiest time of his sister's life." Ann said. She turned to Mulder, "now speaking of which. You and Dana wouldn't tell us last night, but how'd you two finally get engaged. I want to know anything and everything and don't spare the details." "Yeah come on. Charlie already told us about how he asked Ann, your turn to spill. Scully family rules." Tara said. Mulder looked embarrassed and uncomfortable. He turned to Maggie and gave her a look that said 'help me'. Maggie laughed. "Don't look at me Fox William Mulder. I am just as curious as everyone else is. For over four years I have been waiting for this. I have kept my mouth shut and stayed out of your and Dana's life the best I could. This is my reward for all that. Now spill it. Mulder was about to speak when Bill came out into the yard. He went to Ann and took Mathew from her. "I'm taking Mathew to the park. I'll be back later," he turned and left. "Okay," Maggie said as she got up. "I think that's the sign that they're done. Doesn't look like anything was accomplished." She turned to the others. "I'm going to go in and see if at least my other two children have come to their senses. Care to join me?" They all got up and walked into the house. Scully and Charlie were still seated on the couch talking quietly between themselves. "No blood. That's better than I expected." Tara said to try and lighten up the room. Scully and Charlie looked up at the group as they entered the room and then back to each other. They nodded in unison and got up to walk to their fiancees. Mulder put his arm around Scully and kissed her on the forehead. "You okay?" he asked. Scully just looked up at him with tears in her eyes. She looked down at the ring on her left finger and then looked up at her brother. Their eyes met for a minute and then Charlie looked at Ann. "I'm sorry," he said to her as he took his engagement ring off of her finger. He looked up at her with an apology in his eyes and then left the house through the back door. All five sets of eyes looked at the door and then everyone turned to Ann who was white as a ghost. Maggie went over to her. "Ann," Ann didn't let her finish before she fell into her arms and began to cry. Maggie looked up at Dana. "What the hell happened after I left?" Dana looked at her mom and then at Mulder. "We just listened to what you said." She left Mulder's embrace and went to pick up two pieces of paper on the living room table. She walked over to Ann. "Here," she handed her the paper. "Charlie wrote down what happened and why." She walked over to Mulder and gave him the other sheet. He looked at her puzzled. "Scully, what's going on?" She looked up at him and without breaking eye contact; she took off her engagement ring and gave it back to him. She reached up and gave him a kiss on the lips. "I'm sorry." She turned and left through the front door. The four remaining occupants in the room just stood in silence, all looking at the letters. Ann was still crying and Mulder was on the verge. Tara walked over to him and guided him to the couch. Maggie did the same with Ann and then they left the two of them alone. Mulder and Ann looked at each other and then began to read their letters. Dear Mulder, Right now I know that you are wondering what just happened. I wish that I could tell you that I knew for sure, but I don't. All that I do know is that my mom was right. For the past few years you have been the one constant in my life. Don't sit there and start to worry that I regret that, because I don't. I have loved every minute that you have been in my life. But what mom said to us made me realize that in all honesty you are my only family. I have a mother, 2 brothers, a sister in law, and a nephew that hardly even know me anymore. And no this isn't your fault. It all lies on me. I've spent so much time concentrating on my career and myself that I took them for granted. My mother hit the nail right on the head when she said that you had more family to her the past few years than we have. You've been there for her without her even having to ask. All I've done is hidden behind my job and my walls of emotions. What type of a person does that make me? I can tell you what type of person that makes me. The kind that shouldn't think about marriage, especially to someone as wonderful as you. If I act and treat my blood family like this, how would I end up treating you? It makes what Bill says the truth. I don't go into things for love; I go into them for the control I have to have. I couldn't have that control in my family, so I began to neglect it and focused all my energy into work and you because you needed me and that need allowed me to feel in control. But the moment we were to wed, it wouldn't be like that. It would be a true 50/50 partnership with no one person in control and from experience I know that I turn my back on those types of situations and turn to others I can control. I don't want to do that to you. You deserve so much more than that. You deserve someone who doesn't throw herself into her work to hide her feelings. You've had enough troubles in your life with your own family and you don't need me to come into it and bring even more. So I'm doing us both a favor and stopping it before any damage can be done. I do realize that after this working with me would be all but impossible. So don't worry when we get back to D.C., I'll talk with Skinner and get transferred somewhere else. Maybe a new place and start can help me get my act together. I am sorry for any pain that this causes you. I know that we've been through a lot these past few years and you deserve some happiness after everything. I just hope that one day you find it and that you can forgive me. Love forever, Scully Mulder looked up from his letter with tears in his eyes. He turned to Ann to see that she was in the same state as he. Maggie and Tara walked back into the room. Mulder got up and handed Maggie the letter. He then grabbed Ann's letter and gave it to Tara. "I'll be outside," Mulder said as he left the room. Ann looked up at the two women and began to cry again. She got up from the couch and ran upstairs. Maggie and Tara looked at each other and returned to the letters in their hands and read them. Maggie was the first to break the silence. "I didn't mean what they thought I said. I just wanted Bill to realize that for Dana, Fox has been her family and that I have no troubles with that. I just wanted Charlie and Dana to see that Ann and Fox weren't the only family that they did have." Tara hugged Maggie. "Don't do this to yourself. You were just trying to open their eyes. They just interrupted it all wrong." Bill walked into the house to find his mom crying and Tara comforting her. "What happened?" he asked as he put Mathew down. "Mom are you okay?" He walked over to her to see. He looked up at Tara, "What's going on?" "Dana called off her engagement to Fox." "Good, about time she came to her senses." "And what about your brother?" Tara asked with a tone of displeasure in her voice. "Are you glad that he called off his engagement to Ann also?" "What are you talking about? They both called off their engagements?" Maggie rose her head from Tara's shoulder. "Yes Bill, Charlie took his ring back from Ann and Dana gave Fox his back. Then they both left. And do you know why?" "No." "Because their older brother had to go and show just how stubborn he really is. When I talked to you three, I just wanted you all to realize that family is more than just one set of blood relatives. I wanted you to realize that Fox has been a member for years and I wanted all three of you to remember that you still had each other and me also. But you couldn't just get past it all and accept Fox. Now Dana feels that you were right and that she has ignored her family. Charlie now feels the same way. He feels that because he wasn't there when dad or Melissa died or when Dana was in the hospital that he has let the family down and that he can't marry Ann and do that to her. They both feel their older brother was right and that he has been the only one to have acted like a real son in this family." Bill was speechless for a few minutes. "Where did they go?" "Which pair?" Tara asked. "Mulder and Ann." "Ann went upstairs and Fox went out to the back yard," Maggie said. "Why? Bill I don't want you starting anything else." "Don't worry I won't. I just wanted to make sure that they were still here." He went to the front door. "You two make sure that they stay here and don't leave till I come back." "Where are you going?" Tara asked him. "To find Dana and Charlie and bring them to their senses," he said as he left. Maggie turned to Tara after the door shut. "I think tonight is going to consist of lots of the infamous Scully stubbornness and arguing." "Time to make everyone's favorite food and be sure that there's a lot of alcohol available?" Tara asked as they headed into the kitchen. "Yes lots of alcohol. Even though it's just the afternoon. I think it is going to be needed when everyone gets under the same roof. Bill had the same look his father always got when he set his mind to something. I have a feeling my two youngest children are about to get their butts whipped into shape and Bill's about to get really get knocked on his. Let's at least make sure Fox and Ann are comfortable this afternoon, so they stay here tonight until everything is better. I think this is going to take more than a few hours to get straightened out." Maggie and Tara set out to get things ready. End 11/13 No One But You 12/13 DenyTheTruth kelleigh@glasscity.net ---------------------- The Park a few streets away from the Scully Residence 10:45 a.m. Charles Scully sat alone on the swings clutching Ann's engagement ring in his right hand. Bill walked up behind him slowly and put his hand on his shoulder. "Whatca' doing out here Charlie Bear?" Bill asked as he sat down next to him. "Not now Bill. I'm not in the mood to deal with a lecture from you. Which one sent you mom or Ann?" "Neither, but I have the feeling both want to talk some sense into you themselves. What in the world were you thinking?" Charlie turned to his brother. "What do you mean what was I thinking? I was thinking that mom's right." "Which part?" "All of it. That I'm never around for the family no matter what happens. All I do is an occasional letter here and there. I have no idea what it really means to be part of a family. If dad was alive he'd have skinned my butt and then let mom have her turn at me. Since he died, I've just moved further and further away from everyone. I mean look at my life. I don't even have a permanent address. I stay with you when I'm in San Diego or at mom's when I'm at Annapolis. The last time I was in the country for more than a few days was almost 7 years ago. That does not exactly make me great marriage material. Ann deserves a lot more than that. She's been a naval kid all her life; she doesn't need to be a navy wife also. She deserves to have a husband who'll be there when she needs and wants him." "Then quit. Just retire and move on to the private sector. You're experience and computer knowledge will get you a job anywhere. That way you can be there for her." "Takes more than just being there. That's what the problem is. I used the navy as an excuse, so I wouldn't have to be around the family. If I quit, I'd just find another reason to not be around. I just can't do the whole family thing. So why should I drag Ann into it and ruin her life?" "Charlie are you listening to yourself?" Bill asked as he got up from the swing and stepped in front of his brother. "You don't want to drag her into it. If I'm not mistaken she is the one who accepted the marriage proposal. Of her own accord. You didn't have to force her into it. She wants to marry you and become part of this family." "What family? We haven't been a family for a long time and she deserves to marry into one.' "Charlie," Bill said exasperated. "I love you, but I don't how much more of this melodramatic bullshit I can take. Would you quit feeling sorry for yourself and get back to my house? You need to go back there, get on your hands and knees and pray that Ann takes your butt back. Because for some reason that girl loves you. No matter what faults you have. So if she can overlook them then you should overlook them too. Don't worry about what the rest of the family thinks. You're stuck with us no matter what." "Like you're one to talk," Charlie said. "What is that suppose to mean?" Bill asked. "Accept for Tara and Mathew, you haven't been there either for the family. You've used work as an excuse too. Hell, you used it before you even joined the navy. Always working any extra time your jobs would let you. You were just lucky enough that Tara came from a normal family and already new what it was like. You didn't have to worry about not being able to give her it because she already had it. Your life was just a new one to add to hers. But Ann's had the same type of family life as she would have if she married me. And I don't want to do that to her. She deserves to have so much more." "Yes she does. Standing here listening to you, I can't understand why in the hell she would want to marry you. This self-pity crap is getting on my nerves. So we aren't the Waltons, big deal. Here's a news flash Charlie, no family is perfect. Everyone has their own troubles. You get over it and move on. And if you don't get your ass in gear you're going to let your chance slip away." He grabbed his brother up from the swings. "Now get back to my house and set things right with Ann." Charlie shrugged his brother's arm off. "Don't try and order me around. I'll go back when I'm damn good and ready to and not a moment too soon," he said as he walked off. Bill stood and watched his brother leave. "Hell, damn it Charlie. You're supposed to be the easy one to talk to. Dana's suppose to be the pig headed one," Bill said as he started off to find his sister. Fishing pier across the base from William Scully residence 11:15 a.m. Scully was sitting at the end of the pier with her feet dangling in the water while she looked out over the water. 'Well Ahab, I wonder what you would think of all that's happened?' Scully thought to herself. 'I know exactly what he'd say. He would have said that none of this would have happened if we all had remembered the importance of our family. Oh well, another disappointment to add to the list. First I joined the FBI, and then I stayed with the X-Files, now I turn my back on my family and run away from Mulder. Can't get more worse than this.' "Dana," Bill said as he walked up behind her. 'I was wrong,' Scully thought. She turned and looked up to find her older brother looking down at her with anger in his eyes. "What in the hell are you doing?" he asked as he sat down next to her. "What do you mean? I'm just sitting out here enjoying the view and quiet." "That's not what I mean and you damn well know it." Scully looked at her brother with a raised eyebrow. "Don't try that look with me. I know that you understand everything and I don't need to explain a thing to you. I want to know why in the world you are sitting here alone and aren't back home with the rest of the family." "Because I don't really feel much like a member of the family and I don't think that I should try and blend in with the rest." "That's bull shit and you know it!" Bill said. "You're not out here because you don't fit in or because you feel like you've let the whole family down. You're out here because you're scared and afraid." Scully looked at her brother and got up. "What in the hell are you talking about. You have no idea what is going on in my mind. You barely even know me anymore and I barely know you." "Yes that's true, but that doesn't mean that we still aren't family. Just because we haven't always been there, doesn't mean that we don't care. I know that you love all of us and we all love you. I mean hell, somewhere along the way you became the lucky human to have Fox Mulder fall in love with you also." "Don't even bring Mulder into this. He has nothing to do with it." Bill stood up and looked his sister in the eye. "He has everything to do with this. I mean correct me if I'm wrong but isn't he the reason you came back here." "Yes in case you forgot it's because of him that I first left." "You didn't leave because of him, you left because of me and what I said about him." "Yes, so why in the world are you standing here and not saying a thing about him? I've never known you to pass an opportunity to bad mouth him." "Because for some strange reason the guy makes you happy. When you first walked into the house I can't remember the last time I saw you that happy. Now, standing here with him back at the house with your engagement ring in his pocket, you look worse off here than you ever were when you had cancer or when Emily died. Now I'm going to tell you the same thing I told Charlie. Get your ass back to my house and talk with Mulder. For some unknown reason the guy is crazy about you and wants to become a part of this family. Although I don't know why, I think we're all off our rockers and everyone should be trying to get away." He put his arm around her. "Come on Dana. You said so yourself. For the past seven years he has been your family. He knows everything about you. You two have been through enough together. Do you really think he would have proposed if he didn't think you were the best thing that happened to him." "That's only because he hasn't had a whole hell of lot of good things happen to him in his life. So of course he's going to think I'm the best thing. But look at me." They started to walk. "I run away from everyone who loves me and I hide myself away. I can't exactly do that in a marriage. What kind of wife would I be to him?" "I don't know, but I can tell you something. He doesn't care. I can also tell you that what you said isn't going to happen. You may not have kept in touch with us through the years, but Mulder has been there. You two are like oxygen to each other. It doesn't matter if you're married to him or not. Either way you're part of his life. Even though I don't care too much for the fact. He makes you happy and he is what you want. And he loves you for the way you are now, not some ideal fantasy of a family woman. Now let's get home and pray that you and Charlie are lucky and that Mulder and Ann forgive you two." They headed for the house. William Scully Residence 12:00 p.m. Maggie was finishing up setting the table when Mulder finally came back in the house. "Hello Fox. You came back just in time. We're almost done with lunch." Mulder looked at the table and then back to Maggie. "Actually Mrs. Scully, I was just going to grab my coat. I'm going to head back to the hotel then see if there's a flight back to D.C I can get on." "Can you wait a few minutes for me to get my things?" Ann asked as she came down the stairs. "I want to get a flight to Florida and get back to my family." "Nonsense the both of you are staying right here," Maggie said. "And I told you Fox to stop calling me Mrs. Scully. It's mom now." "That's nice of you Mrs. Scully but," Mulder said. "Don't even try it Mulder," Tara said as she brought out the beer. "Once she has her mind set on something there is no changing it." She turned to look at Mulder and Ann. "And as for you two leaving here. That isn't happening either. There is a bad storm coming this way. Plus it's almost New Years and I want the whole family here." "I can understand that, but I'm not family." Ann tried to explain. "By law you aren't yet. But I'm not going to wait until the wedding to get to know you. The same goes for you Fox. You're already part of the family, we don't need a piece of paper." Mrs. Scully said as she went into the kitchen. "No," Mulder said softly so only Ann could hear. "But it would help matters if there were fiancees here." Ann looked up at him. "You know them more than I do. Can we talk them out of this? I don't think I can stand to be in the same room as Charlie. I'll just start crying and begging him to change his mind." "Nope, we're stuck here. At least for lunch. We'll head out after though. I don't think I can stand to be near Scully that long before I'll do the same thing." Tara came back in the room. "You two sit down. We aren't going to wait for the others to come. They can just eat later when they get back." She said as she went to get Mathew. Mulder and Ann sat down at one end of the table. "Maggie do you need any help?" Ann asked. Maggie came back in and sat down at he head of the table with Ann and Mulder on each of her sides. "No, we're all done. Tara you want me to handle Mathew?" "No, I got him," Tara said as she sat down next to Ann. "I put beer out but if you want something else just let me know. We have everything in the kitchen." "Beer's fine." Mulder said as he took a drink. Just then the front door opened and all three Scully children came in. Everyone at the table looked up to see them enter the room. "Just in time," Maggie said. "We were going to start without you." "We got a little side tracked," Bill said as he sat down at the other end of the table. Charlie sat on Bill's right next to Tara while Dana sat on Bill's left. Scully looked to Mulder and saw that he was staring at her. When he saw that she was looking at him he turned his attention to Maggie. "So how was Christmas here?" he asked. Scully got up from the table and went into the kitchen. She came back a few minutes later with two glasses and a bottle of Absolute Vodka. "You know Dana the Vermouth is in the cabinet behind you, there are also olives and lemons in the fridge." Tara said as she fed Mathew. "I know, I'm saving the Vermouth for when me and Charlie have finished off the Vodka." Scully said as she handed Charlie a glass filled to the rim and filled the other one up for herself. She sniffed her glass and then drank it all in one gulp. Charlie looked up at Ann to see that she was looking at anyone but him and he followed suit as his sister. He then went and filled his glass up again. "Bill I'll buy you another one tomorrow." Maggie looked at her children at one end of the table and then at Mulder and Ann. 'This is going to be a long day, I think I may need something stronger than beer to get through this' she thought to herself. End 12/13 No One But You 13/13 DenyTheTruth kelleigh@glasscity.net ---------------------- As the meal went on in silence, Scully and Charlie continued to drink the Vodka. Mulder and Ann had drunk two beers apiece while the rest of the family had only one. When everyone was done Mulder and Ann took Mathew into the living room while the others cleared the table. Charlie drank the last of the Vodka and then turned to his brother. "Bill, do you have any whiskey?" "Charlie I think you've had enough," Maggie said to her son. "What you need right now is to go into the living room and set things right with Ann." She turned to Dana, "and you need to do the same thing with Fox." "What for? I already know I messed up and Dana knows it too. Hell neither one of them would look at us during lunch. I'm surprised that they're still here." Charlie yelled as he searched for something to drink. Scully took two beers and walked into the living room. She went over to Mulder and Ann and gave them each a beer. She then went over to Mathew. "Hey Mathew. You want to give Aunt Dana a hug?" Mathew put his arms around Dana and she hugged him. "Now don't you drive these two crazy, they got enough to deal with between me and your Uncle Charlie." Scully said as she got up. She looked at Mulder and Ann and then went out the back door. Bill came into the living room and sat down next to his son. "All right you two. The ball is in your court. I brought them back home and made them realized the mistakes they made. You two now have to decide if you are going to forgive them for it and move on. Or if you're going to let them continue to wallow in self pity. But I must warn you, a drunk Charlie always ends up in jail. And the last time Dana was drunk she spent the whole night in the bathroom and then didn't wake up for two days. In all honest I don't want either one of those scenarios to come but if they continue onlike this it will." He got up ad walked in front of Mulder and Ann. "Charlie loves you very much. I can tell that you're good for him. Don't judge him just by this bought with his stubbornness." He then turned to Mulder. "You make her happy. I won't stand here and lie and say that I understand why or that I agree with it. But you are what she wants. She just doesn't want to disappoint you and have you hate her. But I'll tell you right now, last year was lousy for her and I don't want this one to be even worse. So at least go and tell her that you don't hate her. Even if you can't forgive. But if you do that you are a sorry sonovabitch because she is the best thing that could ever happen to anyone and you're the lucky one who she fell in love with. And everyone else here seems to think that you love her just as much, so you better not prove them wrong." "I do love her," Mulder said to him. "Then prove it by going to her and helping her stop feeling like a failure." Bill finished speaking and then left the room with Mathew. Mulder and Ann looked at each other. "Have you ever dealt with one of them drunk?" Ann asked. "No, arguing with a sober Scully is enough of a challenge. I don't need alcohol added to the equation," Mulder said as he got up. "You going to be ok?" Ann got up. "Yeah, worse comes to worse I'll just slug Charlie and blame the black out on the alcohol. Hopefully it won't result to that to talk some sense into him. You're the one who has his job cut out. She has no troubles knocking her brothers out or shooting you for that matter." Ann said with a smile. "Don't say that, it might give her ideas." Mulder said as he left he room in search of Scully. He walked into the kitchen and found Mrs. Scully sitting at the table. "Bill and Tara are outside with Mathew. He ordered Dana up stairs to the other guestroom. She took the bottle of Vermouth with her." Mulder turned to go upstairs but she stopped him. "Fox, before you go up there. I'd like to have a word with you." "Sure Mrs. Scully," Mulder said as he sat down. "I am going to have to work hard to break you of that habit I can see that already. Anyway, before you go up there and demand to know what's going on, I want to explain something to you. I read Dana's letter to you. I know that I shouldn't have, but I did. I just want to emphasize this point; it has nothing to do with you or her love for you. As far as Dana sees it, it is all about her. She feels that she isn't what you need. With all that you've gone through with your own family, Dana just feels that you deserve the exact opposite. And for some reason Dana feels that she can't give that to you. Ever since she was a child she always took it upon herself to be the one to take care of everyone." She smiled and looked at Mulder. "Of course for the past seven years you've been the one mainly on the receiving end of it. And she's loved every minute of it. Just remember, she's isn't use to not being able to take care of someone and she now thinks that she can't do that for you." She got up from the table and kissed Mulder on the forehead. "Now get up there before she drinks herself into another two day nap." Mulder got up from the table and went up stairs. Scully was sitting in a chair looking out the window of the bedroom when Mulder entered the room. He noticed the half-empty bottle of Vermouth and decided it was time to get this over with. He quietly shut the door and began to walk over to her. Before he could reach out to her she already started to talk. "You know it's really ironic. In all the years of us working together, I always thought of you as being the one from the fucked up family. I know that isn't really nice to say, but it's how I felt. I just had to take a look at your family and I just automatically thought mine was better. We didn't have any divorce, or alcoholism, or affairs, or government conspiracies looming over us. Guess that really doesn't mean a thing in the grand scheme of things. We may not have had those troubles, but we still weren't that great, or at least I wasn't." She finished the last of the drink in her glass and then handed Mulder the glass and bottle of alcohol. "I've had enough, I already feel my insides rising up my throat." Mulder took them from her hands and set them on the table. He then went and sat on his knees in front of Scully's chair and looked at her. "No one's perfect Scully," he reached out to touch her but she avoided his hand. "You of all people should know that." "I know that Mulder. After all I've seen, I know a hell of a lot more than that. It doesn't stop the way I feel in here." She pointed to her heart, Mulder continued to look at her but she wouldn't meet his eyes. She stared out the window over his head. "I use to think that I was good for you. That I could help you get over your lousy childhood and family history and help you move on. After that first night when we stayed up in your hotel room and you told me what happened to Sam and your family. I vowed that night to make sure that you never felt that pain again. Even then, something in me just knew that you were what I wanted. I wanted to help make new memories for you and let you know that there are good things in life and that families aren't all that bad." She looked down to him. "Seems kind of a stupid thing for someone who wouldn't know the true meaning of family if it came up and hit her in the face to want to be the one to teach you about it, huh?' Mulder grabbed her hands brought them to her lips. "You're wrong Scully. There's nothing stupid about wanting to make me feel good. Nothing at all." "Yeah some job I do of it. I shoot down your theories, constantly annoy you for the facts, and don't take your leaps of faith and logic. I just rain sunshine into your life. If I'm like that with our work relationship, I dread to think what I'd be like in a personal one. Who am I to want to be the one to be your family? I can't even give you kids, and they are sort of a requirement in the family department. God, no wonder we danced around this whole thing for so long. Somewhere in the back of our minds we knew it would be wrong." She looked him in the eyes. "We just let ourselves get caught up in the moment for a few days, the loneliness of the holidays and all." Mulder went to say something, but Scully abruptly got up and ran to the bathroom. He followed her in and pulled her away from her face while her lunch made a reappearance. When she was finally done, he took a washcloth and wiped her face down. "Better?" "God, know I remember why I don't drink. Food is never good the second time around. But at least I'm going to get a nice long nap now. I should at least get a full day's sleep from all I drank." Scully said as she tried to get up. "Here we go," Mulder said as he picked her up and carried her to bed. Scully quickly buried her head in the pillows and closed her eyes. She felt the mattress shift as Mulder joined her and then she felt his arms around her and bringing her up to rest on his chest. "Then I guess we better get this all out in the open and straightened out before you fall asleep." He stroked her hair and Scully sighed in contentment. "First thing, I don't care about the fact that you can't have children. Sure, somewhere in me there's a part that would just love to see a short, brown hair, blue eyed girl with your intelligence and my sense of humor, but that's isn't going to stop me from loving you. Besides, whoever said that children is what makes a family? Mine had two and I wouldn't say we were one." He kissed the top of her head. "And also, I'm a little selfish. I just got you; I'm not ready to share you with someone else even if it would be our child. Secondly, I love you the way you are, with the exception of a few things. We are going to have to work on you letting me in when you are scared or hurt, but then I have the same trouble. Neither one of us is coming into this thing with the Good Housingkeeping seal of approval on healthy psyches. But together we will work on them. I also don't care that you don't paint the Norman Rockwell picture of a perfect person. If you did, I'd have to put you on a pedestal and then I could never touch you. You are my family Scully. You've been it for a long time. My life stopped being empty the day you walked into my office and the day you woke up from the coma you gave me back my heart. I love you for everything that you not for some stuupid picture of a perfect woman. I just love you, even when you are shooting down my theories or tearing my heart apart like you did earlier today. That's our first rule. Right here and now, don't you ever leave me again. You stay and we talk things out. But from here on out," he took the engagement ring from his pocket and put it back on her left hand. "This stays on your finger and is to never come off. I don't care if you ruin dozens of gloves during an autopsy, that ring stays where it belongs." Scully's hand clenched his and she kissed his chest where her head was. "I love you with my heart and all that I am." She said as she yawned. "Good, nice to see that we agree on that fact. We're stuck with one another from now on." He moved down to lay with her and brought the covers over them. He looked into her sleepy eyes. "Close our eyes and sleep. I'll be here when you wake up." Scully closed her eyes and moved closer to Mulder before she fell asleep. Scully residence 5:00 p.m. Margaret Scully walked upstairs and looked into the room her son was staying in. There she found Ann sitting in a chair next to the bed with Charlie fast asleep. Ann looked up at her. "Is he always so sorrowful after he drinks?" "Family trait, they get full of remorse or ready for a fight." She walked over to Ann and touched her shoulder. "You two ok?" Ann took Maggie's hand and squeezed it. "Yes, he did all the talking and apologized. How can you not forgive him when he's lying there trying to say he was such a jerk and not end up with his insides on the bedroom floor? I thought I'd let him off the hook easily this time. But next time he won't get so lucky." Maggie laughed. "You're going to be fine. I'm going to go check on Fox and Dana." She left the room and walked over to the other guestroom. She opened the door and looked in. She smiled when she saw Mulder lying in bed with a protective hold over Scully. Her smiled widened when she saw the glitter of Dana's ring on her left hand. Maggie closed the door and headed downstairs. Tara was in the kitchen working on dinner. "How are they?" Maggie went to the fridge and got out the vegetables to make the salad. "They're all good. Charlie is sleeping and Ann's watching over him." "They make up?" "Yes, remorseful Scully made his appearance this year." "Well that explains the quick fix. I could never stay made at Bill when he hit the remorse stage," Tara said as she placed the chicken in the oven. Bill walked in. "That's why I get drunk when I know I've messed up. Dana's the only one in the family that gets the fighting spirit after drinking all the rest of us get remorse." He kissed Tara and his mom. "When will dinner be done?" "About an hour," Tara answered. "I'll make Mathew from his nap in 30 minutes then. So Charlie and Ann are fine now?" "Yes, except for the headache that he'll have when he wakes up." Maggie answered as she finished the salad. "Dana and Mulder?" he asked with genuine concern. "I believe fine. They're both asleep upstairs and she's wearing her engagement ring again." Maggie sat down at the counter and looked at her son. "So, you want to tell me what you said to them all?" "Why?" "So I can remember it for the next time you're an ass. I can remind you of the nice thing you did. Also so I can remind you at those times when you start in on how you can't believe that Dana married Fox, that you're the reason that they talked and straightened everything out." "Don't remind me. I'm still trying to come to terms with their engagement. Don't start with the wedding and marriage. I don't think I'm up for that yet." Tara came up behind Bill and hugged him. "Baby steps, that all we can ask for and more than I could have hoped for." William Scully residence December 31st 11:30 p.m. The whole family was gathered in the living room watching Dick Clark get ready to celebrate another new year. Mathew was upstairs asleep; Bill and Tara were sitting on the couch. Charlie and Ann were on the loveseat while Mulder and Scully sat on the floor holding each other. Mrs. Scully was in the kitchen getting ready for the celebration. "So we are about to get a new year. How long into this thing do I have to wait before you four get hitched and I have to wear one of the god awful bridesmaid gowns that everyone seems to chose?" Tara asked as she hugged Bill. "Charlie and I are hoping for June. I know it's a cliche, but I've always wanted it in June. Charlie already got clearance to be off for the whole month. I figure have it in the beginning of the month, that way we have that much longer for the honeymoon." Ann said. "We haven't yet decided where we are going to have it. Since the Scully's are on both coasts and so are the Reynolds. Although wherever we have it we'll probably have to have it via satellite so everyone can attend it in some way," Charlie said with a laugh. "Well you better decide soon. You want to make sure you can get he church, June is a very busy time for weddings." Maggie said as she came into the living room and sat the glasses and champagne on the table. "I was hoping for D.C. actually. That way you and Dana don't have to travel so far and so we can also look around and see if that's where we want to settle," Charlie said. "What do you mean?" Maggie asked. "Ann and I have discussed it and after the wedding I won't be returning back to sea. I am going to request for a posting at the Pentagon or maybe teach at the Academy. That way we can see more of each other and I'll be close to mom and Dana." "That would be wonderful," Maggie said as she sat down. "I hope it can happen. I have already checked with school's in the area and there are positions available for kindergarten teachers." Ann said as she turned to Mulder and Scully. "So what about you two? Thought about anything for the wedding?" "Yeah, quick letter to Skinner saying we're getting married and lots of prayers that he doesn't stop us at the Justice of the Peace," Mulder said. Scully hit him in the stomach and then with a pillow. "If he keeps that up there won't be a wedding, you'll all be attending his funeral." She turned back to her family. "We haven't thought of anything yet. Right now we're just trying to figure out what we are going to do about work." "Oh that's right. I don't think the Justice Department would be too thrilled having partners become involved let alone get married." Charlie said. "Yeah, when we get back after the holidays we're going to talk with our AD about our options." Mulder said as he hugged Scully when he felt her stiffen. "So, if they don't take it too well. What do you think you'll do?" Tara asked. "I'll just ask for a transfer and we'll go from there. But hopefully we will be able to think of something so I don't have to leave the X-Files." Scully answered. "Well, I hope you guys can. I don't really see anyone else putting with what all Charlie has told me Mulder can do. If you're not there Dana, they may end up arresting his partner for killing him," Ann said and winked at Mulder. "I think I should take that as an offense," Mulder said with mock hurt. "We'll see," Scully said. "After we have work figured out then we will start with wedding and living arrangements. Till then we'll just play everything by ear." "Just don't take too long," Charlie said. "I don't dad would be too happy if you two lived in sin for too long a time." "Look who's talking," Bill said as he threw a pillow at his brother. He looked up at his sister and saw the happiness in her eyes. "Just make sure you let us all know so we can be at the wedding." "Well, it's almost midnight. Let's get ready." Maggie said as handed everyone a glass. Bill opened up the bottle and filled everyone's glass. Maggie stood up. "Everyone ready?" Everyone nodded their heads. "What's going on?" Mulder whispered in Scully's ear. "Family tradition. Before midnight everyone in the family takes a glass and stands making a toast to something they cherish." "Okay, I'll start off," she raised her glass and so did everyone else. "Here's to," Bill interrupted his mom. "Actually mom, I'd like to start this year." "Sure." Maggie sat down. Bill stood up and raised his glass. "To family, both old and new." He turned to Mulder. "May we continue to be in each others lives and in each others' hearts." Maggie stood and raised her glass, "to health. May the new year bring us just the same if not better than this year." Tara stood next with her glass raised, "to love. May we all give all that we can and receive just the same." Dana was the next one. "To faith. May we not lose it in ourselves and in those we love." Mulder stood up next to Scully and raised his glass. "To trust, may we always have it," he looked at Scully, "and remember that there are others here for us." Ann stood up, "to forgiveness." She looked at Charlie. "May we remember that there is nothing wrong in asking for it or receiving it." Charlie stood, "to life." He turned to Dana. "May 'we' all live it to the fullest and not let another day pass by." They all put their glasses together and then drank. Dick Clark's voice came out over the TV.
